EN Distributed Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Future in touch at CeBIT 2014 on March, 10th to 14th, Hall 9, Booth A 44
Distributed Artificial Intelligence Laboratory The DAI-Labor and the associated chair "Agent Technologies in Business Applications and Telecommunications" of the Technische Universität Berlin, headed by Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Sahin Albayrak, focuses on research and development of intelligent services and systems to deal with current and future challenges of society. Research at DAI-Labor is distributed across different areas, ranging from investigation of the foundations of distributed systems and machine learning, to enhancing security in networks and interactive systems. As different as the research foci are, they nevertheless share a common goal: Research results must be touchable and realizable. To this end, research at DAI-Labor is embedded into a wide range of software tools and frameworks, models and methodologies, which are also deployed successfully outside of the university. Our track record includes numerous successful industry, federal and internationally funded projects, which are used to gain new research insights, to develop and apply new methods, and to make results directly usable.

Research-oriented Centers Research at the DAI-Labor is done in competence centers. These competence centers provide the scientific grounding and results, offer their expertise in different research fields, and use this to develop systems solutions in different application centers. CC ACT Agent Core Technologies... works on agent-oriented technologies and develops DAI-Labor s agent-framework JIAC. CC COG Cognitive Architectures and Usability... looks into open questions from areas such as artificial intelligence, cognitive science and robotics. CC IRML Information Retrieval and Machine Learning... performs research on technologies for information access using information retrieval and machine learning methods. CC NEMO Network and Mobility... works on seamless communication in next generation heterogeneous telecommunication networks. CC NGS Next Generation Services... performs research on elementary requirements as personalization, usability, device-independence and location-based services. CC SEC Security... performs research on and develops innovative, intelligent security solutions to meet future security challenges.
System-oriented Centers The application centers of the DAI-Labor provide a platform for the development of interdisciplinary systems solutions that cross the boundaries of single competence centers. The application centers combine and focus synergies and generate research results that directly or indirectly benefit the user. Smart Energy Systems... develops ICT and software solutions for efficient and sustainable energy logistics and consumption. Smart Government Services... develops software solutions for Citizens and Authority with the goal of a modern civic-centric administration. Preventive Health... focuses on services that support the users with their health care, preservation and recovery. Data Analytics... develops services for handling large amounts of data and discovering useful information. Cybersecurity... focuses on developing security, privacy and safety solutions for protecting critical infrastructures. Transport and Traffic... focuses on intelligent solutions for traffic management.
Connected Technologies With the increasing number of networked devices in home environments, there s a great need for a transparent and comprehensive way to handle them. Optimized for mobile devices with touch capability, the "Home Control Center" offers a ubiquitous easy-to-use interface. The innovative infrastructure of the "CL-Runtime" bears responsibility for vendor- and technology-independent control of devices and sensors. The end user is able to get hold of assistant services through the integrated CL-Store, which are comfortably assembled by developers via the dedicated Software Development Kit ("CL-SDK"). After the provider has given his approval, assistants are available inside the "Home Control Center".
Mobile Health Apps Improvement of health care can be achieved by use of information and communication technology for prevention. In particular, mobile apps, as a constant companion of the user, which he can use at any time, can make a contribution. Motivation to do more exercise, monitoring of daily activities, and supporting for a healthy diet are key components of the presented apps. The app "Bewusst Einkaufen" supports for a healthier shopping, "NutriMe" for a healthy diet, and "CLOG" assists during workouts. As a further application "AOK Schwanger" supports the expectant mother with health and other matters relating to her pregnancy.
Smart Education The future of education comes with a lot of challenges. Todays' curricula are constantly changing and cover an ever-increasing amount of different topics. As a consequence, students have much less time to do their homework and to prepare for exams. With this comes a risk of work overload teachers and students often cannot cope with their workloads while parents in many cases are not at all familiar with their children's curricula. Our SmartSchool application offers comprehensive support to students, teachers and parents and improves communication and transparency in education. It provides solutions for maximum transfer of knowledge by offering smart indexing and search services while helping to plan and model lessons in more effective ways.
Adaptive Cybersecurity Androlyzer is a novel tool which allows users to gain useful insights into the internal workings of Android applications. Current security architecture of the Android OS is technically solid, but coarse-grained and nontransparent to the average user. Hence, numerous applications abuse the situation by covertly violating user's privacy and compromising device security. We approach this problem by providing static analysis of app binaries as a full fledged mobile app as well as a web service for viewing reports off-device. Additionally, DAI Cloud Crypt encrypts private data on the smartphone or tablet, and backs up securely to cloud services such as Dropbox.
Personalized Management Rate items Tagging Manage documents Store searches Personalized Search Find users Collaborate Chat Communication Community Enterprise Search PIA Enterprise is an enterprise search engine that has the goal to assist employees to fulfill their daily information gathering tasks. PIA provides access to content from multiple sources within the enterprise such as intranet, web, databases, mails and user desktops whilst taking into account privacy and user rights. PIA gives fast access to information and offers personalized continuous information supply to inform users once new content is available. PIAs unique feature are the distributed indices, which allow adding new sources to a running system and managing rights for different sources individually. PIA transfers latest research results directly to real world enterprise applications.
Electro Mobility In the future it is necessary to reduce traffic-induced pollutions by applying electric vehicles and to establish an ICT-based multi-modal, user-oriented mobility supply. Therefore key topics are the intelligent usage of vehicle batteries as regenerative energy storage units, the linkage of different means of transportation as well as the installation of additional mobility services. In the "International Showcase for Electromobility Berlin-Brandenburg" as well as in international research collaborations innovative solutions are developed and tested in real environments.
