It is an oil processed in a way that most of the THC has been extracted out of the oil and does not contain the chemicals for which people desire for recreational or medicinal drug use. Some people claim the remaining properties in hemp oil offer more powerful medicinal and soothing properties when used topically that make it popular in the form of salves and lotions. There are some amazing claims out there about the medicinal uses of hemp oil. People all around the world stand by their home-made treatments for ailments like blood pressure, epilepsy, diabetes, AIDS, cancer, Parkinson s, and the list is endless. There are people who claim that

9 they are having results that are nothing short of miraculous. So, it s not surprise that we are increasingly getting requests for hemp oil products at our product tables at the farmer s markets. Remember, however, when you are making labels for your store shelves you cannot make these claims as facts. One of the active properties in the marijuana plant is the compound CBD, or cannabidiol. This is not the same as THC, the compound for which people smoke this plant. CBD and THC are two different compounds. CBD has been proven to treat inflammation, pain, anxiety, spasms, psychosis, PTSD, and other ailments that affect physical sensitivity. Understand that hemp oil containing CBD is not marijuana. It does not get people stoned. The oil has only trace amounts of THC. Both THC and CBD originate from the same plant, but marijuana is cultivated for the buds (which are harvested from that plant for that specific purpose). The CBD is extracted from the stalk and the seeds. These plant parts don t fall under the definition of what the U.S. government recognizes as marijuana. That's why the products are legal in all 50 states.

10 You can easily find hemp oil online and buy it directly from many reputable soap supply wholesale warehouses. Hemp oil is a more expensive oil, so you want to use it sparingly in your recipes. The most important thing to understand about your hemp seed oil is that it comes in many variations. Most hempseed oil does not contain CBD. Some does in small amounts. Some oil with high concentrations of CBD is labeled cannabis oil, and some cannabis oil, such as the oil used by Rick Simpson in his documentary Run from the Cure, also has THC as well as CBD. You need to read the labels and descriptions from your supplier so that you know exactly what you are buying. All of these oils are available if you look hard enough. All versions of oil can be used in all the recipes we have written for you.

12 Chapter 1: The Basics- Safety Check, Soap Supplies, Tools and Utensils Safety Check Safety is where it all starts. Soap making does come with warnings, and in this book, we will briefly discuss safety habits when working with lye. It is assumed that by the time you decide to make hemp oil products you have made several batches of soap before. The reason for this is because hemp oil and the ingredients we use in our recipes are not the cheapest from your supplier. Typically, when starting out, you want to avoid the most expensive oils until you start becoming more confident in your creations. If you are new to soap making, we recommend that you start with our beginner s books. You can seriously hurt yourself or others by making soap if you do not get into the habit of practicing safety. Start with a pair of safety glasses, and plastic gloves. Put on a long sleeve shirt, yes, button it up. Wear long pants. Wear socks. Soap batter splashes even when you are careful and the new batter will burn your skin.

13 Do yourself a favor and cover your skin properly even if you are the most careful person in the world. Bowls do spill, and you may mistakenly pick up a rag that you forgot you used to wipe batter from a surface. Accidents do happen. Do not eat, feed your animals, or even think about preparing food on any surface where you are making soap. Do not make soap over the dirty dishes in your sink. Contact with active lye causes chemical burns One of the main ingredients you need to use to make soap is lye. Usually you will be using Sodium Hydroxide, labeled NAOH. Sodium hydroxide is a caustic chemical. When ordering Lye for soap making from your supplier it will arrive in a white crystalline form in an air tight bottle. Contact with these crystals will not hurt you until they have been activated by moisture or water. Once mixed with water it becomes activated lye. The chemical change that occurs when you mix your lye solution is extream. The water temperature will heat and even boil. Getting this on you can possilby result in deep tissue burns. Getting a tiny splat in your eye can almost certainly result in

14 blindness. This is 100% preventable, so do not forget your safety glasses. Quenching a chemical burn is not attended the same way as a burn from a stove top or curling iron. Once the chemical makes contact it won t just stop burning if you rush for ice or water. There s a chance it will keep burning down into the tissue for several minutes so take your safety procedure very seriously. Keep Lye Out of Reach of Pets and Children. There is no treatment for the consumption of Lye. If you consume lye you may experience chemical burns internally throughout anywhere in your digestive tract. Sodium Hydroxide is also respiratory irritant. When making your lye solution, you will have your crystlas in a bowl and you will slowly add water. (You will always add the water to the lye, not the other way around) I always have this bowl sitting in the bottom of my sink to contain any possible splash. Keep a window open if you have one at your sink. You will stir the crystals, and you will see a white gas disperse from the top of the solution while you feel the temperature rise quickly against your

