4 The demand from the society Innovation must be safe for human health and the environment (EHS). Risk analysis needs to establish the appropriate procedures to assure it. Equally important is to ensure that innovation addresses also societal ethical needs and challenges (ELSA) in ways that are acceptable to the range of stakeholders. More information is necessary. 5 Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) RRI is a transparent, interactive process by which societal actors and innovators become mutually responsive to each other with a view to the (ethical) acceptability, sustainability and societal desirability of the innovation process and its marketable products. 11 RRI in Horizon 2020 "RRI is an inclusive approach to research and innovation (R&I), to ensure that societal actors work together during the whole research and innovation process. It aims to better align both the process and outcomes of R&I, with the values, needs and expectations of European society.
