Why should I use games in my current business? I am not going to sit here and try to sell you on the idea of using games at least not yet. Ha! I know crazy right? Instead, I am going to tell you the truth about what is going on with your clients and potential clients. The big hard truth is that your clients can get a workout at any kickboxing, MMA, boot camp, dance studio or aerobics facility. In your head, you are the best and coolest place out of all of those, but in their heads there is no difference between your program and a local dance aerobics class at the community center. You need to establish things in your curriculum and business structure that will distinguish you from those other types of activities. Something that will create an experience that people can t get at any other facility. When you have something or somethings that are that unique, it doesn t matter where you are located, how many staff members you have or how up to date your facility is people will be lined up to train with you! That is why I chose to use Fitness Games as my differentiation tool Okay now I m going to talk a little about Fitness Games. Ha ha. I knew no one else in the area was playing games and I knew from personal experience that people LOVED playing them, so I took the leap of faith and gave it a shot. As soon as I incorporated them into my boot camps, we were the talk of the town. Pictures were being posted on Facebook. People were blowing up the comments on those photos. It was like the perfect storm of buzz that generated us tons of new leads. This is why I am giving you these games today. The amount of fun and excitement that will be going on in your facility will be staggering. I know this sounds too simple to be true, but think about it for a second After a long crazy workout (which I m sure you deliver), would you personally want to have some fun or just keep getting your butt kicked? I can tell you right now, some people will be talking about how great your workout was, but MORE people will be telling you about how much fun they had. Keep in mind, people don t remember what you said or what you made them do, they remember how you make them feel. If they feel energized and pumped up, then they will keep coming back and keep telling their friends about your program. That, my friend, is EXACTLY what we want to happen Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 4

How to Use These Games If you want to get the most out of your games there are a few things you need to know first. 1. Play music while you play games. It keeps the energy levels high. 2. Make sure you have the supplies needed to play each game. This means you should pick a game before the session starts. This way you are prepared. 3. If it is your first time playing a fitness game, don t tell your clients it s a game until after they have played it. Just explain the rules and tell them what to do. Act like it is another form of training (because it is). 4. If applicable, have some type of prize picked out for the winning team and a punishment for the losing team. You could even do something like: the winning team gets to count the other team s pushups. 5. Make sure your energy level is high when you are explaining the rules. If you sound excited then everyone will be excited and these games will work great. 6. Make sure to take pics and post to Facebook. This makes you look like the nonboring workout or cool gym. When to play the Games I usually recommend playing the games at the end of a training session; although, from time to time, I will play an easier game for the warm up. Another great idea is to have a day where you just play fitness games for the whole session. Pick harder more challenging games for more of a workout. 7 Card Line Grab Format: Two teams of people Equipment Needed: referral cards or passes. Setup: Lay down a line of referral cards across the middle of the floor. Then, split the group up into two groups, lined up on opposite sides of the floor facing each other. Objective: The team with the most referral cards at the end of the game will win. How to Play: When the game begins, one person from each side will run toward the middle of the room and grab a referral card. Once they have grabbed one, they have to bring it back to their team s line. When they return to their team s line, the next person can run out and grab a card. This will continue until all of the cards are gone and then the team with the most cards will be the winning team. People can only grab one card at a time for this game. Referral Card Steal Format: Even teams of people per home bases (if you have 4 home bases and 16 people, then 4 groups of 4 people) Equipment Needed: Referral Cards/Passes (at least 1-2 per person), Hula Hoops or buckets, or something to constitute a home base. Setup: Place the home bases scattered around the floor. For the sake of this explanation we will use hula hoops. Place a small even amount of referral cards in each team s hula hoop. The rest of the cards, scatter around the center of the room. Have each team start by standing behind their hula hoops (home bases) Objective: The team with the most referral cards in their hula hoop at the end of the time limit wins. How to Play: When you say go each person will try to grab referral cards and place them into their hula hoop. THEY MAY ONLY GRAB ONE CARD AT A TIME! THEY MAY NOT BABY SIT THEIR HULA HOOP. Everyone must keep moving at all times. Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 7

