1 September 2013 ISR Apparel R&D Project & Team Manager The Institute for Sports Research (ISR) is a Singapore-based international collaboration between the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and Loughborough University (LU) in the UK, created in July 2011 with the support of Economic Development Board (EDB). ISR aims to quickly become the leading international Sports R&D center in Asia-Pacific that constantly delivers impactful innovations through cutting-edge research and strong collaboration with stakeholders. The ISR imagines new possibilities offered by science and technology to create sports solutions and inspire the sports market through collaborative and interdisciplinary research support. The ISR has a strong focus on disruptive innovation for product R&D and is conducting research work for key international sports brands. Exciting research areas within the ISR include sporting equipment (racquets, golf club, helmets, Bike frame ), apparels, footwear, and artificial playing surfaces. The ISR is recruiting an Apparel R&D Project Manager with solid experience from the textile industry. The role is part of a Joint Innovation Center established within ISR for a major international sports retailing company. The role also includes the management of the R&D team and evolution towards the role of Director of this Innovation Center. Responsibilities: As part of a group of R&D project managers and quickly taking a legitimate lead of this Joint Innovation Centre, reporting to the Director of ISR, the job consists of producing and managing the R&D effort required for each apparel related project embraced by the center. Work closely with Researchers and other R&D Project Managers to identify new technology possibilities in order to propose strong apparel/textile innovations driven by end-user benefits. Propose new research directions and initiatives with local and external parties. Stay in tune with sports apparel technologies around the globe and with the latest evolution from the leading brands and generate market reports to inform and educate the team.

2 Requirements: Textile Engineer or MSc in Materials Science applied to textile from a leading university years working experience in a technical sports apparel company or in a sport industry textile supplier. Skills with exercise and sports science testing would be preferred, however not a prerequisite. Have led / managed sports technology projects from a science / engineering angle. Successful experience in managing a team. Good marketing sensibility and willing to manage a strong relationship with our partner to secure the deliverable of R&D and the overall added value and output of the Joint Innovation Center. Responsibilities: As part of a group of R&D project managers and reporting to the R&D Director of this Joint Innovation Centre, the job consists of answering to the product needs expressed by our Sports Retail International Company partner and to explore new horizons of sports product design for true end-user benefits: generate concepts and functional prototypes in the different product categories: Apparels, Footwear, Equipment. Work closely with Researchers and R&D Project Managers to illustrate new technology possibilities into tangible product design and user experience. Stay in tune with sports product design evolution and generate design market reports to inform and educate the team.

4 Propose new product developments and initiatives with local and external parties. Assist in project management and student project supervision. Requirements: Visionary product designer with sense of reality and strong end-user needs analysis culture. 2 to 5 years working experience in the domain of sport products design preferably in Apparel and Footwear industry. Skills in both sketching and CAD Design software as well as hands-on approach on prototyping. A true interest for new possibilities offered by science and technology and willing to work with engineer and scientists in an academic environment. Experience working within a large academic or research entity. Excellent communication skills in English. Have a passion for sports practice and related products to be user centered.
