If replacing all strings on a guitar that still has strings on it 1. Remove the top (low E ) string pin iii. If putting strings on a guitar with no strings 1. Remove all pins iv. Put pin(s) in a safe place, like a zip lock baggy, so they can be easily located later. c. Open the pack of new strings and locate and unpack the string you are attempting to replace i. Ie, if you are replacing the low E string, unpack that string and set the others aside ii. See diagram d. Unravel and extend the string along the length of the guitar noting that one end of the string gets more narrow while the other becomes attached to an eyelet e. Place the end of the string that is wound around the eyelet inside the groove on the guitar bridge where the bridge pin you just removed was located. f. Place the bridge pin back in the bridge hole, covering the string and aligning the groove in the base of the bridge pin with the portion new string that is still protruding from the bridge pin hole (make sure the part of the string attached to the eyelet is still in the bridge hole and covered by the bridge pin). Push bridge pin all the way down and pull the string so that there is no string slack left inside the bridge pin hole. g. Take the other end of the new string and extend it along the guitar neck toward the guitar headstock, placing the string into the correlating nut groove and pulling it through the correlating tuning machine hole i. Make sure you are pulling the string through the correct tuning machine hole - See diagram h. Once you have pulled the string through the tuning machine hole, pinch a portion of the string at about 2 above the tuning machine hole. Now slide the string back toward the bridge until your fingers hit the tuning machine. Bend the string into an L shape directly above the tuning machine hole. Use wire cutters and cut the excess string past the bend point. i. Once again, pull the string toward the headstock through the tuning machine hole. Begin turning the

15 Slide 7 (Continued) tuning machine (in the direction away from you) j. With one hand, press the string down onto the headstock so that you maintain tension, making it easier to manage the string while you tighten.
