1 Upstream / Upstream Safety Sessions U01 API Spec Q2 Our Journey to theworld s First Oil and Gas Quality Management System Standard for Service Supply Organizations Euan Ramsay, Regional Business Development Manager, Tasman Dubai This session will outline one service company s journey implementing an integrated management system to meet the world s most advanced certification standard, API Spec Q2, Specification for Quality Management System Requirements for Service Supply Organizations for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries. In order to implement an effective service quality program, a strategic approach was needed that included identifying gaps in existing systems, understanding the complexities of multiple sites, identifying key resources, and implementing best practices that can be widely adopted in different areas of the operation. Commenced in late October 2014, join this company on their journey to achieve the highest level of service excellence through API Spec Q2 certification. U03 API Standard 53 Proves Ideal Training Aide Michael Gibson, IDEAS This presentation portrays the advantages of utilizing API Standard 53 as a key training aide in the area of Blowout Prevention Equipment Systems for an accelerated Assistant Driller Training Program for people new to the Industry and employed by a major drilling company in South East Asia. To address the challenges of educating people with differing experience, backgrounds, nationalities and skills, API Standard 53 was chosen as the ideal solution for this training program since it is both clearly and unambiguously written. It also dove-tails perfectly with the new IADC Wellsharp well control training program and the OGP Report No.476 which recommends certain enhancements to well control training. Furthermore, it is considered an ideal standard for future training courses, including for Driller s and Drilling Engineers as examples. U04 API RP 96 & API Bulletin 97: Essential for Deepwater Well Design & Construction Success Michael Gibson, IDEAS This presentation portrays the advantages of utilising API RP 96 & API Bulletin 97 for deepwater well planning and operations through discussing both unsuccessful and successful deepwater wells drilled globally and offshore in South East Asia. Through portraying actual failures and successes in terms of well design and construction, the lessons learned can be applied to future deepwater South East Asia wells leading to both successful drilling and control over associated well cost, a critical factor in today s environment of low oil prices. Furthermore, given the evolution in well control certification programs and area of well integrity, API RP 96 is most useful with regard to barriers and their testing once in place. This knowledge is extremely beneficial from both a planning and operational perspective for deepwater wells. U05 The Success Story of API SPEC Q1: Championing Failure Ir. Azhar Zainal Abidin, ProEight API Specification Q1 has become a benchmark of quality management system (QMS) standards and best practices within the oil and gas industry. This recognition alone, however, will not ensure that the the QMS process requirements of API Spec Q1 are regularly practiced in-house. At the beginning of the management system implementation, even though the API Spec Q1 requirements seem to be practiced internally, ProEight is still facing non-conformance issues on various aspects, especially in manufacturing and product quality. However, these issues have been mitigated through our Championing Failure Programme ; a programme which upholds nonconformances as a tool to improve quality management system performance. Emphasis on improving system performance rather than the avenue of penalizing the personnel or actions that lead to the non-conformance has proven to be a winning factor in championing the API Q1 conforming management system. The results are obvious as major reduction in manufacturing defects and increased product innovations have been realized. By Championing Failure, ProEight has successfully improved the company s quality through spearheading improvement without the fear of failure.

