Star Gazing: A big dark sky with lots of stars is a memorable part of the Weekapaug experience. Join the Naturalist after dark to spot the moon and planets through our computerized telescope. Naturalist s : These walks will go along the inner or outer part of the barrier beach, or along the rocky ocean shoreline. Tide stage and weather conditions will factor in the selection of route. Naturalist will point out interesting sights and talk about the flora and fauna of the Rhode Island coast. Birding by Van: Our naturalist conducts a n hour-long tour around local marshes looking for migrating birds. Check Fish Traps: Our naturalist is monitoring fish traps in the salt Pond as part of a Nature Conservancy research project. Ride along and see what comes up in the pots! Tour Weekapaug in : Take in the views and lovely lanes of Weekapaug in our open-air electric car. Half-hour tour.. room for five passengers. Seal Outing: October is when we start to spot seals in the salt pond. Join Capt. Mark for a quick ride out to see if they are sunning on their favorite rocks. Guides: The following guides are available at the front desk: Local jogging and biking maps. Points of interest map covering Mystic, CT to Newport, RI. Walker s guide to downtown Westerly. This month D&V International Imports, which specializes in Belgian beers. Oysters & Champagne: The salt ponds along our coast are home to a dozen oyster farms. During this event we will serve a variety of shucked oysters and offer instruction to those who would like to try their own hand at shucking. Oyster appetizers will be passed and our sommelier will offer wine pairings and discuss why certain wines and sparklers go so well with these delectable mollusks.