They may steal cards from other team s hula hoops, or grab them from the middle of the room. They simply have to keep moving cards until the time limit is reached. We usually aim for 60 to 120 seconds to play this game. When the time is over, everyone must drop their cards wherever they are on the floor. If they aren t near the hoop then they don t count. Count up each team s cards to crown the winner. Referral Card Over/Under Race Format: Teams of 6-10 people. Equipment Needed: Referral Cards Setup: Each team stands in a single file line, everyone facing the same direction. The person at the front of the line will hold the referral card. Objective: The first team to get back into the starting order of people wins. How to Play: When you say go, the first person in the team will pass the referral card over their head to the person behind them. Then, that person will pass the card between their legs to the person behind them. This over/under pattern will repeat until the referral card has reached the person at the end of the line. Once the card is at the end of the line, that person will run to the front of the line and start the cycle all over again by passing the card over their head to the person behind them. Once a team has returned to the same starting order of people, that team has won the game. If the card drops, the card has to start back at the front of the line. *For more variation use more than one card per team. How Many? Format: Everyone for themselves Equipment Needed: referral cards or passes. Setup: Lay down referral cards, scattered around the floor. Have everyone spread out across the floor. Objective: The person with the most referral cards will win. Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 8

How to Play: When the game begins, everyone will run around the floor randomly until you call out an exercise. When you call out an exercise everyone must stop where they are and do five reps of that exercise. After the reps are completed they will start running around in random order again. This will continue until you call out how many? When you say this everyone will have to grab as many cards as possible off of the floor. The person with the most cards will win. Partner Steal Format: Teams of two people Equipment Needed: referral cards or passes. Setup: Make a big pile of referral cards in the middle of the floor. Have everyone grab a partner and stand as far as they can away from the pile, next to their partner. Objective: The team with the most referral cards at the end of the game will win. How to Play: When the game begins, one partner will run to the pile, grab ONE card and bring it back to where their partner is standing. Then, the other partner will run to the pile and grab ONE card and bring it back. This will continue until all of the cards are gone from the pile. The team with the most cards will win. Drop It! Format: Tagger(s) versus everyone Equipment Needed: One card per person Setup: Designate one to four people to be taggers (depending on the size of the group). Everyone else will need to hold on to a referral card and spread out across the floor. Objective: The person with the most cards at the end of the time limit will win. How to Play: When the game begins, the taggers will begin to run after everyone and tag them. Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 9

Once someone is tagged, they have to drop their card(s) that they are holding onto. Once the card is dropped, anyone can pick up the card. If someone who has multiple cards is tagged, they have to drop all of them. This game will continue for about two to three minutes and then at the end of the time, tally up all of the cards to see who has the most. The person with the most cards will win. Musical Cards Format: One big group of people Equipment Needed: one referral card per person and a music player. Setup: Lay down the referral cards in a single file line and then take one away. Next, have everyone stand around the line of cards. Objective: The last person standing wins. How to Play: When the music starts, everyone will begin to walk clockwise around the line of cards. When the music stops, everyone will try to grab a card. If they do not get a card they must sit on the side line and do jumping jacks until the end of the game. After a person has been eliminated, have everyone put their cards back in a single file line and take one card away. Start the music again and repeat the process until one person is left standing. This is a cool twist on musical chairs. Calf Tag Showdown Format: Teams of two people Equipment Needed: One referral card per person Setup: Have everyone grab a partner and stand next to each other. Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 10

Objective: The person with the most cards wins. How to Play: When time begins, partners will play calf tag by trying to tag their partner s calves with their hands. Every time someone tags a calf, they get a point. The person with the most points at the end of 30 seconds wins. The winner of the match gets to keep their card and they also get their partner s card. If someone loses their card, they must wait on the sideline by running in place. Repeat this process with new partners, until one person is left standing with all of the cards. Plank Pass Format: Two teams of people Equipment Needed: An even amount of referral cards per team; the more the merrier. Setup: Have the two teams of people get into a line holding in plank position (planking side by side). Place a large pile of cards at one end of each line of people. Objective: The team to move the pile of cards down the line and back first will win. How to Play: When the game starts, the person closets to the pile will begin to pass one card at a time down the line of people. Once the card reaches the other end, they can pass the next card. When all of the cards are on the other end of the line, they must repeat this process to get the cards back to the other end (starting end) of the line. Everyone must hold in a plank position for the entire game. They may ONLY pass ONE CARD at a time. The first team to complete the race will win. Squat Count Down Format: Every person for themselves Equipment Needed: One card/pass per person Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 11

