Standardisation Standardisation is EXTREMELY important for the candle industry: Filling the numerous blank spots in legislation with substance in the candle industry s best interest Establishing facts to avoid involvement of EU and national authorities Standards are developed by experts for these products and work in practice Establishing a level playing field for both domestic candle manufacturers and third country producers exporting to the EU Increasing consumer safety Reducing the risk of erratic Court Decisions Products complying with quasi-harmonised standards trigger an assumption of safety Standardisation should be TOP PRIORITY for candle industry! Standardisation - Commission Decision / Mandate EU Commission Decision / future Standardisation Mandate Discussion of safety requirements in the Consumer Safety Network (CSN) and GPSD Committee (Dec Jun. 2015) Member State representatives accept the draft CD (Oct. 2015) European Parliament and Council accept the draft (Feb. 2016) COM publishes the CD -> NOT done yet, expected in??? COM issues a Standardisation Mandate to CEN -> 6 months after publication of CD CEN develops standards -> typical timeline for new standards is 3 years, i.e. first new quasi-harmonised standards published in 2021 Important: The safety requirements are not legally binding, only the standards transposing them are!
