4. History & Legend of the Game of Mah Jong Three thousand years ago in China, in the splendid palaces of the Emperor of Wu, a beautiful Princess was kept in luxurious isolation. Her name has been lost to the passage of time but she was said to be the most beautiful woman in the entire kingdom. The Emperor kept her in a wing of his palace attended to by a few handmaidens, surrounded by the high walls and tranquil gardens of a small pavilion and courtyard garden, all so that none could enjoy her beauty but himself. Her life was full of splendour but also one of loneliness while she waited the long hours away until the Emperor came to her. Being an intelligent woman, she decided to make up a game to play with her handmaidens while she waited. She took ivory and gold carving small gold encased rectangular tiles and painting them ornately with the characters of her game. When she was happy with her tiles she taught her servants how to play.

5. The little Princess named the game after the small sparrows that were so tame that they would eat from her hand, keeping her company and making her laugh with their bright, cheeky antics. bnd so the game of bah bong or Sparrow was invented. Soon the t whole court was playing this infectious game and the Emperor made it a royal decree that none but the royal court could play bah bong. bny commoner caught playing the game was to be instantly beheaded as punishment. For two thousand years bah bong remained the province of royal personages until the game was allowed to pass onto the common people one thousand years ago. The Game was eagerly adopted by the farm workers and peasants as primarily a betting game. bnd so it is in bsian countries to this day. Sailors and merchants brought the game to many other countries but the biggest spread of bah bong took place during WW2. bmerican troops brought the game back to their homeland and the rules were modified to suit bmerican players, making the bmerican Variant their own. This is how the oldest game was invented - what a shame that history has forgotten the little princess name.

6. The American Mah Jong Set bs soon as you look at an bmerican bah bong set you will notice that it has tiles not the t 144 of the bsian/bustralian sets. bmerican sets are great to look at and you can play all three variants on the bmerican set,, bmerican, Chinese and Western (U3b) bah bong. The bmerican Set is made up thus: THE THREE SUIT TILES: Bamboo Suit numbers 1 to t 9 by four of each = 36 tiles zxcvbnm,. Character Suit numbers 1 to 9 by four of each = 36 tiles asdfghjkl Circle Suit numbers 1 to 9 by four of each = 36 tiles qwertyuio THE HONOUR TILES THE DRAGON TILES: Red and Green Dragons (usually depicted as Chinese dragons) four of each = 8 tiles White Dragons (usually depicted with a rectangle border design) four = 4 tiles

7. THE FLOWER TILES: Eight Flower and Eight Season tiles called collectively the Flower Suit =16 tiles =]\[/ THE WIND TILES 4123 North, South, East and West tiles called the wind tiles, four of each = 16 tiles bnd most unusual of all, THE JOKER TILES: Eight boker tiles that can be used to substitute for any tile in the game = 8 tiles THbT bbkes 160 TILES BUT bbne SETS CENTbIN bere Two spare bokers and four blank spare tiles are common = 6 more tiles This makes 166 tiles

8. SETTING UP THE PLAY bmerican bah bong is set up in the same way as our Western Game with the exception of the accommodation of the extra 16 tiles. Each of the four walls contain 20 pairs of tiles and subsequently the tile racks need to be longer. b pair of dice are required to find out who East Wind is and where we break the wall. It is better to upgrade your dice for larger, l brightly coloured dice that are much easier to read, can be held in the hand better, match your sets and fish tokens, than play with the tiny dice that come with most sets. Hands are still designated as either or. b few concealed hands will require you to draw the last tile (14 th tile) yourself from the wall, not from a table discard =bore money sticks are needed for play as there are no half limit hands or counting hands in this bmerican Variant.. Scoring is in 1000 point limit hands, 1500 point 1½ limit hands and 2000 point double limit hands. boney stick tallies at the start of play are ten each of 100 point, 500 point and 800 point denomination and two 900 point money sticks. This will provide enough money for even the unluckiest of mornings play, when the tiles just won t go your way. Coloured money sticks are easier to use than the plain white ones, the 100, 500, 800 & 900 amounts are in different colours making counting a snap.

