modul-dance Dance has been in the fore front of European Contemporany art and we would like that it continues to flourish as a confident, innovative and vital contributor to contemporary culture at all levels of engagement, within and across Europe and beyond. With this project we design a flexible and sustainable framework in providing the optimum conditions necessary for independent professional dance artists to create, produce and present the best possible (innovative, and culturally diverse) dance art and to establish trans-institutional and international cooperation as a means of building and strengthening infrastructural support for dance art, related disciplines, and the dance constituency. It is urgent to develop new ways of supporting and nurturing the potential of our artists. The dancers will gain best possible professional advice and offering facilities which they could not get within their local dance scene. Independent dancers in most European countries lack adequate structures and financial means to develop their creations and to make possible to promote themselves meeting with new audiences. This project is to developing new forms of systematic support to artists who are ready to be exposed for new and culturally diverse contexts. Mobility will become an advantage added to their international experience and career. A significant determinant of quality is the length of time required for the careful preparation in accomplishing different phases of the process of art creation (reflection, research, try out, finding the most appropriate: co- artists; place to première and, promoters of the work). Most independent dance artists and companies, usually receive limited subvention locally for a production, usually within a very short time frame. The main purpose, therefore, of our modular system is to address the artist s needs in the process of artistic creation, to offer the best available resources to support dance creation and dissemination. The project is aimed at effectively establishing and gradually expanding a European network for written cultural heritage, which is supposed to strengthen people s awareness of Europe s common historical past and the historical memory of Europe s countries and cultures by means of developing innovative strategies. It is most of all Europe s numerous archival institutions that are to be considered the guardians of such historical memory. All information kept within those archives constitutes the basis of the continent s identity and that of its countries, people and culture. Making use of these unique records has so far been a restricted business. The purpose of the project is to offer all European citizens comprehensive & easy access to their historical memory via the Internet European Network on Archival Cooperation To this end, the project has in compliance with the Culture Programme ( ) the following objectives: 1 enlarge the already existing network of European cultural institutions (ICARUS) as to advance the digitisation and indexing of records within archives on a national basis. This in turn will promote the intercultural dialogue between institutions as well as considerably increase the amount of digital content on European archive portals (APEnet, Europeana) through further historical source material. 2 demonstrate best practice in the implementation of the project results by developing collaborative tools, by using the digital historical libraries at universities and schools or for education and training programmes. 3 regular exchange knowledge & experiences between persons and institutions involved at meetings, workshops, staff exchange and training programmes, conferences and by means of admitting new partners into the network. 4 publish the project results both within the network and to the general public, which will be done via a website, an online communication platform, e-newsletters, radio and TV broadcasts, printed brochures and advertisements in newspapers and magazines.

Art nouveau & écologie / Art Nouveau & Ecology Gathered around Art Nouveau (AN), a movement born in Europe in the late 19th century, 13 institutions from 10 countries joined in the project Art Nouveau & Ecology to study in a pan European and interdisciplinary perspective, the relation between Art Nouveau and the contemporary issue of ecology (E) through a series of actions, which encourage transnational mobility of workers and cultural objects and intercultural dialogue. The core action is a travelling exhibition AN & Nature which examines the processes of creation, from the raw materials and treatment in artistic workshops to the final art products. Innovative in its tactile aspect and aimed at the general public it is an ideal tool to promote AN in Europe and even outside and to increase awareness of heritage preservation. In 5 Historical labs, aimed to academics, students and AN amateurs, partners and specialists investigate different themes, related to AN and E. Exchange of knowledge and experiences are organised through bilateral and multilateral exchanges on specific topics connected with AN. Innovative laboratory (touchable chairs project aimed at visually impaired public) and pedagogical tools together with other outputs of the project bring art more accessible to disabled and children and assure the sustainability of the project through permanent education. The results of the project are disseminated through promotional activities on national and European levels. The most important is the international symposium Perception of AN in Brussels, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Réseau Art Nouveau Network, which promotes the EU in its capital. Combining Art and E the project has double importance and actuality. It is conceived to answer queries, which were raised 100 years ago and are of great relevance today: how can art contribute to create a common European space in the culturally and politically diversified society and what we can learn from our predecessors to preserve our planet?

