2 The Players: Aaron C Pixton Age 16. Vestal, New York. Aaron began to play chess at the age. He has just finished 11 th grade at the Susquehanna School. Aaron is very proud of his excellent result at the 2000 New York Open, where he tied for the Under-2400 prize. Aaron won the U.S. Cadet Championship in 2001 and is a member of the 2002 Pressman All-American Chess Team. He enjoys music and science fiction and hopes to be a mathematician. IM Vinay Bhat Age 18. San Jose, California. In 1994, at the age of ten, Vinay set a record by becoming the youngest player to achieve the title of National Master. He has been a member of the Pressman All-American Chess Team for 10 straight years, and has represented the U.S. at the World Youth Chess Championships eight times. He was co-champion at the 1998 U.S. Cadet Championship, and he won the gold medal (Boys Under-14 category) in the 98 Pan-American Youth Chess Championship. Vinay recently completed the 12 th grade. His favorite subjects are math, science and computers. He enjoys reading, collecting baseball cards, and Tennis. Noah J Siegel Age 19. New York, NY. In 1996 Noah won the U.S. Cadet Championships. He represented the United States three times in the World Youth Tournament (1994, ). Noah was one of three National High School Co-Champs in 2001; he was also the 1992 N.Y.S. Primary Champion. Noah likes many sports and has just completed his freshman year at Connecticut College, where his major will be history or English. FM Andrei Zaremba Age 20. Richardson TX. Andrei won the Denker Tournament of High School Champions twice (1997 and 1999), and he has won the Michigan Junior Chess Championship three times. He has represented the United States in both the Pan-American Youth Chess Championships. His other interests include reading, soccer, hockey, football and basketball. FM Daniel Fernandez Age 17. Boca Raton, Florida. Born in Lima, Peru, Daniel attends ST. Andrews School. A chessplayer since age 6, he first earned his master rating at age 11. Daniel won first place in three national scholastic tournaments, and he won the gold medal in the Under 14 category of the 1999 Pan-American Youth Championship. His all-time favorite chessplayers are John Nunn and Bobby Fischer, and the person he most admires outside of chess is Mark McGwire. In school his favorite subjects are math and computers, and his career goals are to become a chess grandmaster and a medical doctor. Daniel is a member of the 2002 Pressman All-American Chess Team.

3 FM Philip Wang Age 19. Reno, Nevada. Philip is a National Merit scholar, a Gates Millennium Scholar and an eight-time member of the Pressman All-America Chess Team. He is the Captain, President and the first board of the Stanford University Chess Team. In 1999 he won first place in the National Scholar-Chessplayer Competition. Philip is pursuing a double major in computer science and philosophy. He enjoys tennis, ping pong and pool. His career goal is to become a professor or a business analyst. Daniel Rensch Age 16. Mesa Arizona. Daniel was the Arizona State Elementary Champion and the National Elementary Co-Champion in 1998, and he won the National Junior High Championship in Daniel was also the captain of the four-time national scholastic championship team from Shelby School. He enjoys basketball, computers and music, and he aspires to become a grandmaster. Daniel is a member of the 2002 Pressman All-American Chess Team. IM Dmitry Schneider Age 17. New City, New York. Dmitry recently completed the 12 th grade at Clarkstown North High School. He was the U.S. Cadet Co-Champion in 1998, and in 1999 he won the championship of the prestigious Marshall Chess Club agead of several titled players, becoming the youngest titleholder ever. He won the gold medal in the Boys Under-16 category of the 2000 Pan-American Youth Chess Championship. Dmitry was also the 2000 N.Y. State co-champ, and he si a member fo the Pressman All-American Chess Team. In addition to chess, he also enjoys sports, movies and reading books. Stanislav Ritvin Age 20. Rockledge, Pennslvania. Stan is a former member of the many-time national champion Julia R Masterman School chess team. In 1995 he won the national 8 th -grade championship; in 1996 he won the National Middle School (K-8) Championship; and in 1997 he won the national 10 th - grade championship. Stan has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and also enjoys soccer and table tennis. Stan is a third year student at Penn State. Matthew B Hoekstra Age 17. Charlotte, North Carolina. Matthew enjoys politics, econonmics, travel, baseball and golf. He has played chess for 7 years and teaches chess in several schools in Charlotte. His favorite chessplayer is Vladimir Kramnic, and his heroes are Ronald Reagan, Jay Leno and Rush Limbaugh. He won the North Carolina State Championship and has won four N. C. Scholastic titles. Matt tied for first in the Denker Tournament of High School Champions in 2000 and finished

4 second and fourth in the U.S. Cadets in 1999 and He is a member of the 2002 Pressman Allamerican Chess Team.