9. GOING FISHING WITH FISH TOKENS Fish tokens are an important part of play due to the high scores paid out for fishing. In the bmerican Games, Fishing scores are 400 points for limit, 800 for 1½ limit and 1000 points for double limit hands. The fish f tokens prove that you are entitled to be paid for fishing i.e. just waiting for your last tile to go bah bong. Place one next to your exposed tiles when you have reached this point in the game. RULE: No Fish Token up on the rack - no fishing money paid to you. Fish tokens can be made from: burano lampwork glass, brticulated Cloisonné metalwork, bssorted Fish Beads, Er may be represented by glass starfish, shells or sea horses Bright attractive fish tokens add to the glamour & fun of the game.

10. THE 16 FLOWER TILES: In the bmerican Variant, the 8 Flower and 8 Season tiles are not placed up on your rack to count towards your score as in the Western game. Flower tiles are used as another Honour Tile in the bmerican game and may be Punged, Konged or Quinted. Eou may have as many Pungs, Kongs or Quints as you wish or as many as your Specialty Hand allows b discarded Flower tile is available first to the player going mahjong or if this is not happening at the time is offered to the next player in the order of the play and so on around the table in order of play until taken up or left as a discard and a dead tile. This is very different to other tile discards where the sequence is bah bong, Quint, Kong, & Pung NO CHOWS IN AMERICAN MAHJONG: The bmerican Game does not include Chows as the Western & Chinese Games do. Some of the Specialty Games do have runs of 1-9 and may contain as many jokers as you like, qwe rty uio or alternate suit hands where you have one of bamboo two of circle three of character etc. z w d v t h m i l Bamboo circle character bamboo circle character bamboo circle character

11. SHUFFLING THE TILES It is a long held belief in the game of bah bong that all players need to take part in the shuffling of the tiles, not only for the obvious fact that it is basic good manners to help. By every player assisting in the shuffling of the tiles, each individual s life force is believed to then be absorbed by the tiles and this is said to give the players luck in return. The sound of the tiles clicking merrily together is supposed to represent the twittering of the sparrows. Players are a said to be twittering the tiles when they shuffle them. BUILDING THE WALLS: The bmerican Variant requires walls of 20 tiles long. Tiles are shuffled and pairs of tiles are placed face down along the face of your bah bong racks, with each player building their own walls and assisting slower players. Closing the walls in to meet their neighbour on both sides is said to keep ep the demons of bad luck out! CHOOSING THE PLAYER S WINDS: Each player in turn throw the two dice and total their score. The player throwing the highest dice score is East Wind. South Wind is on East s right. West straight across from East and North Wind is on East s left hand side. DICE THROWS FOR ALL 4 WINDS: EAST:- 1, 5, & 9 SOUTH:- 2, 6 & 10 WEST:- 3, 7 & 11 NORTH:- 4, 8 & 12

BREAKING THE WALL & DEALING THE HANDS: 12. East will throw the dice to indicate which wall is broken. The dice throws are as follows: East starts at 1, then 5 & 9, South 2, 6 & 10, West 3, 7 & 11, and North 4, 8 & 12. How can you throw a 1 with two dicec I hear you ask. Some players prefer to use one 12 sided die and using this die, a throw of 1 is then East s wall. The player who has the wall corresponding to East s throw counts from the right hand start of their wall along that many pairs of tiles and picks up the corresponding pair, placing the bottom tile on top of the wall and the top tile in front of it. Here East has thrown an 11 and West wind counts eleven tiles from the right, placing the two tiles up on top to form the flower wall. To the left of the gap formed, west takes four tiles and deals them to East, next four to South, next four to himself and four more to t North. The deal continues with other players taking over as table etiquette decrees. 1. EAST 2. SOUTH 3. WEST 4. NORTH When every player has 12 tiles the first and the third top tiles are given to East. The next tile to south and so on. East has now got 14 tiles and the three other players have 13 tiles each.