15 hand. At this moment, it will occur to you to step away because it only takes one warm breath of lye vapor before you find yourself gasping and feeling a burn in your chest. It's also possible that the fumes don t bother you too much but are only noticeable enough to open a window and move your head out of the way. For someone who is making a batch of soap regularly, this will irritate your lungs eventually and can increase the chance of respiratory infections. What do I need to make soap? The following is the absolute necessity to get started today. There are many selections of oils and herbs that can be added to your recipes. You want to get your ingredients at reputable soap supply stores. Oils can be bought anywhere. Your utensils can come from anywhere. There are three basic ingredients for soap oil, water, and lye. If you have nothing else, you can make soap. With a few specialized ingredients, you can turn plain practical creations into specialized products that you can add to your brand. You will need food grade lye, oils, colorants, and fragrances, Lye

16 Natural lye is made through a method of rinsing water through wood ash and collecting the run off. That s how the pioneers did it, but it s a bit complicated for what we want to do. Homemade lye can lead to impurities and takes a lot of work. You will buy food grade lye crystals in bulk from a soap maker resource. Some say that you can find 100% lye in your hardware store on the shelves sold as drain cleaner. If you look for your lye this way, make sure the label says 100% so that you don t get any chemical impurities in your soap batter. This will ruin your product. The recipes in this book assume that you know the basics in soap making. If you are unsure about how to make lye, please go back to our beginner s book: 90 Homemade Soapmaking Recipes Oils There are dozens of both animal and plant based oils. The byproduct of animal oils include lard from pigs, tallow from cattle, and beeswax from bees. There are dozens of plant based oils which you will learn later in the chapter. Each of the recipes in this book will include hemp oil. Hempseed oil can be mixed with any

17 oils to get soaps with different textures and hardness. Colorant Colorants can be natural herbs and plants, powdered micas, or liquid dyes. Using hempseed oil will not naturally turn your soaps green. You will need to add powdered cosmetic grade mica for the shade you want. Fragrances Your hemp seed oil products may not naturally have the deep earthy smell you may expect. The hemp seed oil will have a light fragrance, but if you want to enhance this smell you will need to buy an additional fragrance oil. Additionally, you can make hempseed oil products and fragrance them in any way you prefer. Butters Butters are the smooth moisturizing products you find in lotions. Added to soap that make for a soft luxurious product that will soften your skin and your buyers love. The most common butters in soap making are shea, coconut, and mango butter. The recipes that include butter in this book will be shea butter.

18 Kitchen Supplies that you will need Equipment (Everything that you can keep in a box under your sink, maybe) Safety Equipment Glasses Eye protection is the single most important item you must wear every time, no exceptions. Rubber glasses for the school science lab can be found at your local Walmart for about 4 dollars. Protect your eyes, you will need them to count your dollars after you sell your soap. Clothes Layer up. Wear long pants, blue jeans are best. Cover your ankles, wear socks and shoes. Wear a long sleeve shirt and button the cuffs. Button the collar. Google what a casual bee keeper looks like, that s what you should look like when you make soap. A Mask A painter s mask is fine. You can get a pack of four at Walmart for a few dollars. This is the same as a dust mask. It makes a huge difference. You ll be convinced the first time you get a breath full of lye vapor. Gloves Your hands and wrists are the most common place that you ll experience the power of the caustic burn. It ll happen eventually, even with

19 gloves. Chances are you will wipe up a few drops of lye batter from your counter during clean up, set your rag down, take off your gloves after clean up, and pick the rag up to toss it in the garbage. A box of 100 plastic gloves is 6 bucks. Scales & Measuring Equipment A digital scale is preferred because in some cases you will want to calculate down to the tenth of an ounce for your lye solution. You may also want to work in grams. The digital scale will be more helpful when your units of measurement are small. Make sure your batteries are fresh; dying batteries can be a nuisance. You will need a set of dry and liquid measuring cups and spoons. Most everything that is heat resistant and suitable for cooking is suitable for soap making. Pots and Pans Use separate pots and pans for soap making than for cooking. I use them for melting oils. If you use a technique where you are cooking lye in your pots or simply using them for making batter, you will need to keep them separate. The best place to buy pots for soap making is your local thrift store. You must use stainless steel.

