2 The mercury in one fluorescent lamp can contaminate 7000 gallons of drinking water. 550 million lamps are taken out of service yearly And only 24% are recycled (RCRA of 1976) and EPA clearly states that spent Fluorescent and High Intensity Discharge (HID) Lamps are hazardous waste, and it is illegal to dispose them as a solid waste in the dumpster or compactor. Under the US-EPA regulations, fines can be up to $25, per occurence.

3 Starbeam Lighting Solutions is proud to announce a recycling program for fluorescent lamps, HID lamps, and ballasts that is SIMPLE to manage. We take care of all of it for you. We pick up your full cases of spent/used fluorescent lamps and ballasts when we deliver your order. It s that SIMPLE. We take care of each shipment from cradle to grave or pickup to recycle. You will receive, at time of pickup, documentation that we have picked up the lamps and when we invoice you we will provide proof that the lamps are being recycled. That ends your liability. It s that SIMPLE. The program again, have a full case, or two or three, of fluorescent lamps to recycle. Simply call us with the amount and types of lamps to be picked up. We do the rest. 4 Fluorescent and High Intensity Discharge (HID) Lamps All HID (High Intensity Discharge), fluorescent lamps, including compact fluorescent lamps, contain Mercury, a poison that cannot be destroyed. Simply call Starbeam to have your used lamps picked up. If we are delivering new lamps we waive the pickup charge for the used lamps and you will only be invoiced for the recycling fee. At the time of pickup you will receive a packing ticket. When you receive your invoice you will receive a Recycling Bill of Lading that releases you from all liability. Fluorescent and High Intensity Discharge (HID) Ballasts Some fluorescent and HID ballasts contain PCB s which are considered hazardous waste and therefore must be recycled. Starbeam will pick up all of your used ballasts at no charge when when we make a delivery to your location. We will sort the ballasts at our facility and bill you only for the PCB type ballasts PCB type ballasts are a very small percentage of ballast returns today due to the suspension of PCB manufactured ballasts in the early 1980 s.
