Shuffle the cards and place the deck face down in the center of the table. a) Each student draws four cards from the deck and arranges the cards to produce two 2-digit numbers that will produce the greatest possible product. Record the created numbers and their product. b) Each student in the group is to compare their product with those created in the group. Then list all products in order from least to greatest. Day 2 Trivia Time: The world s largest glacier, located in the Swiss Alps, has more ice than any other glacier. It is 2 miles wide, more than 1,000 feet thick and 17 miles long. a) If the glacier was rectangular in shape, how can you find the area? b) Write a number sentence to show the solution. Label your answer. Day 3 Marsha has a large rectangular vegetable garden with a perimeter of 84 feet. Virginia also has a rectangular garden with a length of twenty-five feet and a width of sixteen feet. a) Who has the larger perimeter for a garden? How much larger? b) What could be the length and width of Marsha s garden if the measurements were whole numbers? Explain your process. Day 4 Sharon buys several boxes of melons from the farmer s market. Each box contains 12 melons. Sometimes she buys as many as 15 boxes and as few as 8 boxes of melons. Day 5 a) What could be the least number of melons Sharon bought? b) What could be the most number of melons Sharon bought? c) What is a reasonable range in the number of melons Sharon bought from the farmer s market? I knew the answer had to 736 because if you add the digits = 16. Day 5 Fact Time Advanced Preparation: Optional Handout: Spiraling Review Cards. These cards may be used in place of number cubes and playing cards for activities.