20 Do not use aluminum, tin, cast iron, or anything that is non-stick. These metals can react badly even violently giving off toxic fumes when in contact with lye Utensils For stiring utensils, you will want stainless steel or silicone. Silicone are the easiest way to go because you can get them by the handfuls over at the dollar store. Plastic is fine. Wood may disintegrate after a while and cause splintering in your soap. It is recommended to stay away from wood. Plastic bowls are a necessity. You can buy a set of plastic nesting bowls at your local family dollar or Walmart. I use these religiously only for soap and mixing lye. They are different from any other color than any other bowl in the kitchen. They sit on a high shelf out of reach of convenience so that kids don t grab them to make cookies. A Crock Pot You only need a crock pot for making hot process soap. It is best to buy a large 8 qt. crock pot. I find them every time, hands down, at the Thrift stores. I have never paid more than 8

21 dollars for a crock pot and have several. When you cook soap with the hot process method it bubbles and expands, and one loaf always fills my 8-quart crock pot. You do not need to purchase a new crockpot for making soap. Blenders Stick Blender This is a hand-held blender that plugs into the wall. This is your best friend and most important tool in making soap. You will use it for everything and basically can t make a batch of soap without it. You can get a new stick blender at Walmart for 12 dollars. Kitchen Aid Mixer a kitchen aid mixer is an amazing tool in the kitchen. It is not necessary to have one of these to make bars of soap. Molds There are two different ways to go about molds. You can buy one, or you can make your own. I have seen people use cardboard postal boxes and shoe boxes as soap molds. You can buy commercial loaf molds online made from silicone that are the perfect size to cut into bars when your batter has hardened. These can run ten or twenty dollars, and you can find them on ebay, or Etsy, or a store that specializes in soap

22 supplies. Just google the keywords: silicone soap mold, and you will get the results you are looking for. Second, molds can also me wooden. These are just fine, and you will line them with wax paper when pouring your batter. You can find them online as well. If you don t want to wait for an online order you have other options. You can find silicone baking molds at your thrift store or neighborhood store. You can use individual molds or fancy cake molds; a bead mold works well also.

24 Chapter 2: Recipes Hemp Soap The first two soap recipes are hot process soap. These two recipes must be cooked for a few hours in your crockpot to completion. These will produce a translucent natural earthy looking bar. Once hot process soaps are finished cooking they are soaponified and ready to package, gift, and sell as early as 24 hours. There are two types of cannabis soap shoppers. There are the people who appreciate the medicinal properties of hempseed oil and buy it up as a nourishing soap. These customers are not necessarily looking for a soap that smells like pot, but these customers are looking for a natural or soothing fragrance. The other type of cannabis shopper are the young people who like it for the novelty. For these buyers, you want to make your soap bar as hempy as possible. Color it green, fragrance it with hemp fragrance oil, and maybe even pour your soaps into leaf shapes. 1. Soothing Natural Hemp Oil Soap (Fragranced for Men)

25 Olive Oil 20 oz. Coconut oil 26 oz. Lard 20 oz (Vegatable Oil can be substituted for vegan prefrences) Steric Acid 2 oz Hemp Oil 12 oz. Lye 11 oz. Water 22.6 oz. You will be mixing the oils in this recipe in two parts. The first part is the combination of oils that will combine with the lye. The second part is your super fats which will be 20 percent of your soap. Melt your oils in the crock pot. This recipe calls for a 7 ct. crock pot. If you are using a 4ct. crock pot cut this recipe in half. Beef, Lard, and Coconut make good hard soap bars, hemp adds to the bubbles and it is a trendy new choice for the younger crowd. Add your lye water to the oils and stil. Cook until the product gels and stir. Let this cook down for about 30 minutes until your soap cooks out of the gel stage to the soap stage. Remember, every crock pot heats a little differently so there is not set number of minutes it will take to cook your ingredients down to a soap stage. Still frequrntly to keep the edges from drying out. Soon you will get

26 a nice light green transluscent product. Let this cook down for a while longer. Now add the following oils to your crock pot. Before you add the cray mix it with enough water to turn it into a workable paste. This will keep it from clumping together while cooking. You can fragrance this product for men with a touch of winter pine fragrance oil to mix the deep earthy hemp smell with a masculine fragrance 7 oz of Hemp (you can substitute hemp for crushed hemp cereal available at whole foods. It is a perishable product that looks just like a cross between hemp buds and granola. You can also use dried camomile buds.) 4 oz. of shea butter 1 oz. of argon 1 oz olive oil ½ cup of benonite clay 2 table spoons of Glycerine 1 tea spoon of Vitamin E After blending these oils fully you are ready to mold your soap. Let the entire mixture cook for an hour. Continue to stir the paste and fold the dry sides toward the inside of the pot. After an hour, scoop your soap into its mold and let set for 24 hours.

