6 Dr Amy Hochadel Global Cities Lead Future Cities Catapult 11:40 to 12:20 Making Renewable Energy Practical and Economical Fossil fuels as the primary source of energy predates recorded history. Fossil-based fuels (oil, coal, and natural gas) currently provide about 85% of all the energy worldwide. However, the trends have been changing as the World is moving towards more sustainable energy options. To successfully move towards a sustainable renewable source of energy the technology behind it needs to be more practical and economical as that will incentivize governments and corporations to switch to a more renewable approach. This session will discuss on how to make renewable energy a more viable option. The session will also touch upon innovations that are revolutionising the renewable energy landscape and also hear from government officials on how they are encouraging green energy in their cities. Panellist: Dr. Raed Bkayrat Vice President Business Development Middle East First Solar Dr. Christopher Papile Renewable: Energy, Systems & Chemicals 12:20 to 13:00 - Processing Waste for a Better Ecosystem Nations around the World currently generate 1.3 billion tons of waste. That s expected to soar to 4 billion tons by Given the rise in waste, there are major concerns with regards to waste management as landfills, combustion and other traditional methods are criticised and becoming less popular.
7 In this session, we will discover how waste can be converted into opportunity. How recycling can be an incentive for municipal and private firms to generate clean energy. We shall also discover technologies emerging around the World which have a sustainable impact on waste management. Panellist: Rob Hounsome Regional Director Infrastructure and Environment Ramboll 13:00 to 14:30 - Lunch Break and Networking for FCS Delegates 14:30 to 15:10 Working towards Sustainability in Construction For the first time in human history over half of the World s population lives in urban environments and sustainable buildings have become vital cornerstones for securing long-term environmental, economic and social viability. With urban population s worldwide swelling by around one million people every week, there s an urgent need to come up with clever ideas that optimise the sustainable performance of the buildings that we live and work in. There are a lot of factors that need to be kept in mind for sustainable construction. However, this session will touch upon innovation, economic viability and sustainability in the construction industry and how the construction industry is shaping itself into the sustainability model. 15:10 to 15:50 Deploying Smart Utilities in Future Cities Smart technologies are modernising energy systems, bringing massive change for the industry. Governments and legislators are pushing smart technology forward but there are many challenges facing power and utility companies today, the most pressing are the increasing demand for power, an urgent need to build or improve infrastructure, and the shift away from fossil fuels to cut carbon emissions. To help meet these challenges, the energy industry is adopting intelligent new technology.
8 This session is going to be an interactive discussion between utility companies and government representatives discussing on what efforts are made to roll out smart grid technologies and discuss how IoT is playing an important role in the industry? 15:50 to 16:20 Creating and Designing Future Urban Cities This session will bring city planners and designers to discuss on how cities can be effectively be designed or redesigned to cater smart infrastructure. Discussing on how cities in the future will respond and look like. Taking notes on the latest breakthrough technologies for urban planning and how the cities of the future will be efficient, sustainable, and smart. 16:20 to 17:00 - Technology Innovation: Changing the Construction Industry Improved project outcomes can only occur through understanding the most significant of the individual applications and devices that are currently available, and realising how those technologies are already synergistically working together and giving rise to emergent processes. These processes will likely supplant many of the standalone systems that now dominate the tech landscape and will represent the new normal for project execution in the not-so-distant future. This session will cover technology innovation which is impacting the construction industry. How adoption of drones, IOT, AR/VR, 3-D printers and robotic constructors are changing the traditional forms of construction. 17:00 to 17:15 Closing Remarks by Moderator 17:15 Close of Future Cities Show Conference 2018
