5 From Wikipedia Self-actualization (a term originated by Kurt Goldstein) is the instinctual need of humans to make the most of their unique abilities and to strive to be the best they can be. Maslow describes self-actualization as follows: - Self Actualization is the intrinsic growth of what is already in the organism, or more accurately, of what the organism is. (Psychological Review, 1949)

6 Self-actualizing people in Maslow s writes They embrace the facts and realities of the world (including themselves) rather than denying or avoiding them. They are spontaneous in their ideas and actions. They are creative. They are interested in solving problems; this often includes the problems of others. Solving these problems is often a key focus in their lives. They feel a closeness to other people, and generally appreciate life. They have a system of morality that is fully internalized and independent of external authority. They judge others without prejudice, in a way that can be termed objective. In short, self-actualization is reaching your fullest potential.

8 Components of an Experience of Flow Clear goals (expectations and rules are discernable). Concentrating and focusing, a high degree of concentration on a limited field of attention (a person engaged in the activity will have the opportunity to focus and to delve deeply into it). A loss of the feeling of self-consciousness, the merging of action and awareness.

9 Distorted sense of time - our subjective experience of time is altered. Direct and immediate feedback (successes and failures in the course of the activity are apparent, so that behavior can be adjusted as needed). Balance between ability level and challenge (the activity is neither too easy nor too difficult). A sense of personal control over the situation or activity. The activity is intrinsically rewarding, so there is an effortlessness of action.

10 The Nature of Creative Development by Jonathan S. Feinstein Feinstein provides a useful framework for those engaged in creative work or managing individuals engaged in such work. It will help the reader understand the nature of creativity, including difficulties they may encounter in their work and ways to overcome them.

11 The Nature of Creative Development presents a new understanding of the basis of creativity, describing patterns of development of individuals engaged in creative endeavors. Feinstein shows how creativity grows out of distinctive, unique creative interests individuals form, often years before they make their main contributions, which grow out of their interests. He describes how individuals' interests spark creative responses, as well as ways in which individuals are guided by their interests and values. The example of Dutch artist Piet Mondrian.

Economagic [ is an excellent and easy to use source of macro time series (some 100,000 series available). The data series are easily viewed in a copy & paste format, or graphed. Users can carry out least squares regressions online. Economic Information Systems [ provides long time series, formatted in such a way that copying and pasting into a spreadsheet is easy.