Archaeolandsca pes Europe The ultimate aim of the ArchaeoLandscapes network is the use throughout Europe of aerial survey and remote sensing to promote understanding, conservation and public enjoyment of the shared landscape and archaeological heritage of the countries of the European Union. The project represents the culmination of a growing European cooperation from the mid-1990s onwards. Now federating 34 prestigious institutions in the field of archaeology and heritage protection (27 Coordinator/Co-organisers and 7 Associated Partners) from 26 separate countries, it will bring that process to a sustainable and self-supporting future as the long-term legacy of this and earlier EU-assisted initiatives. The central theme of concerted action and cooperation will be stressed through annual meetings of the whole of the membership and the project s Management Board, to agree policy, review progress and plan new initiatives. Much of the project s work, however, will be undertaken through specialist focus-groups and carefully structured work-packs setting out operational programmes and timetables for each of the project s eight key objectives or Actions. Dialogue with target groups in the community will focus on multilingual and interactive web-based presentation. Use will also be made of leaflets, booklets and more substantial publications to engage both with ordinary citizens and with specialists in various aspects of heritage exploration, management and presentation. The project s long-term legacy will be better appreciation of the landscape and archaeological heritage of Europe, closer contact between heritage professionals and the general public, more effective conservation of the shared cultural heritage, the international sharing of skills and employment opportunities, better public and professional education, the wider use of archive resources and modern survey techniques, and higher professional standards in landscape exploration and conservation. Cultural heritage offers tangible expression to the shared cultural past of European countries: it forms part of the source DNA of the spirit that became the phenomenon Europe. Ultimately it represents the evidence and justification of Europe as a geo-cultural entity. Consequently, in the process of forging greater European unity, heritage institutions can play a significant role. However, their functioning is legally strictly limited to national borders. If these institutions want to play a social role in Europe, these boundaries have to be transcended. The project Cradles of European Culture (CEC) wants to give this breakthrough a boost Cradles of European Culture This 5 year project starts from a historical case study: the Realm of Francia Media, extending from the Mediterranean to the North Sea going through the heart of Europe between 850 and The motivation for this choice is that the countries that belonged to the Middle Carolingian realm also stood at the cradle of the European Union in the middle of the previous century. The project intends, through a cooperation between heritage partners of 10 European countries, to highlight the importance of Europe s geocultural past in the functioning of contemporary European society. It also aims at linking the processes of identity creation, the sense of belonging and the intercultural dialogue to the valorisation and understanding of the remains of our past. The research will feed the core part of the project, dedicated to the sensibilisation and the involvement of the general public. The Francia Media Heritage Route plays a central role in the public outreach. The sites selected for the route are truly Cradles of European Culture. They will be developed into European interpretation centres. Permanent facilities on the pilot sites and sustained educational and public outreach programmes will ensure that the project s results will also be continued after the end of the EU financed scheme.

E.C.A.S. - Networking Tomorrow's Art for an Unknown Future The proposed project is a quest for a cohesive view of what currently exists and a questioning of the state of things as they are; an examination of how to cope with an unknown future using the tools that have been developed so far. In times with no illusions of utopia, the urge to find methods of self-empowerment a backing-up for the unknown is more urgently needed than ever before. Advanced sound and its strongly linked new cultural forms and technologies are the very perceptible examples for our society of how the human condition is changing and they deliver a low-threshold access for all generations to get acquainted with questions and needs and the possible societal changes beyond the impact of the harsh economic changes. The vision encapsulated is for an integrated framework and a series of activities, which will enable a significant stride toward unity for the co-applicants and the art forms they represent. Our aim is to build a strong and integrated European framework for new cultural forms related to sound and new technologies. A unity that is inherently inclusive and empowering for the vibrant cultural forms which are redefining European cultural identity. Objectives: *to commission world class inter-cultural artworks & present them in different trans-national settings *to support 'bottom up' or 'citizen' creativity & innovation, & provide pathways from 'prosumer' to professional *to test different engagement methods & engage large s of people by staging a series of events that are themselves experimental & involved in nurturing new cultural forms & technologies. * To increase the mobility of artists, audiences & professionals * To explore new methods of artistic collaboration, with a focus on advanced sound & related arts * To build stronger trans-eu connections by consolidating the ECAS network * To explore new methods of collaboration for people working working in the cultural sector.