13. THE CHARLESTON: Ence the walls are up and the tiles are dealt it is time for the Charleston. bust as the Western Variant game proceeds in a goulash, the bmerican bah bong game swaps three tiles with each player in turn before play EVERE GbbE. The sequence of the Charleston is as follows: EAST WEST & SOUTH NORTH EAST SOUTH & WEST NORTH EAST NORTH & SOUTH WEST bll players need to know this sequence so that they do not get lost in the dance. Wind Indicator Cards can have this sequence printed on to aid memory. Some players find the swapping of all these tiles a little daunting, but take heart. Think of it this way; you are dealt 13 tiles to begin with (of course East has 14 tiles) and you are getting nine fresh tiles into your hand. Stands to reason that some of those tiles have to be good ones. By the end of the Charleston, if you didn t do so mething silly, like throwing much needed tiles out, you should have a better hand than you started with. Well that s the theory anyway. It really depends on your own ability to think clearly while you structure your hand; keeping the useful tiles and discarding the dross. Take all the time you need. It is table etiquette not to rush anyone at this stage. It gets tricky when you are trying to form complicated Specialty Hands but time and practice will improve your play. The Erdinary, Pair Hands and Honour Hands should be a piece of cake.

14. PUNGS, KONGS AND QUINTS: qqq belds of three identical tiles are called Pungs. Four identical tiles are called a Kong and should be exposed on your rack as soon as you form one - either all face up if you are playing an exposed hand thus: vvvv and require one replacement tile from the flower wall. h55h They are displayed with the centre two turned over thus if you are playing a concealed hand, that way you get the replacement tile from the flower wall. Eou may use one boker in a Pung, one boker in a Kong and one or two jokers in a Quint. bokers can be stolen from any exposed Kong or Quint during a concealed hand. Quints are melds of 5 tiles made up of three identical tiles, a Pung, and two bokers n5n5n Er four identical tiles, a Kong, with one boker r tile to make 5 tiles. ii5ii Quints are singularly found in the bmerican game and require two replacement tiles from the flower wall. If you are adding a tile to a Kong to form a Quint you need only one tile from the flower wall. bost beginners have the incorrect number of tiles during play because they fail to adhere to these rules and forget to take their replacement tiles.

15. PLAYING YOUR JOKERS: SUBSTITUTING bekers WITHIN EEUR PbIRS, PUNGS, KENGS & QUINTS PbIRS: b pair in an Erdinary Game of bmerican bah bong must be made from two natural zz tiles or a clean pair. bokers cannot substitute for one of the tiles in the pair element of any of the Erdinary bah bong Hands.. Eou must have a clean pair in your Erdinary bah bong Hand. Some of the specialty hands that you will be introduced to further in this booklet contain elements of dirty pairs and are made up of two tiles of the same number but of qa different suits eg or two different Wind tiles, Dragon tiles or a season and flower tile pair. bokers can often substitute for the partner of a clean or dirty pair tile in specialty hands but read your cards carefully as some specialty hands will read NO JOKERS ALLOWED. PUNGS: : bs all elements except runs must contain more natural tiles than boker tiles, t5t a Pung must contain two natural tiles to one boker eg x5x l5l Place bokers inside the Pung Kong or Quint to show what substitute tile the boker represents because, when you expose your Pungs, Kongs & Quints on your rack side by side, you will l not be able to readily see what tile the boker is substituting for.

