1 Introduction The objective of the dissemination activities of a project is to generate awareness and publicity in order to ensure the success of any research project. To develop efficient and effective work in the field of dissemination, the Interflex partners concentrate their effort on the spread of the technological and scientific achievements to the widest audience possible. The target groups for external dissemination activities could be the general public, potential business partners, and specific scientific experts, as well as public institutions like governmental and European institutions. It is important to note that as Interflex is an interdisciplinary project, the differences between the groups had to be recognised and addressed when preparing a dissemination activity addressed to a specific audience. The Interflex dissemination plan and the dissemination achievements within the first months (M01-M18) have been developed and presented in documents D73.4 and D73.2 [1, 2]. This document is the third deliverable dedicated to the dissemination activities. It provides an overview of the dissemination and interaction efforts of the Interflex consortium carried out within the second year. The current deliverable is a follow-up of the precedent deliverables [1, 2] with an overview of the project s dissemination activities within the second year. It briefly summarizes the overall Interflex dissemination strategy, describes how results and knowledge obtained in the project have been exchanged with other European projects and with the scientific community. 2 Dissemination strategy of the Interflex project Interflex adopts a multi-channel, multi-audience dissemination strategy based on three consecutive phases: The goal of the first, awareness phase was to raise awareness within a qualified community about the project and its objectives. The second, result phase aimed to promote the results of the project, in order to allow potential interested parties to get to know the achievements and the related benefits of the Interflex project. And finally, in the third exploitation phase specific activities were undertaken to achieve the exploitation activities. The details of each of these phases have been reported in deliverable D73.2 [2]. All of these phases required different methods and activities to be initiated in order to make the project environment, including scientific and industrial community, aware of project developments and results in terms of technologies and benefits. Version page 3/10 01/03/2012

After the identification of the potential targeted audience, the next step is to reach all of them to disseminate the project results. The project s dissemination plan consists of the following tasks: Establishment and maintenance of the project website Organization of industry dissemination events Organization of workshops and participation in other related events Publication of the project s achievements at international conferences, in journals and magazines 3 Dissemination activities The dissemination activities have a twofold focus: (i) distributing relevant results to the scientific community and (ii) propagating the technology to the respective public or corporate audiences. In addition to increasing the visibility of the project and the impact of its scientific and technological achievements, these activities also promote the reputation of project partners at local, national and international level. This section provides information about the dissemination activities of Interflex towards the scientific community. It describes the current state of the promotion materials (like project logo, templates, project website) which were created in the first months of the project in order to support the project dissemination and to build the project identity. In addition, this section includes participation in meetings, conferences and workshops, publications, and contacts/cooperation with other European projects. 3.1 External website One of the important parts in Interflex dissemination plan is the public website. The Interflex website is available at and complies with the guidelines of the European Commission for dissemination of project results and project websites. It is designed and maintained by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The external website (Figure 1) serves as the most dissemination tool and the first stop for interested parties from outside the consortium, since it supplies the theoretical and technological achievements of the project. It aims to provide general information about the Interflex project, its activities and its achievements as well as background information, contact details and events. It informs the visitor about the project partners and through clicking on the name of a partner the user can reach the adequate homepage of the company. Apart from that, the website acts as a principal means of publication and frequent modifications, news and updates make the website informative and give interested people reasons for coming back. Links to related ICT-Projects are included on the web-site. Version page 4/10 01/03/2012

Figure 1: Screenshot Internal website The external website structure aims to easily provide accessible basic information for external visitors. For more detailed information there is a special domain (Figure 2). Only registered Interflex partners with username and password can use the internal website ( and can benefit from the options offered such as: Project documents, including slides of presentations, keynote and meeting minutes Calendar for conf call and face to face meetings, as well as upcoming events Mailing lists for reaching special mailing groups Wiki function to post and to deal with some articles Forum for information exchange concerning special topics, Version page 5/10 01/03/2012

Figure 2: Screenshot EMDESK plat form 3.3 Conferences workshops and events Contacts with related projects have been established or strengthened via the co-located workshops and different events. These relationships created opportunities to disseminate the Interflex results and helped to make sure that the partners were always aware of the latest results and developments in related areas. Thus, a number of events that focused on flexible systems have been attended by the Interflex consortium. An overview of attended events can be found in table 2. The activities and events can be grouped in following categories: (i) Clustering within the domain of smart systems through participation in the support activities of the OLEA concertation meeting during ISFOE11, as well as in the activities surrounding the integration of flexible foils, where we presented Interflex at booths during the Version page 6/10 01/03/2012

Smart System Integration in Dresden in March 2011 and the Plastic electronics 2011 in Dresden in October In addition, a presentation was given at the forum be-flexible on flexible electronic systems organised by the Fraunhofer EMFT (November 23, 2011). (ii) Participation in workshops for public domain. The Interflex project was represented and explained in the Summer School and Workshop on printed electronics and foil assembly with 40 participants was held from 07 to 10 June at the Fraunhofer EMFT in Munich. The goal of the 2011 Summer School and Workshop was to give young scientists from industry and academia insight into recent research activities in the field of organic and large area electronics as well as to expand their professional skills and to enlarge their professional network. The program offered a balanced mixture of scientific talks, lectures and practical courses. Senior scientists involved in the EU-funded ICT-projects Polaric [3], Cosmic [4], Interflex and EC-Smart [5] gave presentations on their latest research work and results. Advanced talks on e. g. imprinting and µ-contact printing, organic thin film transistors, heterogeneous foil to foil integration as well as on roll to roll fabrication and interconnection technologies covered different aspects of large area electronics. Several presentations demonstrated how collaboration works within EU funded projects and helps to bring emerging technologies from academia to industry and applications. In the lectures and practical courses knowledge on preparation and characterization of organic thin film transistors, roll to roll processing and foil to foil lamination was taught. Ongoing discussions and networking during evening reception and dinner at the Oktoberfest Museum in Munich rounded out the event. 3.4 IPRs and Publications The dissemination strategy is based also on the traditional channels of dissemination such as patents and publication of project result at journals, scientific meetings, conferences and workshops. The list of currently published articles and patents as well as submitted papers can be found in table Participation in projects In addition to the Interflex project, project partners participate also in several other EC or national research projects. Thanks to this interaction the Interflex consortium was always well-informed about the latest results and developments in similar research sphere. The involved partners and their co-operation within other research projects are listed in table1. In addition to the various dissemination activities reported above, cooperation with external bodies and organisations is essential to achieve the ambitious goal of the Interflex project. As an example, a partnership has been set-up to discuss the exchange of information on flexible Version page 7/10 01/03/2012

To ensure graphical conformity and provide a common identity within the Interflex consortium, a project logo was created. The Interflex Logo (Figure 3) is used by all partners for presentations and reporting templates and various communication materials. Figure 3: Interflex logo Project Deliverables, Presentation and Review Templates The deliverable template includes the project logo and the seventh framework logo and is available as MS Word.
