CMS NCS CALIBRATED MATCHING STANDARDS 1950 ORIGINAL
CALIBRATED MATCHING STANDARDS The NCS Calibrated Matching Standards (CMS) are intended to meet the highest quality demands from professional NCS users. It is specially developed to allow colour matching and control with the smallest available tolerances. It is well suited for quality control work based on ISO 9001 standards. Each sample is individually checked against the unique NCS Primary Standard. The small reproduction differences allowed are stated for each sample. The NCS Calibrated Matching Standard samples should be stored dark, at a temperature of maximum C and in humidity between %. The colour samples will then be valid for two years from controlling date.
MEASUREMENT VALUES The measurement values are delivered with the NCS Calibrated Matching Standards 1950 Original on a CD or as a separate document. No: The sample/box number of the colour sample. Together with the NCS notation this number creates a unique identification for each and every NCS CMS sample measured. Date: Date of measurement, the colour sample is valid two years from this date. NCS: The NCS Colour Notation (nominal value). S C Φ: Colour co-ordinates. The s, c and Φ values calculated from measurement according to SS with one decimal. S = Blackness, C= Chromaticness and Φ = Hue. CIELAB: Co-ordinates and differences. CIELAB (L*, a*, b*, C* and h) co-ordinates are calculated for CIE Standard Daylight (D65) according to CIE publ. 15:2004. The CIE 10 degree standard observer is used. ΔL*, ΔC* and ΔH* is the difference between the CIELAB coordinates of the sample and the NCS Primary Standard. ΔE CMC(1:1) values are calculated according to CMC(1:1) in accordance with BS 6923:1988.
SPECIFICATION FOR CMS Max. deviations: In final production ΔE CMC(1:1) < 0.5 from NCS Primary Standard. 95% ΔE CMC(1:1) < 0.5 in F11 and in A Gloss: (small deviations might occur) Max Failure Rate: 0 % NCS Colour guarantees that in addition to these tolerances visual inspections are performed to check the production in order to avoid problems coming from the limitations of instrumental measurements. If an NCS Primary Standard is close to the NCS nominal tolerance border, and the checked NCS Calibrated Matching Standard might fall just outside the primary NCS tolerance area NCS Colour will make a visual inspection before approval. MEASUREMENT CONDITIONS FOR INSTRU- MENTAL CONTROL OF NCS SAMPLES Measurement Conditions for Instrumental Control of NCS Samples The colour measurements and analyses have been carefully made, checked and certified by the authorized NCS Quality Centre according to the Swedish Standard SS in a spectrophotometer. The conditions for visual assessment and instrumental measurement of the colour samples are made according to SS Measurement values are evaluated according to CIE (publ. 15:2004). Measurement geometry: diffuse illumination, specular component included (di:8 ). UV component included. Readings every 10 nm from 360 to 750 nm. NCS S 0500-N (white) is used as a sample backing in reflectance measurement. Measurement is traceable to the NCS reference instrument, Zeiss DMC 26. The gloss measurements are made in accordance with ISO 2813, 60. The ΔECMC (1:1) are evaluated according to BS 6923:1988. Light sources used in the control are D65, A and F11. Visual controls are made in the same light sources.
NCS QUALITY MANAGEMENT - SPEC. To ensure a high quality and problem-free colour communication process, NCS Colour in Stockholm set up the NCS Quality Centre, which guarantees and documents its work in order to provide accurate colour products to meet various professional needs. NCS Quality Management has world leading quality and ensures that the NCS samples are produced with EU-approved pigments and according to the NCS Primary Standard. NCS Quality Management forms the base for the Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish and South African National Standards. It is also the platform for our ISO 9001, No , Quality Assurance System. REPRODUCTION TOLERANCES The following specification for reproduction tolerances guarantees that no visually unacceptable differences should exist in the reproduction of the NCS Colour Tools. The visual checks in the production control can override the measurement result. NCS REPRODUCTION TOLERANCES* NCS Quality Level ΔE Fraction ΔE Fraction ΔE Fraction NCS CMS % NCS QL % % NCS QL % % % * Against the Primary Standard in ΔE CMC (1:1) units
NCS QUALITY QUALITY CATEGORIES QUALITY CONTROL PRODUCTS STANDARD NCS PRIMARY STD Produced to fall within the NCS nominal tolerance areas. NCS QUALITY LEVEL II (QL 2) Statistic control on samples from the production. Stripe coated material used in Index, Cascade, fan decks and colour ships/stripe cards. System overview for colour selection.
DEFINITIONS NCS Nominal Value The theoretical value, established by the perceptive (psychometrical) NCS Colour Research. The values are scientifically and colorimetrically specified in the CIE standard system by the NCS conversion software, based on the NCS original reference instrument Zeiss DMC 26. NCS Primary Standard NCS Colour s unique deepfrozen original standard and measurement values representing (with tolerances as specified below) the NCS Nominal Values. NCS Calibrated Matching Standards Colour Standard that customers can purchase from NCS Colour representing (with tolerances as specified in this document) the NCS Primary Standard. NCS Colour Tools Commercial colour products produced by NCS Colour representing (with tolerances as specified in this document) the NCS Primary Standard.