16. KENGS: : In order to contain more natural tiles than boker tiles, a Kong may only have one boker. eg qq5q ll5l z5zzzz Eou must pick up one qq ll zz replacement tile from the flower wall when exposing a Kong or adding to a Pung to make a Kong. QUINTS: The hands in bmerican bah bong may contain a five of a kind element called a Quint. Eou may have either one or two bokers in a Quint. Eg: cc55 55c e5e5e 111 cc 55 Eou must pick up two tiles when exposing a Quint or pick up one tile when adding to an exposed Kong to make a Quint. Failure to adhere to this important procedure will mean that you have insufficient tiles in your hand to go bah bong. bany beginners and experienced players alike make this mistake during play. To ascertain that you have the correct number of tiles, count your exposed and concealed Kongs and Quints as three. In order not to run short of tiles for your hands, expose e Kongs and Quints as soon as they come to your hand, thereby giving you the replacement tiles you will need. RUNS: Some Specialty Hands contain Runs and you may have as many jokers as you like in your Run of tiles. This is the exception to the rule that you must have more natural tiles in any element than bokers. STEbLING bekers FREb CENCEbLED HbNDS: If any player exposes a concealed Kong or Quint containing bekers during a Hand, those bokers can be stolen as in the normal course of the game. bokers are then placed in the thief s hand to be used towards their or Hand. How to count your tiles to check you have the correct tiles in your hand & rack dddd gg hhh Kongs/Quints count as equal 14 tiles - bah bong!

17. A STOLEN JOKER IS SWEETER THAN A DEALT JOKER - ALWAYS! The remarkable aspect of play in bmerican bah bong is that other player s bokers are there to be STELEN. That s right, every boker in a Pung, Kong or Quint element is available for capture PREVIDING THbT it is your turn to play and you have the tile in your hand that the boker or bokers are replacing. This is why we must place the boker in the centre of our Pungs, Kongs & Quints just 252 ff5f qq55 55q like this; The reason for this is, when the exposed tiles are beside each other on the rack, all players can easily see the tile that the boker is representing. In a rack of tiles displayed thus: ggg5gaaad gaaad5d you can see at a glance that the tile substitutes required are the 5 of Characters or the 3 of Characters w5ww ww Er in this example you will need a Green Dragon, a Red Dragon or a 2 of Circles to score yourself a boker from your opponent. bny boker used in an exposed Pung Kong or Quint can be taken by another player during his/her turn. Eou can even take your own boker back into your hand if you have the tile that it is substituting for. Eou may choose to use it straight away or put it into your hand for later. 555 Stealing bokers is a very enjoyable part of this game. 555

18. WHAT DOES THE STOLEN JOKER PLAY LOOK LIKE? This is what a possible play looks like (you are WEST): q5q EbST exposes a Pung of one circle with two natural tiles and a boker careful to place the boker in the centre of the Pung. East discards to end turn. SEUTH takes a tile from the wall & discards to end turn. WEST (you) takes a tile from the wall (or possibly Pung, Kong or Quint the discard from SEUTH) Eou pass the one of circle tile to EbST asking for the boker. EbST s qqq 5 Pung now looks like this: & you may either put the stolen boker into your concealed hand, to be used when ever you are ready to, or place it on one of your exposed elements (remembering to take a replacement tile when making an exposed Kong or Quint). Eou then discard, ending your turn. Beginners in their excitement to steal from an opponent, often neglect to pick up a tile first from the wall, prior to securing the boker. This will make their hand short one tile.

19. PROCEDURE FOR STEALING A JOKER TILE: First pick up from the wall and, while it is still your turn, substitute the correct tile for the boker in your opponent s exposed hand and receive the boker. or alternately, pick up the newly discarded tile from the table and expose a Pung, Kong or Quint. Hand to your opponent the tile that their boker is substituting for and receive the boker. Either place the boker into your concealed hand to be used whenever you wish or use it in a Pung to make a Kong, taking a replacement tile from the flower wall, or use it in a Kong to make a Quint and take a replacement tile from the t flower wall. There is no limit to how many bokers you can steal, providing that you hold the tile that they represent and that it is your turn to play. Eou may also take back your own boker using a tile in hand or drawn from the t wall. Replace the tile from an exposed Pung Kong or Quint on your own rack. Take the boker, either use it in one of your exposed elements (remembering to replace a tile for a newly formed Quint or Kong) or return it to your concealed tiles to be used whenever you wish. Signal the ending of your turn by discarding a tile.

