2 DORSET SMALL-BORE RIFLE & PISTOL ASSOCIATION Dorset Founded 1910 Small-Bore Rifle and Pistol Association NSRA Affiliation Number 2870 President ~ The Lord Digby I have been asked to explore the possibility of running a league exclusively for vintage air rifles, i.e. rifles manufactured before The sort of league envisaged would probably be similar to the existing six yard league, but I m open to suggestions. Quite how many of these rifles are still around is probably uncertain, but if anyone is interested please let me know. Providing there is sufficient interest to be worthwhile I d be more than happy to include a section in the Dorset Leagues. My address is at the bottom of this page. Barrie FRONT COVER GA219 Hengistbury Head Hengistbury Head has a history of human occupation dating back 12,000 years, towards the end of the last ice age, when it s entirely possible the English Channel simply didn t exist. In the early Stone Age it became a fortified settlement, one of a chain across Dorset, separated from the mainland by a double dyke similar to Maiden Castle. Many years later it developed into a primary trading port. Mining in the 19 th century weakened its sea defences, and it became geologically and ecologically fragile. It is now managed by the National Trust and is designated as a SSSI and a site of historical importance.