27 2. Soothing Natural Hemp Oil Soap (Fragranced for Women) Olive Oil 20 oz. Coconut oil 26 oz. Lard 20 oz (Vegatable Oil can be substituted for vegan prefrences) Steric Acid 2 oz Hemp Oil 12 oz. Lye 11 oz. Water 22.6 oz. This is a similar recipe from the hot process above, but tweeked for a lighter more floral smell for the ladies. Again, you will be mixing the oils in this recipe in two parts. The first part is the combination of oils that will combine with the lye. The second part is your super fats which will be 20 percent of your soap. Melt your oils in the crock pot. This recipe calls for a 7 ct. crock pot. If you are using a 4ct. crock pot cut this recipe in half. Beef, Lard, and Coconut make good hard soap bars, hemp adds to the bubbles and it is a trendy new choice for the younger crowd. Add your lye water to the oils and stil. Cook until the product gels and stir. Let this cook down for about 30 minutes until your soap cooks out of the gel stage to the soap stage. Stir occasionally to keep

28 the edges from drying out. Soon you will get a nice light green transluscent product. Let this cook down for a while longer. Now add the following oils to your crock pot. It is helpful to get the bentonite clay mixed and wet to keep it from clumping together. There will be no need for fragrances since this recipe is already so moisturising. When adding pieces of flowers to your hot process soaps, do it at the very end just before you are ready to mold your soap. This will prevent the petals from deteriorating and burning into a brown sludge. Also add any fragrances after the soap has begun to cool to keep the fragrance oil from burning off. 7 oz of Hemp (you can add camomile flowers and yellow calendula flower petal look very pretty in this soap) 4 oz. of shea butter 1 oz. of argon 1 oz olive oil ½ cup of benonite clay 2 table spoons of Glycerine 1 tea spoon of Vitamin E.5 oz. of Love Spell (dupe) fragrance oil

29 After blending these oils fully you are ready to mold your soap. You can add any variety of floral fragrance oil for ladies. The fragrance in this recipe is half the amount you would use in a full batch so that you don t over power the hemp scent. If you want your product to smell like cannabis you can skip the floral product and go straight for the Hemp fragrance oil. The second two recipes are cold process soaps. There will be no cooking involved. Once the batter is made they will be poured and set to cure. These bars will produce a more vivid brightly colored product. They are not ready for use until they cave cured for at least 6 weeks. If you use them before a month, you will still have active lye which can irritate sensitive skin. The more novelty type hemps soaps are best made with the cold process style. You can easily pour the soap batter into molds with a better result, and the colors come out more vibrant. 3. Flower Power Hemp Bath Soap This recipe yields one loaf of 3 lbs. Approx. 11 bars. This recipe will give you a super fat of 5%. Remember, this means there will be extra oils floating in the bar.

30 18.24 oz. of Water 7 oz. of Lye 9.6 oz. of Hempseed Oil 9.6 oz. of Olive Oil 16.8 oz. of Coconut Oil 9.6 oz. of Lard (Vegetable Oil can be substituted for vegan preferences) 2.4 oz. of Shea Butter ¼ tsp. of Yellow Mica ½ tsp. of Green Mica Fragrance Hemp 2.5 oz. 3 teaspoons of Dried Hemp (you can nicely substitute dried chamomile buds: 3 teaspoons) This bar requires the basic assembly for the cold process. Melt your oils together in the microwave in short bursts. Add your oil to your lye solution leaving out the shea butter. Mix your shea butter after all your other oils are thoroughly mixed together with the lye. This will allow your shea butter to be the super fat. Add your fragrances. Split the batter into two parts. Color one half ivory yellow, and the other half pastel green. Add your hemp to the yellow half of the batter. Now you can layer the yellows and green in alternate layers. Swirl the two colors with a chopstick or spoon. Unmold after 24 hours.

31 4. The Dr. Is In Dispensery Special Hemp and Clay complement each other very nicely. This bar is a pink sea salt bar one side and soothing hemp oil on the other. This recipe yields one loaf of 1 lb. Adjust for your molds as necessary. A salt bar will not lather like a regular bar. It can be used for exfoliating depending on what kind of salt you choose. The clay will draw out impurities and is excellent for oily skin. This bar is a favorite for acne, and then doubling as an anti-inflammatory. This is our most medicinal recipe and should not be powerfully fragrant but does have a light melon which blends nicely with the hempseed oil. The bar does not last as long as a full soap bar, because the salt dissolves faster Water 6 oz. Lye 2.32 oz. Coconut 6 oz. Hemp Oil 10 oz. Vitamin E.32 oz. Kaolin Clay 4 oz. Pink Himalayan Salt ½ cup Sea Salt 8 oz. Fragrance Oil: Pomelo.5 oz. Pink Mica