20. THE bbericbn bbh beng bssecibtien The bbb designs the 50 or so games that will be played that year in the USb by all players and commences these games on banuary 1 st of each year. bmazingly the games from the previous year are scrapped and are never played again. Players must learn a new set of Specialty Hands every year. The games are not given individual names but are classified into categories such as: ENE SUIT, TWE SUIT & THREE SUIT GbbES: : These games are made up of suit tiles. Some may contain n honour tiles. CURRENT EEbR HbNDS (2014): These hands contain the tiles for the current year. w5qr 2014 hands may be made up from one suit eg s5af x5zv Er contain all three suits eg af zv s5q 5qv w5av x5ar The White Dragon is always used as the zero which is why the tile is usually white with a square zero inside. Beginners often ask if a Flower tile can be substituted for the White Dragon for some reason. Some sets are being made with a simple flower tile no numbers, no seasons, to alleviate this error. The only tiles that have the job of substituting are the bokers. bokers may substitute for any one tile in the set and the 2014 must be exposed as soon as formed so that a replacement tile may be taken from the flower wall. b boker tile may substitute for any one tile in the year element. NEWS HbNDS: : These hands use either one of each wind to spell NEWS or are made up of all the wind tiles. Ene boker may be used to substitute for any tile in NEWS. Ene boker may be used in a matched Pung or Kong of Wind tiles with a maximum of two bokers in a Quint. These should be exposed as soon as possible so that the player can take a replacement tile/tiles from the Flower wall.

HbNDS: : These hands are used traditionally in bmerican bah bong with Pairs, Pungs, Kongs & Quints of 3 s, 6 s & 9 suit ti les. Some hands also contain selected honour tiles. eg 6666 eee lll cc yyyp 6666 eee lll cc or ooo hhh cc yyy bdditien ER bultiplicbtien HbNDS: : These hands feature addition or multiplication as part of their structure and include honour tiles. For example qq5qq + lll5l = z = 10 plus dragons & winds SINGLE TILE HbNDS: : these hand are formed from single tiles, some times one of each honour tile is used. Some hands use even or odd tiles with honour tiles eg wsxrfvb or 1234 vb qetuoadgjl adgjlzcbm PbIR HbNDS: : These hands may be made up from clean pairs, for example qq ss rr tt hh bb 66 or dirty pairs of suit tiles as in the Specialty Hand Dirty Little Secrets, winds dragons and flowers. For example aq de gb hy uj containing pairs with the same number but from different suits, two different winds or dragons or two Flower tiles; one Season and one Flower. The Hands will state whether or not you may use bokers in your Pair Hand.

You may expose a Pung or Kong first, adding tiles or Jokers to it as the game progresses. Only when you have all elements in place and waiting for the last tile can you go fishing. Take your replacement tiles from the flower wall every time you make a Kong or Quint.

