1 ASP XIII cycle Winter School 2018 Loano (SV), Italy March, SYLLABUS Course Title Objectives Industry 4.0: How the fourth industrial revolution will change the manufacturing environment In the last decades, the manufacturing ecosystem witnessed an unprecedented evolution of disruptive forging new opportunities for manufacturing companies to cope with the ever-growing market pressure. Moreover, the race to create value for the customers has been hindered by several issues that both small and large companies have been facing, such as shorter product life cycles, rapid time-to-market, product complexity, cost pressure, increased international competition, etc. In this scenario, ICT represents a crucial enabler for preserving competitiveness and fostering industry innovation. The European Union is committed to increase the industry contribution to GDP up to 20% by 2020, given the great manufacturing potential for growth and job creation. The challenge is to ensure that all the industrial sectors will be able to make the most out of the new emerging and manage their transition towards higher-value, digitized products and processes, commonly gathered under the name of "Industry 4.0". In this scenario, this School has the objective of introducing ASP students to the content of digital technology application in manufacturing environment (Smart Manufacturing or Industry 4.0) from an academic, political and industrial perspective. More specifically, it aims at drawing their attention towards the challenges that must be addressed when studying, driving and including digital innovation in products, processes and business models. From an academic perspective, it will deliver some key elements addressing the new skills and technical competences required to face with the organizational and technological changes digitization envisions. From a cultural perspective, the course has the objective to show how different governmental entities are planning to support manufacturing companies moving them towards the digitization of their processes. In particular, the main relevant national initiatives regarding Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing topic will be presented and compared, showing the different actions each Government is working on. From a practical perspective, the course has the objective to: - Create awareness on Industry 4.0 topic in order to facilitate the understanding of the potentialities related to the new, smart and sustainable manufacturing of the future; - Spread in a systematic and organic way the key elements enabling the new industrial revolution, from the new production to the digital ones; - Provide concrete instruments to improve manufacturing processes efficiency and effectiveness; - Create and consolidate multidisciplinary competences.
