5 How did this pack come about? I realized my oldest was seriously lacking in the area of creative writing skills. He could put together a sentence and a short paragraph, but anything more he really struggled. So, I got to work on creating a program that pushed his creativity as well as his skills for writing in each of the four styles. How to use this pack: Each month, have students follow the theme (outlined on the following page) Present the weekly writing prompt at the beginning of the week. Allow students to work through the writing prompt during the week. They can make as many revisions as they like to their assignment. Assignments can be due on Friday of the same week or Monday the following week, to allow for revisions over the weekend. Recommendations: I recommend keeping weekly assignments in a file folder or notebook. This will not only be good for record keeping, but also for you and the student to look back at how much they have improved over the year. On the following page you will find the monthly themes and weekly assignments outlined. You are free to move them around and adjust them if you wish, but I did these in a specific order, to work on building the story and writing styles gradually. ~ Annette

Can be from their phone, a magazine or their home. October - Choose a painting for this month. November - Choose an animal for this month. December - This month is all about Christmas! January - Your pet or a pet February - Love March - Shamrocks (you may want to have them choose a picture for this one) April - Starting a Short Story May - Mothers June Fathers July - Firecrackers/Fireworks

30 December, Week 2 - Narrative Tell me the story behind the present. Or create a story around the present.

31 December, Week 3 - Expository Give me 5 little known facts about Christmas.

32 December, Week 4 - Persuasive Take your 5 facts and convince me why this present is something I need to buy or have.

35 January, Week 2 - Narrative Create or tell a story about your pet.

38 January, Week 5 Combine all 4 essays from this month and create one seamless story. You may have to do some rewriting.

54 April, Week 5 - Finish your short story Combine all 4 weeks of writing in to one complete, short story. Add to it if you need, so it has a beginning, middle and end.