32 Titanium Dioxide (White Colorant) Add your powdered clay to your melted coconut oil. Then mix your fragrance and titanium dioxide. Then add your vitamin E. Mix in your lye solution thoroughly once it has reached a temperature around 100 degrees. Your salt may melt a little bit, but it will harden the overall bar. Add your 8 oz. of sea salt. You can add up to 8 more oz. The recipe will depend on your preference of how much salt you want in your bar. Separate some of your soap batter into a separate bowl and add your pink mica. Pour the white batter into your mold and follow that with a free hand pour of the pink soap batter. Drop it right into the mold and using your chop stick or spoon give it a few good swirls to mix the pink into the whole bar. Finally, sprinkle the top with your pink Himalayan sea salt and let this mold sit for 24 hours. Your salt bars will become more brittle than your non-salt bars so be sure to cut these while they are still soft. Hemp Lotion Safety Note on Lotion Products: I have had customers at the markets question whether they

33 want to buy a lotion with preservative. Do not try to satisfy the demand for lotions with no preservative, instead try to explain that the preservatives used in these recipes are safe and must be included to ensure mold does not grow in any of the products. DO NOT SELL A LOTION WITH NO PRESERVATIVE. YOU DO NOT WANT THIS LIABILITY IF SOMEONE GETS AN INFECTION. Remember, not all people have a strong immune system. People who are looking for items with holistic medicinal properties might be cancer patients or sick in some way. It would be a terrible shame if someone were to rub some bacteria into their skin thinking they were promoting their health. The preservatives used in these recipes have been well researched, and I have no hesitation about using these products on my children. However, I will never purchase or use a lotion with no preservative.

34 Occasionally, if I am testing a new recipe and I am making a small amount I will omit the preservative. With these concoctions, I will only use them on myself and I consider them to be perfectly safe. If you do this, treat your product like you would food. Keep it refrigerated for reasonable preservation, and pitch it after a few days. 5. Summer Breeze Hemp Lotion Here is recipe for a light weight lotion. Light lotions are for day wear and warm weather. The oils you choose in your lotions will influence the feel and weight of your lotions. This light day lotion can be used for after the shower or just throughout the day. Hempseed oil products don t need to have a heavy fragrance, and you want to keep the scent light in warm weather. Melon fragrances blend beautifully with hemp oil and things that are lightly scented with hemp. What you will need: 14 oz. of Hempseed Oil 10 oz. of Coconut Oil 11.5 oz. of Grapeseed Oil 10 oz. of shea butter

35 .5 oz. of Vitamin E 10 oz. of E-wax 10 oz. of Beeswax 1.5 Of Summer Melon Fragrance Oil.5 grams of light sunshine yellow mica.4 oz. of Optiphen Melt all your hard oils down on the stove top and melt the beeswax into the oil. Do this slowly and allow the oils to melt without bringing the heat too high too quickly. Add your liquid oils and the mica. At this point you will want to use your stick blender to make sure the mica is completely mixed into your oils. Once the oils have begun to cool you can add the fragrance. 6. Healing Morning Lotion Here is a nice lotion with an almond and hemp fragrance. The mixture of hemp with a touch of almond has been reported as giving a wake up vibrant influence in the same way your early morning hazelnut coffee gets you ready to tackle the day. Vitamin E is a super-rich moisturizer. This is a small batch of lotion. It will fill 5 containers of 4 oz. almond creme lotion. It will have a light meringue/filling consistency.

36 What you will need: 12 oz. of aloe vera juice 3 oz. of hempseed oil 2 oz. of sweet almond oil 1 oz. of e-wax.5 oz. of shea butter.5 oz. of steric acid.5 oz. of vitamin E.4 oz. of Optiphen.5 oz. of almond vanilla fragrance oil.5 oz. of hemp oil fragrance.5 oz. of jojoba 1 gram of ivory glitter mica Sterilize your jars thoroughly by spraying them down with rubbing alcohol and wiping the moisture away from the lids and containers. Melt your hard oils and waxes together in short bursts in the microwave. Make sure you do not burn them. You just want enough heat to melt the waxes. Add your aloe juice to your liquid oils and the mica. Use your stick blender to make sure the mica is completely mixed into your oils. Once the oils have begun to cool you can add the fragrance and then preservative. Mix and fill your containers. One easy way to pour a thin liquid lotion is to use a small

