3 Famous Poles (just few examples) Mieszko I - the first historical ruler of Poland, considered the de facto creator of the Polish state. Tadeusz Kościuszko - one of the greatest freedom fighters of his era. He is a national hero in Poland, Lithuania, USA and Belarus. Pope John Paul II - (Karol Wojtyła) his pontificate was the second-longest documented one; one of the most-travelled world leaders in history, visiting 129 countries ; he spoke many languages, incl. Esperanto. Fryderyk Chopin - composer, virtuoso pianist, one of the great masters of Romantic music. Lech Wałęsa - charismatic trade-union leader of Solidarity (Solidarność), politician, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1983, President of Poland. Roman Polański - actor, film director, script writer; Oscar Award winner. Józef Piłsudski - Polish revolutionary and statesman, field marshal, first chief of state and dictator of renascent Poland; largely responsible for Poland's regaining its independence in 1918, after 123 years of partitions; great enthusiast and patron of chess. Mikołaj Kopernik astronomer, he was the first in modern history to put forward a heliocentric theory of the Solar System; also a physician, economist, translator, cartographer and deviser of a system for the reform of the Julian calendar, and a public administrator. Maria Skłodowska- Curie - twice awarded the Nobel Prize (1903 for physics, 1911 in chemistry)

5 Kraków Cracow is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated on the Vistula River in the Lesser Poland region, the city dates back to the 7th century. It was the capital of Poland from 1038 to 1569.
