2 Region Skåne is the self governing authority of Skåne, the southernmost county of Sweden Region Skåne s competences includes; health and medical services; regional growth and development; public transport; culture; and cross border and interregional cooperation Skåne is a large region in Sweden, a cross border region which together with the Copenhagen area in DK forms a European metropolitan region. Population: 1.2 million Region Skåne

3 Skåne European Office Skåne European Office was established tblihdin permanent staff + trainee(s) Main issues for the office is to strengthen the visibility of Region Skåne in Brussels both vis à vis EU institutions and other stakeholders to follow/analyse l important tpolicy developments in areas such as: health policy, research and innovation, transport, environment and cohesion policy to assist stakeholders in Skåne to find their way in Brussels both in relation to policy and projects.

4 International innovation strategy Region Skåne spolitical l vision i is to become the most innovative region in Europe by 2020 The vision is clearly based on an outward looking/international vision Much work has been done over the last years prior to the innovation strategy was published in 2011 The innovation strategy should support skills development within areas where Skåne has greatest potential to stimulate innovation Personal health Smart cities Smart materials

7 Implementing and monitoring the innovation strategy A coordination group that t will focus on implementing the innovation strategy has been established OECD Territorial review of Skåne published earlier this year Region Skåne is a member of the smart specialisation platform presented its innovation strategy in Seville earlier this year Staff resources has been allocated to equipthe strategy with an adequate set of indicators and monitoring tools

8 Comments on the RIM reports/website The website bit gives a good insight i htin different regions economic development, regional innovation reports if available and their most important organisations and policy documents. In line with the Erawatch database with focus on Research and Innovation in member states. Possible to quickly get facts and also to make comparison between regions with some limitations e.g. NUTSII do not always corresponds to real county borders, how often is the information updated? Focus on descriptive data