37 kitchen funnel. You want to pour the lotion before it begins to thicken while it is still easy to pour. 7. Soothing Hemp Oil & Honey Night Cream This lotion is a very basic recipe for a denser heavier lotion. These thicker lotions are good for soothing dry skin, winter protection, and overnight wear. Any time the thicker butters are added you know this will be more than just a light summer moisturizer. This is the thickest lotion recipe that we recommend that still works well in a squeeze bottle. This will make 8 oz. of lotion. If you wish to thicken the lotion by adjusting the amounts of butters use 4 oz. wide mouth jars to fill your product instead of squeeze bottles. What you will need: 4.5 oz. of aloe Vera juice 1.5 oz. of shea butter 1 oz. of Hempseed oil.5 oz. of honey 12 grams of ewax 12 grams of steric acid 3 grams Germall plus

38 .25 oz. of honey fragrance oil Instructions: Melt your waxes and oils together first and the liquid product to your aloe vera juice. Mix well will a stick blender to make sure your product is completely emulsified. Allow your lotion to cool before adding your and fragrance and preservative. This recipe will make one eight-ounce bottle. You should pour it into your bottle and let is stiffen. This process can take about minutes. Take your time and keep your area clean as you go along. This product must stay sterile. Note: The aloe vera juice is the kind that you can buy in the gallon jar at your local Walmart. This is processed differently than if you squeeze an aloe plant. You can substitute the aloe juice for water in this recipe for a lighter texture lotion. 8. Soothing Hemp Oil & Oatmeal Milk Winter Lotion - This recipe is a great night cream or cold weather moisturizer. The heavy consistency is perfect to sooth chapped winter skin. There is not oatmeal in this lotion, but named Oatmeal Milk for the terrific fragrance oil. This is the thickest lotion we recommend that still works well in a squeeze bottle. This will make

39 8 oz. of lotion. You can multiply the recipe depending on how many bottles you wish to fill. What you will need: 4.5 oz. of aloe Vera juice 2 oz. of shea butter 1 oz. of Hempseed oil 12 grams of ewax 12 grams of steric acid 3 grams Germall plus.25 oz. of oatmeal milk fragrance oil Instructions: Melt your waxes and oils together first and the liquid product to your aloe vera juice. Mix well will a stick blender to make sure your product is completely emulsified. Allow your lotion to cool before adding your and fragrance and preservative. Pipe your product into your bottles and set aside for your labels to be applied. This process can take about minutes. Take your time and keep your area clean as you go along. This product must stay sterile. Note: Some people like colloidal oats in this recipe. If you want the lotion to have a thicker drier texture you can add ½ cup of finely ground colloidal oats. This will

40 be added at the very end of the recipe and should be ground to a fine dust. Hemp Skin Salve 9. Soothing Decongestant Salve One of the things we classify as a lotion, but could fall into other categories is the save-the-baby like salve that your mother used to rub into your chest when you were stuffy. This is usefully on your market table and when making it you mix many of the same ingredients and package it similarly so we have put it with our lotions. What you will need: 16 of Virgin Olive Oil 4 oz. of Hempseed Oil 10 oz. of finely ground dried hemp 4 oz. of Beeswax.5 oz. of Optiphen.5 oz. of Hemp oil fragrance Grind the dried plants down into a fine powder in the blender. Pour the 2 cups of Olive oil into a glass mason jar. Fill a pot of water about 4 inches on the stove top and let it simmer. Place your glass jar of olive oil in the simmering water and allow your oil to heat. Add your spice powder and give it a good mix. Allow the oil to stay in the water for about 20 minutes. You can

41 allow this spice to infuse into your oil over night if you like. The beeswax should be melted at low temperature and drizzled into the herbal infusion. Mix well with your blender. Allow the combination to cool, but before it becomes hard add your preservative and mix with your stick blender. Pour this salve into your containers before it has completely cooled. You can use tin 2 oz. containers, or you can use 4 oz. plastic jars with lids. Add the fragrance in the amount of your liking. Hemp Shampoo & Conditioner With our shampoo recipes, we write them with the shampoo already made from a base shampoo that you can get in bulk from your local soap supplier. Many people who make varieties of shampoos with fragrances and additives purchase the base shampoo already made and design their product from there. The following recipes are written this way. However, you can substitute the base shampoo in any of these recipes with your own homemade shampoo recipe. Making a liquid shampoo base is not simple. If you are a beginner, we do not recommend that you start making liquid soap until you have more experience with bar soap. If

42 you are more advanced and want to make the shampoo base for yourself, we have added our base shampoo recipe at the back of this book. The recipe assumes you know how to make liquid soap. 10. Coconut Milk Shampoo This shampoo will offer the light scent of coconut while giving the silky feel of coconut and argon oil. Coconut milk is very nourishing for hair and will make dry hair softer without the oily residue. What you will need: 15 oz. of your pre-made shampoo base 8 oz., of white coconut milk.3 oz. of argon oil.5 oz. of hempseed oil.5 oz. of liquid Germall plus.5 oz. of hemp fragrance oil 1 gram of light green mica When you open the can of coconut milk you may find that the light watery liquid has separated from a thick solid fat. Blend these back together before adding this to your soap base. The consistency will be a white creamy coconut milk.

