4 Cover Up! A Doubles Game How to Play Roll a 10-sided die. Multiply your number by 2. You need ~ 10 sided dice ~ Counters (2 different colors) Find it on the grid and cover it in your color. Partner 2 gets a turn. The first one to have 4 in a line wins! Roll a 0 and lose a turn! Adapted from Mastering the Basics

5 Double or Double-Double Pick a factor from the Factor Box. Double it (multiply by 2) or double-double it (multiply by 4). Find the product below and cover it in your colour. Four in a row wins! Factor Box Adapted from BEAM

6 Doubles and Halves for 2 players When it s your turn Roll the dice and say the number. Put a counter on: ~ the number the dice shows, or ~ double that number, or ~ half of that number (if the answer is a whole number). Sample Game The end of the game Go on until all the counters are used up. Whoever makes you need: ~ 1-20 dice or spinner ~ 10 counters each, in your own colour the longest straight line wins the game. Rules ~ Only one counter on a square ~ If all the available spaces are full, roll the dice again until you can find a space ~ A line can go sideways, or up and down, or diagonally Paul rolled a 7. He could cover 7 or 14, but not 3 1/2. He put it on 14, completed a line of four, and won the game Adapted from BEAM

7 Doubles in a Row How to Play - The first person rolls the dice. you need: ~ 10 sided dice ~ 30 double-sided counters (15 in one colour, 15 in another colour) Double the dice roll and put your coloured counter on that number on the grid. Each person needs to try to get three in a row to win

8 Stack em up for 4 for 2 players Choose who will have which colour counters Take turns to roll the dice and multiply the dice number by 4 If you answer correctly, place one of your counters in the box under the answer If there is already a counter in the box (either your own, or the other players), place your counter on top of the pile Whoever s colour counter is on top owns the pile Keep going taking turns until each player has put their 20 counters in the boxes. Each player then carefully removes all the piles where the top counter is their colour Each player then counts how many counters they have altogether (of both colours) The winner is the player with more counters you need: ~ 40 counters (20 in one colour, 20 in a different colour) ~ 1-10 dice Adapted from BEAM

10 Stack em up for 3 for 2 players How to Play ~ Roll the dice ~ Multiply the number shown by 3 and place a cube or a tile in the box beside the product ~ If there is already a cube in the box, stack your cube on top of the one that is already there. When all the cubes are played, look at the stacks. You win any stack that has your colour on the top of the pile. ~ Count all the cubes (or tiles) in your collection. The person with the most cubes wins. you need: ~ 30 unifix cubes or colour tiles (15 in one colour, 15 in another colour) ~ 10 sided dice (0-9) Adapted from BEAM

11 Thinking About Tens - 4 in a Row How to Play Both students start with the same number of cards. You need ~ Playing cards ~ 2 different colored counters Keep your cards face down in a pile in front of them. Player 1 flips over one card and lays it on the table face-up. Multiply it by ten and say the product Cover that number on the gameboard with your color. Player 2 then takes a turn. The first player with 4 in a row wins

16 Square Number Capture How to Play Each player chooses a color. Player 1 rolls the die. You Need: ~ 1-6 dice ~ 2 different color whiteboard markers Number showing tells the dimensions of the square. Draw the square in your color. Record the number sentence and its product. Player 2 takes a turn. Play until 1 person cannot record a square. Adapted from Mastering the Basics

17 Four in a Line for 2 players When it s your turn Choose a number from the box. Double it or multiply it by 4. Put a counter of your color on the answer on the grid. If you want, mark which number you used though you may use it again later. The end of the game Go on playing like this until one of you has made a line of four counters in your color.
