9 Name: _ There are three purposes or reasons a book is written. They are to persuade, inform, or entertain (PIE). Read these passages and identify the purpose. The gorillas took the lady they caught in the cage along with their family while they found food to eat. One gorilla offered the lady a grub to eat. She yelled, Help me! I m trapped in a cage! One gorilla said, I don t think she likes to eat grubs. O persuade O inform O entertain There are two kinds of gorillas. One is the eastern gorilla and the other is the western gorilla. The gorilla s diet is mainly made up of plants and insects. They are found in Africa. O persuade O inform O entertain Animals cannot speak for themselves. So people need to speak for them. Every year animals go extinct. People need to take responsibility for them by making sure we stay out of places where they live so they can find food, shelter, and live happily. Together, people can work to keep more animals from going extinct by creating laws to protect them. O persuade O inform O entertain 9
