22 ARUP Project Portfolio STRATEGY Digital Masterplanning Boston Seaport Dubai Expo, Dubai Vinge, Denmark Leeds City Region MiPIM Implementing a Digital Masterplan Boston Innovation District, is the largest single real estate project in Boston s history. In keeping with the innovative spirit of the neighborhood, WS Development is developing 3.3 million square feet of mixed use space and is exploring how a service-centered approach to technology, planning and design can attract residents, tenants, and visitors to the district by using digital as the differentiator. Arup is working to define the future operational models, organizational structure and user experience enabled through digital technology for the site. This includes the development of a robust technical architecture and implementation plan. The technical architecture will be used to define design guidelines for the build out of the remaining development, as well as supporting the procurement process for site-wide telecommunications systems. Developing a Digital Masterplan Arup supported the Dubai World Expo 2020 team since the development of the Concept Masterplan in In 2014, Arup developed a Detailed Masterplan for the site, alongside HOK, which included; sustainability, logistics, security, infrastructure, utilities, transportation and pedestrian planning, GIS, accessibility, smart cities and environmental planning. Inputs were led locally, and supported from several Arup offices around the world. For smart cities, Arup developed a vision for how technology and data could enhance seamless operations and the visitor experience for the Expo, whilst considering legacy provision. Requirements were gathered from across the design teams, and smart city services were identified and benchmarked against other developments. In addition, technology systems and their implications for telecommunications and spatial planning, were defined. Developing a Digital Vision Arup developed a digital vision for Vinge, a new town being developed for 10,000 residents on a 370-hectare greenfield site, north of Copenhagen. Arup worked with the municipality and the other masterplanning teams to develop the vision, which started with clarifying the overarching goals for the new town which included ambitious sustainability targets. Arup identified digital technology programmes and projects that would support these goals, including de-centralised renewable energy, low carbon mobility, playful and informative environments, distributed places of work and learning, and data privacy and security. Arup also developed a framework to help the municipality to evaluate and prioritise these projects, along with a set of digital design principles which aim to guide the procurement of technology during the town s development. Creation of an interactive 3D model for Leeds city regions exhibition stand at MiPIM. Current, planned, proposed and future developments across the cities that make up the Leeds city region were showcased in this interactive model. By selecting the various sites potential investors and developers were able to gain key information about the sites. A high level understanding of the various cities changing face was afforded in an easily accessible manner
