7 Irish Humanities Alliance and Horizon 2020 EU and Horizon 2020 Working Group: Chaired by Prof. Jeurgen Barkhoff, Trinity Long Room Hub Engaged by the Irish Research Council on consultations regarding the next work programme for SC6, which also resulted in a number of cross cutting topics, particularly in health, agriculture and environment

8 Key Aim of IHA: Embedding the Humanities Strengthen engagement with stakeholders representing all of the Societal Challenges bring strong research in Irish institutions to bear on developments in Europe initiate cross-disciplinary engagement in Ireland mobilize ideas at all stages of EU research actions

9 Irish Social Sciences Platform: What is it?» Initially formed under PRTLI Cycle 4, it is a network of researchers in the following Institutions Maynooth University NUI Galway Dublin City University University College Cork University of Limerick Mary Immaculate College Institute of Technology Sligo Queens University Belfast

10 Irish Social Sciences Platform: What is it? The ISSP research focuses on three strongly inter-related areas of recognised national importance: Building of the knowledge society/economy; Supporting sustainable communities; Promoting balanced regional and rural development and competitiveness. All of these areas have relevance for Horizon 2020 Societal Challenges ISSP was also highly engaged in consultations with the IRC on draft Work Programme for Societal Challenge 6

11 Irish Social Sciences Platform: Example of ISSP Resources: The Measurement Instrument Database for the Social Sciences (MIDSS) is available at It provides a repository for researchers to both search for measurement instruments, and promote any instruments they have developed. The All-Island Research Observatory (AIRO) seeks to produce all-island, spatial datasets and specialist tools to aid their analyses, and to undertake academic and applied mapping research.
