2 Every year, MAISON&OBJET provides a stage for six up-andcoming designers, offering them a chance to present their work to professionals from around the world. For the upcoming MAISON&OBJET PARIS show, held 2-6 September 2016, a selection of six emerging French design talents will have the opportunity to showcase their work on a space entirely dedicated to them, in Hall 7. For the September 2016 show, MAISON&OBJET PARIS has invited Les Ateliers de Paris* to celebrate their 10th anniversary. MAISON&OBJET has selected six designers for the Rising Talents, all former or current residents of Les Ateliers de Paris showing particularly promising creative initiative. Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, comments: "This year, Les Ateliers de Paris are celebrating their tenth anniversary, marking ten years of supporting and promoting budding projects that exemplify Paris creative vitality. Selecting these six young designers as the Rising Talents for the September 2016 MAISON&OBJET PARIS is a wonderful way of bringing them more visibility and recognizing this incubator, initiated by the City of Paris. Paris takes on the challenge of creativity. And an event like MAISON&OBJET is a excellent illustration of this." The September 2016 MAISON&OBJET PARIS Rising Talents: AC/AL Studio, France Charlotte Juillard, France Pierre Charrié, France Studio Monsieur, France Désormeaux/Carrette, France Julien Vermeulen, France Upcoming events: MAISON&OBJET PARIS 2-6 september 2016 PARIS DESIGN WEEK 3-10 september 2016 MAISON&OBJET ASIA 7-10 march 2017 MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS 9-12 may 2017 * A major advocate for the advancement of creative trades, Les Ateliers de Paris provide support to art, fashion and design professionals.
3 AC/AL Studio Chantapitch Wiwitchaikamol AC/AL is a design studio established in Paris in 2013 by Amandine Chhor and Aïssa Logerot, two graduates from ENSCI Les Ateliers. Amandine Chhor has worked with a number of design studios, including Mathieu Lehanneur, before joining Hermès creative department for four years. After he graduated, Aïssa Logerot worked as a freelance designer for four years, collaborating with various brands and studios, including Bruno Moinard, Mathieu Lehanneur and architect Dominique Perrault. In 2015, the collaboration between the two designers was recognised by a VIA Label for the Trame chair, produced by Petite Friture. Between 2009 and 2012, Amandine and Aïssa often collaborated on artisan development programmes in countries such as Cameroon, Cambodia and Morocco. Diamond shelf, design by AC/AL Studio AC/AL Studio Épure coat hanger AC/AL Studio Today, the studio s work focuses mainly on collaborative product and furniture design projects that reconcile industry and craftsmanship. Thanks to their complementary skills, they are able to design objects that strike a balance between function, technical performance and shape. Proof of this is the Épure collection created for Kann Design, which is inspired by the minimalistic outline of geometrical drawings and uses the line to provide structure, create a pattern and generate function. 4 Charlotte Juillard Karoline Bordas After an exchange year studying industrial design at UDEM (Montréal University) in 2008, Charlotte Juillard graduated in 2011, receiving high praise for her graduation project named Morphose, produced in collaboration with the Manufacture de Sèvres. The next year, she joined La Fabrica Benetton s research and development centre in Treviso, Italy and worked under Sam Baron. There, she developed various projects, including the Paralumi pendant light for Seletti, as well as an installation for the prestigious Italian brand Molteni. After she had returned to France, Charlotte Juillard joined Les Ateliers de Paris in 2014 and decided to establish her own studio, working on a variety of projects ranging from object design to scenography. She is currently collaborating with a number of clients such as Monoprix and Ligne Roset. For the latter, she designed the Brina desk, launched in 2015, as well as a number of new pieces to be unveiled at the September 2016 MAISON&OBJET PARIS show. She also creates and distributes limited edition and small series pieces, such as the Echoes speaker and a collection of vases named Les Brodées, all handmade one-off pieces. Echoes Inspired Sound Charlotte Juillard At the September show, Charlotte Juillard will be showing a new collection named Lavastone, which highlights the qualities of lavic stone extracted from quarries in the region around Naples. With this project, her intention is to combine the raw quality of the material with feminine design and sensitivity. 5 Pierre Charrié Damien Arlettaz Since he graduated from ENSCI Les Ateliers and the Nîmes Higher School of Fine Arts in November 2008, Pierre Charrié has acquired significant experience in product design, collaborating with various design agencies such as Normal Studio. As a result, he has developed two complementary approaches to his activity. By questioning technologies and their emerging usages, he investigates the sensory dimension of daily-life objects. He is particularly interested in the way sound, movement and touch engage the user and initiate a form of tangible interaction with the object. Rhombes 3D renderings by Pierre Charrié His projects have earned him various awards. He received the Silver Design Award from Futur en Seine in 2014 for his much-acclaimed Aérobie lamp, which also became part of the permanent collection