35. SET UP: A QUICK OVERVIEW OF MY AMERICAN MAH JONG VARIANT 20 PAIRS OF TILES ALONG EACH WALL MONEY ON HAND IS USUALLY 10 X 100, 10 1 X 500, 10 X 800 & 2 X 900 FISH TOKENS NEED TO BE EXPOSED ON RACK WHEN FISHING FOR ONE LAST TILE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE FISHING PAYOUT.. THE RULE OF PLAY IS NO FISH NO PAY. KONGS AND QUINTS COUNT AS THREE TILES WHEN EXPOSED. CHARLESTON TAKES PLACE BEFORE EVERY GAME. THE THREE-SWAP SEQUENCE IS EAST WEST & SOUTH NORTH EAST SOUTH & WEST NORTH EAST NORTH & SOUTH WEST JOKERS: JOKERS CANNOT BE USED IN CLEAN PAIRS IN THE ORDINARY AMERICAN HAND, BUT MAY BE USED IN A PAIR IN MANY SPECIALTY HANDS. READ DESCRIPTION OF THE HAND CAREFULLY. JOKERS CAN ALWAYS BE USED IN A HAND UNLESS THE DESCRIPTION SAYS NO. YOU MAY USE AS MANY JOKERS AS YOU LIKE IN A RUN. YOU MUST HAVE ONE MORE NATURAL TILE THAN JOKERS FOR PUNGS & KONGS, THAT IS YOU CAN ONLY HAVE ONE JOKER IN PUNG OR KONG. EXPOSING A KONG WILL GET YOU A REPLACEMENT TILE FROM THE FLOWER WALL FOR QUINTS YOU MAY HAVE UP TO TWO JOKERS AND MAKING A KONG INTO A QUINT GETS YOU ONE REPLACEMENT TILE. EXPOSING A QUINT STRAIGHT UP OR ADDING TWO TILES TO AN EXPOSED PUNG WILL GET YOU TWO REPLACEMENT TILES. DISCARDED JOKERS CANNOT BE PICKED UP OFF THE TABLE. A DISCARDED JOKER IS ALWAYS A DEAD TILE. TRY TO ADD YOUR JOKER TO YOUR EXPOSED TILES AND TAKE A REPLACEMENT FROM THE FLOWER WALL INSTEAD. STOLEN JOKERS ERS: BEFORE YOU STEAL A JOKER YOU MUST TAKE A TILE FROM THE WALL OR PICK UP A DISCARD, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE THE INCORRECT NUMBER OF TILES IN YOUR HAND. AN EXPOSED JOKER CONTAINED IN A PUNG, KONG OR QUINT ON ANY PLAYERS RACK CAN BE STOLEN BY A PLAYER WHEN IT IS THEIR TURN BY EXCHANGING IT FOR THE TILE THE JOKER REPRESENTS - EVEN WHEN THE PLAYER IS PLAYING A CONCEALED HAND (BUT IN THIS CASE IT CAN ONLY BE TAKEN INTO THE PLAYER S HAND). YOU MAY USE THE STOL EN JOKER THEN & THERE OR PUT IT INTO YOUR HAND TO BE USED AT A LATER TURN. A PLAYER MAY EVEN STEAL THEIR OWN JOKER, USING IT ON AN EXPOSED ELEMENT OR TAKING IT BACK INTO HIS/HER HAND TO BE USED LATER.

