2 Thousands of people fellow officers, surviving family members and other loved ones will gather in Washington, DC, this May to honor the law enforcement community and remember those officers who made the ultimate sacrifice last year and in years prior. The official dates of National Police Week 2018 are May In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. The 30th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, May 13, will be held on the National Mall between 4th and 7th Streets, about four blocks due south from the Memorial. The remainder of the key events of National Police Week will continue to take place on the Memorial grounds. At the Vigil, thousands of people will raise candles in honor of all fallen officers and hear the names recently engraved on the Memorial walls read aloud. The Vigil also includes musical tributes and remarks from special dignitaries. TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is located on E Street, between 4th and 5th Streets, NW, in Washington, DC.
