FoundOcean All-Energy Presentation May 2012 The experts in subsea grouting for the offshore energy construction industry
Overview of FoundOcean Established in the 1960 s, originally part of the Wimpey Group Heavily involved in the offshore oil & gas sector Offshore renewables became a company focus in 2010 Since then have secured projects in UK, DE and BE territories Oil & Gas still a very relevant part of FoundOcean future revenue mix
Past and future OWF track record 2010 Ormonde OWF turbine jacket installation Walney OWF substation jacket installation 2011 Walney OWF substation jacket installation (Phase 2) Thornton Bank OWF turbine jacket installation (Phase 2) 2012 Thornton Bank OWF turbine jacket installation (Phase 3) Nordsee Ost OWF turbine jacket installation Gwynt Y Mor OWF turbine monopile installation Borkum West OWF turbine tripod installation Courtesy of Owec Tower AS
Opportunities & pitfalls of OWF projects Tendering process Relationships A protracted process which includes early engagement by way of budgetary prices Extremely competitive Sometimes pre-qualification is required Competition In general is very healthy Has encouraged new products & services Some bottlenecks still exist which have a negative effect on prices Competition Tendering process OWF Projects Relationships Due to the fluidity of this sector, both in terms of individuals and projects, building and maintaining relationships is very important However, you are only as good as your last job! News travels fast in this industry Remember that the supply chain differs from one project to another. On one you could be a tier 1 and on another tier 2 or 3 supplier Government support Communication Very good, projects are more transparent in this sector than in Oil & Gas Conferences and seminars are generally very informative Communication Government support Excellent support from Scottish Government and agencies More vocal support from national government would be welcomed The review of the ROC system by the coalition is no doubt creating some investment uncertainty in the sector
Advice for interested parties Understanding The Scope of Work The contractual requirements, if unclear Have the grownup conversation The Risks involved The Known unknowns The Unknown unknowns Planning Resource Equipment and personnel The value of investments can go up as well as down. Past performance is not a guide to future performance. Necessary contingencies... Effective communication to the coal face of the Material requirements and Responsibilities. Project Phase Reduced RISK of resource shortage Reduced RISK of ill-informed personnel
Important factors Always consider where you are working Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm
Effective communication Commercial Business Development Business Development If there is such a thing as soft wants and needs they will be residing here. Communicated in the early stages Operations Commercial Important Material requirements and company liabilities would have been negotiated and agreed to at this stage. A successful project Operations Singularly the most important department in an organisation. They must be fully informed. Effective communication throughout the organisation
Operational planning for people Any longer than 4 weeks and it will start to feel like prison Regular crew changes A healthy crew is a safe crew Ensure effective Handovers and daily Tool Box talks Handovers Resource planning Ensure spare capacity of the correct skill sets to guard against unforeseen demand Make it possible for your crew to balance home life with work commitments wherever possible Personal development One supports the other Take the opportunity to train your personnel and encourage their personal development
Operational planning for other factors Raw material supply, accommodation, travel. Logistics Essential in supporting the offshore personnel and communicating changes in the clients requirements Back-Office support` Supply Chain Pass contractual responsibilities and liabilities through your supply chain Is your supplier aware of their importance in your delivery of the project? Contingency planning One thing you can expect offshore and that s the unexpected
Sometimes, you just can t plan for it... Oil & Gas platform installation project Onboard an Italian registered vessel Unexpected conditions meant it was not possible to set a contingency plug by normal methods What could be used help support the plug? What was readily available aboard this particular vessel? Any Ideas?
Sometimes, you just can t plan for it... Pasta! Successfully blocked the damaged grout seal and enabled a contingency plug to be set
The future for FoundOcean FoundOcean will continue to follow the global offshore energy construction industry, providing innovative products and services to help deliver safe and efficient projects for our clients and developers. To help support this we have a strong future investment program to deliver the necessary equipment and personnel to meet the demand. FoundOcean consider partnerships with blue chip companies like BASF as strategically important for all the offshore sectors, in order to meet future cementitious product requirements.
