A special thanks for contributing to this publication goes to: Justin Phillips - Russ Robbins - Terry Tucker - Travis Woods - Speedy Denny - Monty Pennington - Matt Rowe - Scott Radford - Don Musser - Richard Thompson I love the InSitu online publication. 12 Found by: Terry Tucker - Kentucky Found on April 16, 2005 in Kentucky Photos by: Terry Tucker Crinoid Inclusion Fossil I found this Turkeytail, made of Boyle Chert. This Turkeytail has a large Crinoid Fossil in it. We don t see many made from hornstone. - Terry Tucker Turkeytail - Late Archaic to Early Woodland {According to Minnesota State University, Turkey Tail Points are found in caches, or deposits, of up to 200 specimens. Most of these have been intentionally broken (See Pg 14).} 12
Found by: Terry Tucker - Kentucky Photos by: Terry Tucker Found April 2005, Harrodsburg, KY This point is typed by Jackson as an Unfractured base, clipped wing Decatur. Since finding this piece, it is developing red veins (upper right) in the material I guess starting to show its more natural minerals. It has a ground base. The material I am not sure on, calling it a River Cobble (it looks similar to a type of Carter Cave Flint). - Terry Tucker Decatur - Early Archaic 13
Found by: Terry Tucker - Kentucky Found April 2005, Harrodsburg, KY Photos by: Terry Tucker I m calling this point is a Pinetree (Kirk Corner Notch?). It shows beveling on all four sides. The material is a type of Boyles Chert. - Terry Tucker Pinetree - Early Archaic 14
Found by: Terry Tucker - Kentucky Found May 5, 2005, Harrodsburg, KY Photos by: Terry Tucker This Beaver Lake was found May 5, The material is a blue and pink Boyles Chert. The base is ground. - Terry Tucker Beaver Lake - Paleo 15
Found by: Terry Tucker - Kentucky Photos by: Terry Tucker This Dovetail was found May 5, 2005 in Harrodsburg, KY. The material is beautiful, translucent Sonora Flint. - Terry Tucker Dovetail - Early Archaic 16
Found by: Speedy Denny - Kentucky Samples of the collected material was sent to Coral Gables and we received a good solid date on the cache of 2760 years BP +/- 60 years Photos by: Monty Pennington KENTUCKY TURKEYTAIL-FULTON CACHE DISCOVERY Approximately 220 Blades Ceremonially Killed 17
Found by: Speedy Denny - Kentucky Photos by: Monty Pennington It did not take long to discover that Speedy had indeed found a cache! And most amazing is that he found it by "surface hunting" a tobacco patch! Here again, as I have said before, I believe that erosion had finally taken off enough top soil that the plow barely touched the top of the cache dragging the few pieces to the surface that tipped Speedy off the there may have been a cache below. I must give Speedy a lot of credit here for being able to recognize the signs that led to this GREAT discovery - Monty Pennington 18
Found by: Speedy Denny - Kentucky Photos by: Monty Pennington We discovered the first tail at 9 inches down. At about 14 1/2 inches we started hitting the black material that the cache was buried in. I believe that this may have been an animal skin, possibly a bear with lots of fat (the black that was coating the blades was "greasy feeling"). Anywhere that we found the black dirt, there was material in it. - Monty Pennington 19
Found by: Speedy Denny - Kentucky Photos by: Monty Pennington At the very bottom of the cache, charcoal was found, some pieces still resembling the wood that was used. Some of the points were fire popped as well as killed, showing that they were placed pretty much directly into a fire. They were all together in the above mentioned small space. We found several tips together, then several bases. Some were on edge, some flat, some standing upwards. Most of the middles were at the bottom. This brought us to the following conclusion... These points were killed on some sort of raw hide, then rolled up and dropped into the fire as part of the ceremony. 20
Found by: Speedy Denny - Kentucky Photos by: Monty Pennington For more Info. Visit: Dr. Michael Gramley agreed to take over the science associated with the cache. According to Dr. Gramley of the ASAA, this was the first time that any material related to a "Killed" Turkeytail cache has been recovered that would afford the scientific community an opportunity to study and hopefully glean some information as to the Why and When! We have been going through the pieces and have determined that the size of the cache, based on a tail count, is around 220 blades - Monty Pennington 21

Found by: Don Musser - New Mexico Photos by: Don Musser Upper) This point is made from Hartville Uplift Chert and was found on the shore line of a shallow playa in SW New Mexico on 1/28/05. I had walked all day (10-12 mi). The point came out of the ground, flawless and fully intact; there couldn t have been a better way to end such a long day! Lower) Made from a brown/grey chert, this has been identified as a "Little Colorado Stemmed," a transitional /late Paleo typed by Ben Stermer on his COA. It was found on 12/9/04 in a blown red sand hill area (random find - unassociated with any site) in Southern New Mexico. - Don Musser 25
Found by: Don Musser - New Mexico Photos by: Don Musser Upper Left) This is a Rio Grande and is made from a grey quartzite. It was a random find from a blown red sand hill area in Southern New Mexico on 2/18/05 Upper Right/Center) This base tang is made from a Jasper/Agate type stone and was found on12/19/04 in a blown red sand hill area in Southern New Mexico. - Don Musser 26
Found by: Don Musser - New Mexico Photos by: Don Musser This barbed corner notched point was found on the shore of a shallow playa in Southwest New Mexico on 4/28/05. It is made from banded Rancheria Chert and it appears that the maker intentionally aligned the centerline axis of the point with the radius of the circle described by the concentric bands in the stone - an unusual and unique combination of craftsmanship and art - with the tip of the point hitting the "Bulls-eye." - Don Musser 27
Found by: British Columbia, Canada Photos by: Finder This desert series, side notched is made of black basalt. Found walking the river bank. Found on April 19, 2005 Desert Series - Classic to Historic 28

Found by: Richard Thompson - Missouri Photos by: Richard Thompson Here's a decent Archaic blade, found on April 12th, 2004, in a small tributary creek, Dallas Co., Mo.. Made of Burlington and measures 4 1/2" - Richard Thompson 30
Found by: Richard Thompson - Missouri Found in Polk Co., Mo. on April 20, 2005 Photos by: Richard Thompson Still firmly imbedded, it was eroding out of a slope, on a high spur of land, immediately above the creek. Vegetation made it hard to see much dirt, but where the rocky soil was exposed; there were enough derivative flakes, to convince me there was a camp here. Although most would immediately say Dickson, I believe that this may be a much earlier Standlee type - Richard Thompson 31