43 Blend the coconut milk, your shampoo base, and the oils together. Add the preservative and blend together with you stick blender. Add the fragrance oil and blend again. This recipe will make 24 oz. of shampoo. 11. Coconut Milk Conditioner This is the matching conditioner to previous shampoo. This shampoo is geared toward the younger customer who is looking for the pretty candy like product. We often make some of our matching soap cupcakes in the matching fragrance oil to go along with this shampoo and conditioner combination. (See the soap cupcake recipe in book 1) This is a very basic recipe that is for all hair types. What you will need: 30 oz. of Distilled Water 2 oz. of Vegetable Glycerin 2 oz. of Hempseed Oil 1 oz. of shea butter 2 oz. of BTMS 25.5 oz. of Liquid Germall Plus 1 gram of light green mica 1 oz. of hemp oil fragrance

44 Before you begin make sure your bottles are sprayed down with rubbing alcohol on the counter tops are sterilized. We only use distilled water to prevent any impurities from entering our products. First melt your wax and shea butter over a low heat on the stove top. Add the glycerin and extra virgin olive oil. Add the water. Mix well with your stick blender. You will need to mix this for about three minutes. This will give the emulsifying wax time to bond the water and oil together. If you see any separation continue to blend until it looks smooth. Continue mixing with your stick blender. Remove the heat from your conditioner and continue mixing as the product cools. Once the conditioner has cooled add the preservative and fragrance oil now, and mica, and mix well again. Your product is ready to bottle. Note: When making conditioner for your hair you may want to experiment with the amount of oil you use. If you live in a very humid area use a little less oil, and in a dry area use the recommended recipe. Humidity and environment can affect the results of this product and you need to test it a little to be happy with your results. I sell this product perfectly in the Boston area and it works

45 beautifully. If you live in Florida or Arizona your results might vary. 12. Summer Hemp Light Sage Shampoo This shampoo will offer the light scent of natural sage while giving the silky feel of luxurious hempseed and argon oil. Remember not everyone who wants a hemp oil product wants to smell like mary-jane. What you will need: 15 oz. of your pre-made shampoo base 8 oz., of liquid aloe juice.3 oz. of argon oil.5 oz. of olive oil.5 oz. of liquid Germall plus.5 oz. of sage fragrance oil 1 gram of sage mica When you open the can of coconut milk you may find that the light watery liquid has separated from a thick solid fat. New England Winter Body Butter In New England we have a few months with both cold wet and cold dry weather. Dry scaly skin is a common effect of the cold temperatures in the east, especially along the shore line with the salt sea air. For seasons

48 like this you may need a thick shea based body butter that soaks right into the skin and doesn t leave a waxy build up. What you will need: 37 oz. of Shea Butter 20 oz. of Coconut Oil 11.5 oz. of Hempseed Oil 10 oz. of Jojoba Oil 10 oz. of Argon Oil 10 oz. of Beeswax.5 Of Sandalwood Fragrance Oil 1 oz. of Winterberry Fragrance Oil Melt all your hard oils down on the stove top and melt the beeswax into the oil. Do this slowly and allow the oils to melt without bringing the temperature too high. Add your liquid oils. This butter will make a thick light colored butter moisturizer. The fragrances we suggest for this recipe are great for rich winter and Christmas scents, but you can experiment with anything you prefer. When packaging this recipe, you will want to spoon this butter into a 4 or 8 oz. jar with a wide mouth screw top lid. It is too thick for a squeeze bottle. When you finish this recipe, it might seem logical to put it into a lotion bottle, but it will thicken as it sets.

