1 Appendix to Chapter 1 Release 3 Introduction to AutoCAD Architectural Desktop Release 3 Enhancements to AutoCAD Architectural Desktop Release 3 include changes in the content of the menu bar, toolbars, and the dialog boxes associated with various commands. Toolbars have been expanded to include some of the commands accessed from the menu bar of Release 2. The format of the shortcut menu now follows the same organization as the headings of menu bar. The format of the dialog boxes for Architectural Desktop styles have been changed to the Microsoft Windows Explorer style. The Style Manager may be used sort and display the style properties of the object. Release 3 includes the following new objects: chases, ducts and floor openings, curtain walls, curtain wall units, window assemblies, roof slabs, slabs, and structural members, AEC Polygons. These objects may be displayed in 2D or 3D. Additional display representations and display configurations have been integrated into the following metric and imperial templates: Building Model, Massing, Plot Floor Plan, Plot Reflected, Plot Sections, Plot Small Project, and Space Planning. Starting Architectural Desktop Release 3 The Startup dialog box shown in Figure 1.4 of the text has been replaced with the following Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.0 Today dialog box as shown below. The Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.0 Today dialog box includes the Open Drawings, Create Drawings, and Symbol Libraries tabs. The Open Drawings tab allows you to display existing drawings according to date, file name, location, or the most recently used file. If you move the pointer over the file name the path to the file and a preview will be displayed shown in Figure 1.1. The Create Drawings tab includes a fly out, which allows you to begin a new drawing using the Start from Scratch, Template, or Wizard options. All new Architectural Desktop drawings should begin with the Aec Arch (Imperial) or Aec Arch (Metric) templates or one of the new AEC templates. These templates are displayed alphabetically in the template list of the Create Drawings tab of the Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.0 Today dialog box. Figure 1.1 Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.0 Today dialog box.
2 The default name of a drawing using the template is Drawing1. The drawing should be saved to your student directory. To save a drawing with specific name, choose SaveAs from the File menu and insert a new drawing name in the file name edit box, as shown in Figure 1.2. Figure 1.2 Save Drawing As dialog box Release 3 Screen Layout The screen layout of Release 3.0 has not change from Release 2. The content of the menu bar has been revised to reorder some of the commands and include new Release 3 commands. The content of the first level of the Release 3.0 menu bar is shown in Figures 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6. Figure 1.3 Concept menu options on the menu bar

Figure 1.7 Toolbars of Release 3 Templates Additional templates have been added to accommodate different scales, screening of the hatch patterns and shading of walls without regard to components. Other new templates include only part of the layouts of the Aec Arch (Imperial) or Aec Arch (Metric) templates. The templates include styles for various objects used such as doors, windows, stairs, walls, curtain walls, curtain wall units, railings, roof slabs, spaces, structural members. Therefore when a drawing is begun without the use of a template these style must be imported to the drawing and layouts created with the appropriate viewport and display configurations. The layouts for metric and imperial templates are similar, the description of the imperial templates follows: Release 3 Templates Layout Purpose AEC Arch (Imperial) Layout tabs for mass modeling, space planning, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, sections, elevations, and plotting AEC (Imperial)Building Model Layout tabs for creating AEC (Imperial)Massing Layouts for designing mass elements and groups AEC (Imperial) Plot Floor Plan Layouts for plotting large floor plans with screened poche, poche, and design development AEC (Imperial) Plot Reflected Template Layouts for plotting reflected ceiling plans AEC (Imperial)Plot Sections Layout for plotting sections and elevations AEC (Imperial) Plot Small Project Layouts for plotting floor plans, sections and reflected ceiling plans AEC (Imperial)Space Planning Layouts for space planning Table 1.2- Release 3 Templates
6 Architectural Desktop Layouts The layouts of Release 2 are included in the Aec Arch (Imperial) template of Release 3. The All layout of Release 2 has been replaced by the Template Overview layout. The Template Overview layout includes graphics and text in paper space, which describe the scale, viewport settings, and content of each layout tab. A Template Overview layout is included in all the AEC templates. The Space layout has been moved to the left of the Model-Group layout. The saved views, which were used to display viewports in Release 2, have been deleted from the template. The properties of the layouts used in each Architectural Desktop template are shown in Table 1.3. All layouts designed for plotting include a title block, which includes attribute data. 8 Display Control Display control in Architectural Desktop consists of three levels: display representations, display representation sets, and display configurations. These levels may be viewed and edited in the new Display Manager dialog box. The AECDISPLAYMANAGER command opens the Display Manager dialog box. Access the AECDISPLAYMANAGER command as follows: Menu bar Desktop>Display Manager Command prompt AECDISPLAYMANAGER Toolbar Select Display Manager from the Aec Setup toolbar shown in Figure 1.8 Shortcut Right click over the graphics screen then select Desktop>Display Manager Table 1.4 Command access table for Display Manager Figure 1.8 Display Manager command of the AEC Setup toolbar The Display Manager may also be opened using the following Release 2 commands: AECDISPLAYCONFIGATTACH, AECDISPLAYCONFIGDEFINE, AECDISPALYSETDEFINE. The Display Manager dialog box has combined all three levels of the display system into one dialog box. When the Display Manager dialog box opens it consists of three folders: Configurations, Sets and Representations by Object. Each of these folders may be opened to view the available options within the folder. Selecting the plus sign of the Configurations folder within the tree in the left pane will open the folder and display the available configurations. In the figure below the Work configuration is shown bold since it is the configuration applied to the current viewport.
9 Figure 1.9 Configurations folder of the Display Manager The settings of the Work configuration may be viewed by selecting the (+) to the left of the Work configuration option of the display tree. When the Work configuration is expanded the right pane opens and displays the view direction controls that apply to the display configuration and the sub sets of the Work configuration as shown below.
10 Figure 1.10 Work Configuration shown in the Display Manager The Work_Plan is the current display set, which applies to this configuration. Selecting the Work_Plan set will open the Display Control matrix as shown in Figure This pane allows you to view the objects in the left column and the top row list the display representations for each object listed. The display representation of the object defines how the object will be drawn or displayed. If the box for the object is checked for that display representation then the object is included in the display representation. Notice some objects are not checked since that display representation is not available for that object.

The display representation of a set may be viewed in the Display Manager by expanding the Sets folder and selecting the display set as shown below. The current display set Work_Plan is shown bold since it is active for the current viewport.
13 Figure 1.12 Display Representations of the Work_Plan display set Display Representations A display representation is defined for each AEC object. Display representations define the various components of an object will be displayed. The Display Manager may also be used to view the display representations of each object. If you expand the Representations by Object folder in the left pane of the Display Manager then select an object the sets for the object will be shown in the right pane of the Display Manger. The sets of the Door object are shown in Figure The scroll bar has been selected to scroll to the right the display of the Work_Plan display set in Figure 1.13.
14 Figure 1.13 Display Representations defined for the Door object in the Work_Plan set The Object Viewer may be used to preview the graphics associated with each display representation within the Display Manager. If you select an object in the left pane and a display representation in the right pane, then select the Object Viewer button, the Object Viewer window will open allowing you to preview the graphics associated with a display representation. Shown below is an example of the Object Viewer used to display the graphics for the door in the Plan display representation. This representation does include the door leaf and jamb.
