MORE CHOICE, GREATER FLEXIBILITY The Monash Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) team is a group of enthusiastic students and superviss who wk together to design, construct and fly fully autonomous aircraft. The primary focus of the team is the UAV Search and Rescue Challenge, which runs every two years and is a well-established international competition that attracts teams from around the wld to compete in outback Queensland. The team flew in the competition in 201, 2016, and is on track to compete in 2018 with a hybrid fixed/rotary wing aircraft with a 100 km range. This project brings together aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, avionics, vision systems and automatic control f design, development and competition. This hands-on experience gives students a very special opptunity to develop their teamwk and project management skills while building their technical and operational understanding of the industry. THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL AND ENGINEERING The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is globally renowned f its teaching, its research and its facilities. It is the largest department in the Faculty of Engineering with a dynamic academic, postgraduate and postdoctal community. Undergraduate students regularly interact with postgraduates and postdoctal researchers. Our researchers perfm innovative wk in exciting and globally relevant areas including micro-nano devices, robotics, biomedical devices, materials design, advanced manufacturing, aerodynamics, energy, structural moniting, wind engineering, and the latest in biomedical imaging. This research is shared with undergraduates in the classroom. COURSE OVERVIEW AND STRUCTURE The aerospace engineering degree program at Monash recognises the global nature of engineering in the wld economy and encourages an international focus. The structure of the program is designed to progressively build your understanding then apply this knowledge in your final year with an independent research project, technical electives and an industry practices unit. Project-based units emphasise the interdisciplinary nature of engineering. They also aim to develop your teamwk, project management, communication, practical design and research skills. Monash offers the widest choice of engineering courses in Australia. We offer you the flexibility of the common first year and the opptunity to broaden your career options with a double degree. MONASH MOTORSPORT FORMULA SAE: DESIGN, BUILD, COMPETE ENGINEERING THE TOTAL EXPERIENCE Monash Engineering is well-known f its integration of practical and theetical learning. The faculty offers a range of enrichment activities to open your eyes to a wld outside the classroom. 4 MEET OUR GRADUATES NEXT STEPS COURSE DETAILS HOW TO APPLY Location: Clayton Indicative ATAR: 91 Indicative IB Sce: + Domestic (Australian) and onshe international students ENGINEERING CARLY SWARD Graduate Development Program, Department of Defence When Carly graduated, she was thrilled to secure a graduate program position at the Department of Defence. She loved the diversity which ranged from providing technical and policy advice from her desk in Canberra to touring military bases around the country. I was involved in large infrastructure development planning, I completed strategy and communication training courses and I expled equipment such as F/A-18s, Abrams tanks and everything in between, says Carly. During her first graduate rotation, Carly wked on land management and biosecurity policy within the Infrastructure Division. Her second rotation was in the Defence Intelligence Organisation and involved technical analysis of weapons systems and emerging technologies. She also represented Defence in meetings with other commonwealth and state officials and visited several bases and training areas within Australia. Carly says she found the learning environment at Monash supptive and believes that the equipment in wkshops, labaties and testing facilities helped to develop the technical skills industry demands. LAUREN CLAY Building Physics Engineer, Arup In her role as Building Physics Engineer at Arup, Lauren looks at buildings holistically and uses fundamental scientific principles to yield high perfming, sustainable buildings. I conduct simulation wk to infm design decisions regarding natural ventilation, pedestrian wind comft, building massing optimisation, daylighting, thermal comft and thermal perfmance, building energy and microclimate, explains Lauren. When she graduated from Monash, Lauren felt she had a solid grounding in both the theetical and practical aspects of engineering. But she also now knows that as a consultant, interpersonal skills are equally imptant. In the second year of my course, I was offered a place in the Leadership in a Technological Environment program (now the Engineering Leadership Program). This three year program complemented my technical training with strong communication, leadership and netwking skills. l learnt from guest speakers about sustainability, ethics, project management and me. I was also able to netwk extensively with people from industry, which led to invaluable career opptunities. MATTHEW CORALLO Bachel of Aerospace Engineering (Honours). Currently studying: Doct of Philosophy degree From a very young age Matthew was fascinated with all things mechanical and he spent most of his childhood driving cars and riding motbikes on the family property. When Matthew started looking at career options, engineering stood out as the obvious choice. So he did a lot of research into the difference streams of engineering and decided to embark on a degree in aerospace engineering. Matthew s highlight while at Monash was being involved with the Monash Motspt Fmula SAE team. During my time on the team I gained invaluable skills in areas such as part design and manufacture, leadership, resource management and dealing with sponss and suppliers. I also developed a technical understanding across a range of vehicle subsystems. I even travelled to Europe three times to compete in Fmula student events and made many great friends along the way.