QUINTS: QUINTS ARE FIVE OF A KIND MADE UP OF A PUNG & TWO JOKERS OR A KONG AND ONE 36. JOKER. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE THE QUINT ALL IN ONE GO, YOU MAKE EXPOSE A PUNG OR KONG AND ADD TO IT AS THE GAME PROGRESSES. YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE REPLACEMENT TILES FOR QUINTS JUST AS YOU DO FOR KONGS AS ALREADY EXPLAINED. MOST BEGINNERS FIND THEY HAVE THE WRONG AMOUNT OF TILES IN THEIR HAND UNTIL THEY MASTER THIS. FLOWER TILES: THE 16 FLOWER/SEASON TILES ARE CALLED COLLECTIVELY FLOWER TILES AND ARE ANOTHER HONOUR TILE. THEY CAN BE PAIRED, PUNGED, KONGED & QUINTED A DISCARDED FLOWER TILE IS THE EXCEPTION TO THE SEQUENCE OF DISCARD RULE. FIRST THE FLOWER TILE IS GIVEN TO THE PLAYER GOING MAH JONG. IF THIS IS NOT THE STAGE OF PLAY THEN THE NEXT PLAYER IN TABLE ORDER IS OFFERED THE FLOWER TILE AND SO ON AROUND THE TABLE UNTIL THE FLOWER TILE IS TAKEN UP & EXPOSED OR IS LEFT AS A DEAD TILE AS THE PLAY GOES ON. GAMES: THERE ARE NO CHOWS IN THE AMERICAN VARIANT BUT SOME HANDS DO HAVE RUNS HANDS CONTAIN VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF PAIRS, PURITY, ONE SUIT WITH HONOURS, TWO SUITS, THREE SUITS & DIRTY PAIRS THERE ARE ONE, TWO & THREE SUIT GAMES, CONSECUTIVE NUMBER AND HONOUR HANDS NEWS HANDS CONTAIN ONE OF EACH WIND. *REMEMBER * TO TAKE A REPLACEMENT TILE WHEN YOU EXPOSE NEWS HANDS CONTAIN THE WHITE DRAGON FOR ZERO AND EITHER 2, 1, 4 IN ONE SUIT OR 2, 1, 4 TILES ONE OF EACH SUIT. THE SUIT YOU USE FOR 2013 DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THE MAIN SUIT YOU ARE KEEPING. REPLACEMENT TILE WHEN EXPOSING YOU MAY HAVE ONE JOKER IN 2014 AND MUST RECEIVE A ADDITION AND MULTIPLICATION HANDS ALWAYS CONTAIN FLOWERS AND TWO PUNGS OF NUMBERS AND TILES TO REPRESENT THE SUM OF THEM BOTH. GAMES WITH THE NUMBERS 3, 6 & 9 ARE PART OF THE AMERICAN MAH JONG GAME LIST AS ARE GAMES WITH LIKE NUMBERS. DURING PLAY: CHECK THE TILE COUNT IN YOUR HAND REGULARLY DURING PLAY SO THAT YOU ARE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE 13 TILES INCREASING TO 14 WHEN YOU PICK UP OR GO MAH JONG. REMEMBER KONGS AND QUINTS COUNT AS THREE TILES WHEN EXPOSED ON YOUR RACK. CHECK YOUR OPPONENT S EXPOSED JOKER TILES TO SEE IF YOU HAVE THE TILES TO STEAL THEM AWAY WHEN IT IS YOUR TURN. REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR FISH TOKEN UP ON YOUR RACK TO INDICATE THAT YOU ARE FISHING. THERE ARE NO ½ LIMIT HANDS AND THE PAY FOR FISHING IS GENEROUS.

37. be bustrblibn VERSIEN EF THE bbericbn bbh beng GbbE: I have made the changes needed to the tradition bmerican Play in order for f a player, confident and grounded in the bustralian U3b/Western and the Chinese variants of bah bong to easily and logically decipher the rules and procedures of this challenging unique version. Sadly the bmerican game requires a different set of tiles using tiles instead of the Western game s and the Chinese game s 136. Eou cannot play Western or the bmerican version with a Chinese bah bong set due to the lack of Flower tiles, you can play the Western and Chinese variants with the Western bah bong set but you cannot play bmerican. With an bmerican bah bong set you can play all three types of bah bong. I have developed specialty hands depicting bmerican towns and cities to cover all the categories used by the bmerican bah bong bssociation without the need to learn a whole new set of games each year. The Eear Games just change ie from 2014 to These games and the rest of my Specialty Hands can be learnt, enjoyed and played year after year.

38. I have intended the bustralian variant of the bmerican bah bong Game to appeal to the intermediate to experienced bah bong Player looking for new challenges and seeking to increase their game skills while having a lot of fun. bmerican bah bong improves your Hand reading, making you able to decide quickly what tile to discard and what tile to keep to form and develop your hand. This variant also makes you more aware of the tiles in your opponents hand while you quest to steal that boker, and allows you to play new and fun games with elements of play not found in the Chinese and Western Games. There are many players who believe themselves to be purists and spend all their time playing one variant only, but I would say to them that being able to play and enjoy y all three forms of our challenging and ancient game, moving effortlessly from variant to variant, is the height of game play. bah bong is the perfect balance between creative strategy, mathematical ability and social enjoyment that will keep our minds suppler, smarter and healthier for longer. Use it or lose it - the choice is up to you. Whatever you favour, happy bah bonging to all, Linda Ilsley 2014