49 The Hemp Bubble Bar Bubble bars are a new bath item made popular by a trendy luxury bath store. They come in a roll or in slices like a pinwheel cake and have the texture of playdough. These items are fun, last a while, and add a little variety to your product line. 15. Sweet Pleasure: Bubble Bar The recipe for the Solid Bubble Bath is: 7 oz. Liquid Glycerin 1 oz. Castor Oil 1 oz. of Hempseed Oil 0.4 oz. Oatmeal Milk Fragrance 0.3 oz. Sage Fragrance Oil 10.1 oz. Baking Soda 7.4 oz. Cream of Tarter 2.7 oz. Corn Starch 0.6 oz. Tapioca Powder 5.8 oz. SLSA (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate) 12 ml Yellow Liquid Colorant 15 ml Green Liquid Colorant If you are making this product for yourself a few drops of food coloring can substitute for any liquid

50 soap colorant. Although, liquid soap colorant can be found at nearly all your large craft stores as well as online. First mix your castor oil, liquid glycerin, and fragrance oil in one bowl. The sage gives you the herbal scent that people appreciate mixed with the oatmeal milk fragrance that makes the sage a little sweeter. We always have terrific luck at our market tables with this fragrance combination. Mix them completely and set this bowl aside. Next, mix the baking soda, cream of tartar, corn starch, and then the tapioca powder. Finally, mix your SLSA into your dry ingredients. Carefully mix this so that you don t get dust everywhere. With gloves add your wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix carefully and thoroughly and kneed with your hands until you have a firm dough consistency. Now that your dough is ready, divide your dough in half and mix your two colors into each part. Remember to change your gloves in you need to, you don t want to contaminate your colors. Once your doughs are colored, spread out a piece of wax freezer paper and start with your first color. Sprinkle a little baking soda on the wax paper and

51 work your first color out and pat it down flat like cookie dough. Then, place the second color on top and work it down as a second layer. Once these are flattened, carefully roll the two pieces into a roll. You will need to peel the wax paper as you go along. Now your bubble bar is ready to cut into pieces. Let these pieces sit out to dry for a few days for a firm but still soft texture. 16. Its High Time for Bubbles The recipe for the Solid Bubble Bath is: 7 oz. Liquid Glycerin 1.3 oz. Castor Oil.5 oz. of Hempseed Oil 0.7 oz. Sweet Hemp Fragrance 10.1 oz. Baking Soda 7.4 oz. Cream of Tarter 2.7 oz. Corn Starch 0.6 oz. Tapioca Powder 5.8 oz. SLSA (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate) 12 ml Blue Liquid Colorant 15 ml Green Liquid Colorant 2 teaspoons of finely crushed dried hemp leaves or chamomile buds

There is a little hempseed oil, but not in the amounts like the soap or lotions where there will be medicinal properties. If you choose to blend the mica it will give a little shimmer to your skin. Hemp Sugar Scrub 19. Emulsifying Sugar Scrub with Summer Melon This is an anhydrous sugar scrub. You can make very large batches of this scrub, split them at the end of your process, and add different colorants and fragrances. Here we have created a light summer fragrance that the ladies love.

57 What you will need: 6 oz. of Hempseed Oil 25 oz. of Coconut Oil 80 oz. of Sugar 4 oz. of Tahitian Rain Fragrance Oil 25 grams of Optiphen 4 oz. of E-wax 3 oz. of steric acid 2 oz. of beeswax ¼ teaspoon of pink mica colorant Melt down your oils if they are solid. (Putting your coconut oil in the microwave is perfectly fine.) Melt down your beeswax, steric acid, and e-wax. Add all the liquids together. Add your fragrance and preservative only after the liquids are cool. Add your sugar to the entire mixture. You just want to add enough sugar to get the consistency that you want. If you want your scrub to be a little bit runny then you will use a little bit less sugar. Mix this well and add your mica to tint the product a light melon pink. This sugar scrub will emulsify in the shower so you it will wash off nicely and not leave too much oil behind on the skin.

58 20. Sugar Soft Scrub Cubes These sugar scrub cubes are solid cubes that are used in the bath. They are meant to hold in your wash cloth and used to exfoliate by hand. These can stay next to your soap and will last a little while if they are kept in a place that is drained and out of direct contact with water. What you need: 3 oz. of Hempseed Oil 12 oz. of Coconut Oil 40 oz. of sugar 2 oz. of Forest Comfort Fragrance Oil 12 grams of Optiphen 2 oz. of E-wax 1.5 oz. of steric acid 12 oz. of beeswax ¼ teaspoon of blue mica colorant Melt your waxes into a liquid form. Mix these items well and spoon them into a silicon ice tray. Press down firmly until each square is packed tightly. You will notice that the product hardens over time. It is best to leave overnight before unmolding Packaging for this product is best in 8 and 16 oz. jars. When making sugar scrubs it is easy to make too much product and then end up with too