2 U06 Corrosion Imaging Through Insulation for Piping and Vessels for NDT Services Kushal Chetty, JENTEK Sensors, Inc. Recent advances in low frequency eddy current methods for imaging of internal and external corrosion through insulation and weather jacketing have been validated through a broad range of performance and field testing. Results of field demonstrations at refineries and qualification testing using the MR-MWM-Array methodology are reviewed in this presentation. They have been shown to provide several advantages over alternative methods such as pulsed eddy current testing. These advantages include: higher resolution images; faster scan speeds; quantitative material loss measurements using a model based method; and dramatically improved robustness. The hyperlattice based multivariate inverse methods use precomputed databases of sensor responses to correct for common variations in insulation thickness, pipe material properties, weather jacket thickness and sensor proximity to provide a reliable measurement of remaining pipe wall thickness for corrosion detection and sizing. Solutions are being developed for offshore topsides piping and risers with marinization for subsea applications under active development. U07 Life Cycle Management Drilling & Completion Service Tools; Integrity Assurance and Condition Monitoring Peter Koopmans, Hess Challenging and complex wells are leading to legacy tools and equipment from drilling and completion service contractors being pushed to performance limits approaching, and in some cases exceeding, design safety factors. Additionally, the service history of such equipment presents risk to operators when facing a decline in reliability due to fatigue, stress and insufficient maintenance as compared to the contractors business drivers for continued tool utilization. This session will talk about strategies to mitigate these risks, as well as the role that standards, such as API Spec Q2 and upcoming API Std 18LCM, can have in influencing our industry to raise the bar on equipment integrity assurance and help prevent service tool failures. U08 EHS Sustainable Culture Change Peter Hemingway, GE EHS excellence has long been the ultimate goal of businesses worldwide. How is it possible to deliver global EHS excellence across multiple, diverse businesses from oil and gas, aviation, healthcare, lighting and transportation in company owned facilities and client sites for services with over 300,000 employees worldwide? Any change, to be successful, must be sustainable across all aspects of business, whether in strategy or execution. In the case of EHS excellence, the drivers to success are typically systems and people. At GE, a Road Map to EHS Excellence has been created to develop a sustainable EHS culture change and targets leaders and employees to effect this change. The roadmap provides clear expectations for all involved in the implementation of a new EHS management system called Framework 2.0 which replaced the previous framework in 2015 for GE businesses globally. The presentation will demonstrate the GE approach and implementation of the road map from engagement, communication and operational support, to evaluation aspects of the process. U09 Critical & Complex Well Designs Pursuant to API Standards Bob Pilko, Blade Energy Partners Exploratory wells increasingly are critical and/or complex, considering the realities of deep water, HPHT, severe pressure transition, and tight pore pressure frac gradient margin. Operating clients require significant engineering, planning, and operational well construction expertise for safe, effective and sustainable well integrity. Challenges designing these wells arise when natural rock, fluid, and pressure transitions require multiple specialized tubulars and utilization of advanced operational techniques. In all cases, proper and successful well design and operations are performed in conformance with API Standards and Practices. Referencing and pursuant to numerous API group section standards and practices, including API 5CT, 16A, 16C, 16D, 65, 96, 97, and others, a complex well is designed for the operators and their project stakeholders. This presentation will review use of the standards and practices to overcome some of the well s design challenges using the proven engineering practices contained in API standards.

4 U16 API RP 75 - Recommended Practice for Development of a Safety and Environmental Management Program for Offshore Operations and Facilities Charlie Williams, Center for Offshore Safety Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) were established in 1991 based on API Recommended Practice 75. In 2010 post Macondo, the US Regulator established a legal requirement for all US Offshore Operators to have a SEMS based on API RP 75. This has impacted safety management systems worldwide with many regulatory regimes developing regulations based on the RP 75 concepts and organizations publishing documents similarly based on these concepts. API RP 75 is now currently under revision and update. This update will have significant impact worldwide and the new RP 75 will purposefully be changed to better serve international needs. API RP 75 will continue to be performance-based but will be more scalable to serve all the industry in promoting continuous learning/improvement. It will clearly be intended for use by offshore operators and contractors. The revised RP 75 will identify the essential elements for establishing an effective safety and environmental management system but is not intended to be a detailed description explaining how to specifically implement each element. The presentation will cover the current state of RP 75, the principles of the plan