at the CNAP museum in Now in residence at Les Ateliers de Paris, Pierre Charrié continues on his path to success and was recently awarded the Grand Prize for Creativity by the City of Paris, in the design category. Campanes Lise Gaudelaire He has collaborated with master featherworker and fellow Rising Talent Julien Vermeulen to create Nuto, a fragrance diffuser produced by Galerie MICA. Designed as a long swaying stalk that commands contemplation, it consists of a marble base, a carbon stem and a feather made of starched and handdyed ostrich down. When sprayed with fragrance, the feather naturally absorbs the scent and then releases it as it rocks back and forth in a slow, hypnotic motion. As a result of his collaboration with the brand Galerie MICA, Pierre Charrié imagines objects that combine smart and original design. Examples include the Campanes tables and the Pénates home sculptures, which will both be showcased at the September 2016 MAISON&OBJET PARIS. Pinceau Damien Arlettaz Pénates Lise Gaudelaire
6 Studio Monsieur Fabrice Schneider Studio Monsieur is a design studio, which was founded by Manon Leblanc and Romain Diroux in Manon Leblanc is a graduate of École Estienne, who trained in product design at the Design Academy Eindhoven and at the Strasbourg Higher School of Decorative Arts, from which she graduated in After a scientific training, Romain Diroux switched to another field of study and graduated from the Strasbourg Higher School of Decorative Arts in Soon after they met in 2012 and decided to establish Studio Monsieur, both designers agreed to focus their work on practical objects and on honouring industrial and artisanal know-how. Hors Série table Hors pistes, Fabrice Schneider Silex ball Guy Rebmeister It was not long until their creations earned them recognition. In 2012, they were awarded a grant from the Fondation de France, and in 2015 they received the Grand Prize for Creativity from the City of Paris. The studio s know-how has made it possible for them to be admitted for residency at Les Ateliers de Paris from 2014 to They have taken this opportunity to develop their creativity and gain multidisciplinary experience by taking part in projects involving object, furniture and lighting design, as well as exhibition and concert scenography. The manufacturing process, the variety of tools and the movements that go along with each of them are their primary sources of inspiration. 7 Désormeaux/Carrette Colombe Clier Désormeaux/Carrette Studio is the union of two industrial product designers, Nathanaël Désormeaux and Damien Carrette (established in 2014). The studio s specificity resides in the modern designs that emerge from their complementary know-how. Paddock Chair Cinna DCS Since they met during their first year, in 2006, Nathanaël Désormeaux and Damien Carrette have not parted ways. After a Master s in industrial design from Strate College, they settled down in London for two years. Each of them made his way into his own world: Nathanaël Désormeaux delved into British design and innovation, while Damien Carrette chose a more decorative, design-oriented studio. Their technical and creative skills complement each other. The industrial know-how of Nathanaël Désormeaux and Damien Carrette s artistic approach are a perfect fit. Through their vision, they advocate for new usages of materials and production processes. The result is sensitive and personal, much like the Dita lamp, launched in 2014, which was directly inspired by fashion. Made from felt offcuts, the lamp features an intriguing zipper, which allows the user to change the direction of the light. To make sure their ideas become reality, the two designers are not afraid of putting them to the test of industrial limitations. They surround themselves with a variety of professionals (industrial manufacturers, technicians, etc.) to ensure that their projects are viable. The Knot chair created in 2015 was the result of such determination. With two interlocking frames assembled without screws or bolts, this seat illustrates how they combine design and technology. 8 Julien Vermeulen Julien Vermeulen In 2013, Julien Vermeulen studied at the Lycée Octave Feuillet, the last public school to deliver a diploma in plumasserie (featherwork) in France. In 2014, he launched his own company, after completing a fashion design training from École Duperré in Since 2014, he has gone on to lend his skills to great names of the couture industry, such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Schiapatelli, Valentino, Boucheron, Vauthier, etc. Julien Vermeulen creates entire concepts, offering his stylistic vision as a master featherworker, which in turn inspires artistic creations. With particular focus on the material dyed, twisted, burned with acid, etc., he creates fashion pieces and window displays, as well as contemporary objects, such as his insects and frames. The two frames that will be presented at the September 2016 MAISON&OBJET PARIS explore feathers as a medium. Much like paint, feathers come in all colours, but they can also have metallic sheens, glossy or matt effects; they interact with light like no other material. Insects, samples Julien Vermeulen His samurai armour Bado Senshi is a testament to the possibilities of featherwork, when applied to a large piece. Julien Vermeulen s nomination for the 2015 City of Paris Grand Prize for Creativity, in the arts and crafts category, has given him the opportunity to join the residency programme at Les Ateliers de Paris.