IMAGINE Arts and Climate Change IMAGINE ARTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE Climate Change is the greatest challenges of the 21st century. Eleven arts organisations in nine European countries share a sense of responsibility to rise up to this challenge and harness the power of the imagination to bring about change required for the re-invention of modern society. They will use their passion, their expertise, and their connections within the art world and beyond to engage the European cultural sector and use its creative potential to raise awareness, involving the public both as audience and as participants. Objectives To research the unique role European artists/arts organisations can play as catalyst for change To practice environmentally sustainable ways of producing /touring while maintaining trans-national mobility of artists/art works To create unexpected spaces for dialogue between arts, science, and civil society To contribute to the cultural memory of this crucial time Results A strong body of innovative artistic work addressing Climate Change A consolidation of cultural initiatives to become an important voice in the European Climate Change debate Awareness among diverse audiences and change in their behaviour A set of tools for artists/arts institutions to integrate Climate Change concerns in their working practices Implementation CREATE: joint commissions, presentations/festivals, exhibitions, residencies, touring CONNECT: conferences, seminars, debates, campaigns LEARN and EXCHANGE: workshops, summer schools, artist mentoring, advise on structural change, Transition Theatre Camps, resource centre/web-site COMMUNICATE and DOCUMENT: on-going documentation plus print-on-demand publication, European communications strategy, new means of communication Target Groups Artists, arts professionals, scientists, civil society partners, local/national/eu policy makers, young people, general public Partners Producers, art schools, universities, researchers, NGOs, government, business, media

CULTURE AND NATURE: THE EUROPEAN HERITAGE OF SHEEP FARMING AND PASTORAL LIFE A. Promotion of young interpreters in Europe (Rising Stars) B. Organization of training sessions for staff members of EU concert halls C. Artistic platform for the elaboration of new programmes and new productions The project aims to study and interpret the cultural heritage of pastoral life, with emphasis on the sheep and the shepherd, from a social, economic, ecological and artistic perspective. Shepherding and pastoral life have been connected with a rich cultural tradition, which includes a variety of cultural objects, material and non-material; it is also worth noting that sheep keeping plays a key role in environmental protection, including natural maintenance of less fertile areas, preservation of sensible ecosystems etc The project brings together 9 organisations from 8 European countries, undertaking several wide ranging activities of transnational nature: 9 workshops of museum professionals and other related cultural operators; 2 international conferences; 7 transnational exhibitions on characteristic themes of pastoral culture (handicrafts, vernacular architecture, oral traditions, traditional lifestyles, food processing and cooking, landscape features, art etc); one wide-ranging composite exhibitions that brings all thematics together in Budapest; 11 multilingual core publications presenting the exhibitions and specialist aspects of pastoral life; electronic research publications and conference proceedings. The project also undertakes three innovative initiatives: an educational initiative, based on a Games-based Learning (GBL) application, addressing secondary school students; a networking initiative, addressing the ethnographic community, involving the set up of a virtual community focusing on pastoral heritage; and a virtual museum initiative, offering an interactive visit to 6 museums with sections devoted to the sheep and to all the exhibitions created by the project, complemented by an integrated information environment detailing exhibits and giving access to supportive publications on specialist topics. The project is led by the Hungarian Open Air Museum, with coorganisers from Greece, France, Poland, Bulgaria, Estonia, Italy and Spain. Since 1991 ECHO exists as a small group of closely related concert halls that worked in the same region. They were convinced that it was to the benefit of all partners to collaborate and exchange information on the programmes and artists they invited and the way they worked. This collaboration is based on a shared mission that combines the search for the highest artistic quality with a strong commitment for the social and intercultural role they play as leading cultural institution in the EU. ECHO members thus want, for the largest possible audience and for all cultures/regions - to explore, open up and preserve music repertoire - to stimulate and participate new (music) creation - to stimulate the best music practice at all levels. For this members are committed - to develop new artistic projects - to commission new work - to promote young artists - to organize the reference concerts - to exchange know how and information - to develop training programmes for the staff - to do common lobbying To realize this, ECHO decided to develop three projects: 1) ECHO will function as an artistic platform, facilitating joint productions and developing new formats. This holds the development of a good information management, regular meetings with all artistic directors and the follow up of the projects. 2) ECHO will continue and expand the Rising Stars programme. Expanding comprises different aspects: negotiation with music labels; better communication (including an up-to-date website), and above all expanding the of Rising Stars, included artists from other European countries and offering the complete programme to non-echo members. 3) ECHO will develop and expand its function as a training platform by organizing training sessions in five fields. Education, marketing, funding, technique, artistic. These sessions will be open for all staff of other concert halls. For every item an online forum will be opened that will function as a platform for exchange of information