forward for revision and update, and the many tools, techniques, and processes developed by the Center for Offshore Safety to support the implementation and effectiveness of SEMS. This will include auditing tools, audit assurance, data collection and analysis, and good practices. U17 Q2 - Operators Perspective Stacey Hagan, ExxonMobil (invited) API Spec Q2 was published in December 2011, and over the past 4-years Operators have been supporting and expanding the required use of the standard in the service-supply chain. Service companies all over the globe are also realizing successes in improving service quality and reducing non-productive time through the implementation and application of the API Spec Q2 requirements. This session will provide information on the status of the implementation of Q2 through the global service supply chain. Many lessons have been learned and API s committee on quality (SC18) has been actively working to develop a guidance document to help with application of the standard requirements. Finally, Operator perspectives, from a large, global integrated oil and gas company, will be provided on the future of API Spec Q2 and its use throughout the exploration and production service industry. U18 API Spec Q1, 9th Edition and ISO 9001:2015 Tony Devita To meet the needs of global oil and gas users and operators; many equipment manufacturers are required to meet the requirements of API Spec Q1, 9th Edition and ISO 9001 within the same management system. With the publication of ISO 9001:2015 in September 2015 oil and gas manufacturers are going to face new challenges applying the ISO 9001 and the API Spec Q1 requirements within the same management system. This session will provide an overview of common areas and gaps between API Spec Q1 and ISO 9001:2015. It will also provide information on API Spec Q1 and risk assessment and other new requirements introduced in the 9th Edition that have helped oil and gas companies that use the standard establish a framework for working towards transitioning to ISO 9001:2015. Gary Ong, Petronas This presentation will attempt to address some of the parameters which could affect fatigue performance of a given OCTG connection, the current methodology of testing and the inadequacy of available API documents or existing industry standards in addressing this subject. U21 Application and Evaluation of Fracturing Fluid in Southwest Shale Gas Wang Haiyan, CNPC China The progress of the North American shale gas exploration and production activities has had a direct impact on the successful development of shale gas reservoirs in Southwest China. The success or failure of these shale gas operations is directly related to the successful deployment of fracturing operations and the development, evaluation and application of fracturing fluids. After learning much about fracturing fluid technology from North American industry, independent research and development into the effective use and application of shale gas fracturing fluids in Southwest China has been conducted. This analysis and research on the application and characteristics of shale gas fracturing fluid has been conducted based on reservoir and lithology characteristics that are specific to the reservoirs in Southwest China. This presentation will summarize the findings of this independent research and development, including the experimental findings of a comprehensive analysis and contrast of the differences in fracturing fluid application effects in shale gas operations in North America and Southwest China. Several conclusions and recommendations relating to the selection and application of fracturing fluids will also be provided. U22 Value Added Technical Auditing-What the QMS Audit does not tell you Steven Snyder, Transocean Many auditing programs and schemes rely on the QMS process auditing approach only. While this is important and relevant to the industry, and often a requirement to the overall assurance that the organization is being supported by management and there is an effective quality program in place, this approach often does not reveal the entire capability of an organization or determine the technical project compliance capabilities. This presentation will discuss how technical auditing, by subject matter expert s, goes one step further in determining where many repeat project risks are. There are numerous examples of where organizations have approved quality management systems, however, still have extensive need for improvements in overall technical compliance to project requirements, and well established codes and standards. This is especially applicable in the areas of NDT, welding and fabrication, where technical issues, if not found early, can result in major cost and project delays. U23 API Upstream standard development Update - Supply Chain management Rick Faircloth, Cameron Engineered Process Valves This presentation will provide an overview and the latest update on the API 20 Series - supply chain management specifications and standards published. In addition there will be an update on future specifications to be published with a review of how the specifications are being adopted by the supply chain and users. Cameron s subsea division supply chain has required that all tier 1 global bolting suppliers obtain API 20E BSL2 monogram licensing by end of This will provide that the bolting specifications issued by Cameron to our suppliers will be available globally to support operations and allow better on time delivery of equipment. Several end-users are adding API 20 series, including 20A, 20B, 20C, 20E and 20F, conformity to requirements in their technical purchase specifications for API Spec 6A, 6D and 6DSS equipment.