Setup: Have everyone place their referral card on their head. Objective: The person to complete the race first without dropping the card will win. How to Play: When the game begins, everyone will start squatting. They need to do 30 squats in a row, without letting the card drop off of their head Every time the card drops off of someone s head they must place the card back on their head and start back at one rep. The first person to do 30 squats in a row without dropping the card will win. Squats must come down at least half way down to count as a squat NO BABY SQUATS! Avoid the Bears Format: Two to four people versus everyone Equipment Needed: 20+ referral cards Setup: Lay down a line of referral cards across the middle of the floor. Then, have everyone line up on one side of the room. Have the two to four taggers wait in the middle of the floor, by the cards, in bear crawl position. Objective: The person with the most referral cards at the end will win. How to Play: When the instructor calls out go, the people will run toward the line of cards trying to grab as many as they can. As people are trying to grab cards, the bears will be tagging people. When someone is tagged by a bear, they must take their cards and go wait on the side lines in a squat position. After everyone has been tagged by the bears, the person with the most cards will win. Collection Tag Format: Two to four taggers versus everyone Equipment Needed: referral cards or passes. Setup: Spread out all of the referral cards across the floor. Have everyone else spread out. Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 12

Objective: The person with the most cards at the end of the time limit will win. How to Play: When time starts, everyone will run around the floor and try to grab as many cards as possible. The taggers will be tagging people. When someone is tagged they must drop all of their cards and keep running around. Once the cards are dropped, everyone is free to grab them. This game will continue for about one to two minutes and then tally up the cards to see who has the most. This is a variation of Drop it that works better if you have a large amount of referral cards. If you don t have a large number of cards, then use drop it instead of this game. Duck Balance Race Format: Every person for themselves. Equipment Needed: One referral card per person. Setup: Have everyone line up on one side of the floor, place a referral card on their head and get into a duck walk position. Objective: The first person to finish the race will win. How to Play: When the race starts, everyone will advance down to the opposite end of the floor by duck walking. If the card falls off of their head, they must start back at the starting line. The first person to make it down to the opposite end and back to the starting line without dropping the card will win. Jump to Referrals Format: Everyone for themselves Equipment Needed: referral cards or passes. Setup: Spread out the referral cards across the floor. Have everyone line up on one side of the floor. Objective: The first person to reach the opposite end of the floor will win. Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 13

How to Play: When the game starts, people must hop and land on a referral card. Once they land on one, they can hop to the next card. Everyone will keep hopping and landing on cards to advance their way down the floor to the opposite side. If they miss the card or crash into someone else trying to land on a card, they must start over at the starting line. To make this game interesting, use fewer cards and spread them further apart. The first person to reach the opposite side wins. Card Side Slide Format: Teams of two people Equipment Needed: Five cards per team of people Setup: Have everyone grab a partner and give each pair of partners five cards. Then, have everyone line up on one side of the floor. Objective: The team to complete the race will win. How to Play: When the game begins, the partner holding the five cards will begin to side shuffle down the floor in a squat position and place his five cards evenly in a line down the floor. Once they reach the other end of the floor and all of their cards are on the ground, the other partner will side shuffle in a squat position toward them and pick up all of their cards from the floor. When, both partners are now on the opposite end of the floor, repeat this process to get back to the starting position. The first team to move down the floor and back with the cards will win. Plank Rotation Pass Format: Teams of two people Equipment Needed: One referral card per team of two people. Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 14

Setup: Have everyone grab a partner and give each pair of partners on referral card. Then, have the partners hold in a side plank position (back to back) facing opposite directions. Objective: The team with the most points will win. How to Play: When the game starts, the partner holding the card will reach above their body in the side plank position and hand the card to their partner. The partner will grab the card with the hand that is in the air and touch the card to the ground underneath their body. Once the card touches the ground, they will reverse the motion and pass the card back to their partner and now their partner will touch it to the ground under their body. This passing back and forth motion will continue for one minute and then they will switch sides. Every time the card touches the ground the team will get a point. The team with the most points at the end of the two minute time period will win This is a great way to disguise side plank twists. Burpee Pass Down Format: Teams of two people Equipment Needed: One referral card per team of two people. Setup: Line up the partners (one behind the other) on one end of the floor and give the person in front the referral card. Objective: The team to reach the opposite side of the floor first will win. How to Play: When the race starts, the person holding the referral card will do a burpee. After they land the burpee, they will pass the card between their legs to their partner behind them. Once the partner grabs the card from them, they will run behind their partner. The partner now holding the card will do a burpee and pass it between their legs to their partner again. Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 15

This process will continue to move each team down the floor. The first team to reach the opposite end of the floor will win. Make Sure to Check Out These Other Games Below Copyright Kalakay Fitness Systems LLC - All Rights Reserved Worldwide. 16
