ALWAYS CLAMP STOCK TO THE BENCH WHEN CUTTING WITH PORTABLE POWER TOOLS AND HAND TOOLS. WIDE BELT SANDER 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION TO OPERATE THIS MACHINE. 3. REMOVE JEWELRY AND SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING AND LONG HAIR. 4. KEEP ALL DOORS CLOSED ON THE MACHINE. 5. KEEP THE DUST COLLECTOR ON WHEN SANDING. 6. DO NOT ADJUST THE TABLE WHEN THE GAGE IS AT 50% OR OVER. 9. DO NOT OVERLAP THE BOARDS WHEN SANDING. 10. WHEN SANDING IS COMPLETED, TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE HEAD AND FEED AND DO NOT LEAVE THE MACHINE UNTIL IT HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. 2 P AGE

4 BAND SAW I CAN RESPECT AND OPERATE THE BAND SAW 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION BEFORE OPERATING THIS MACHINE. 2. REMOVE ALL JEWELRY AND SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING AND LONG HAIR. 3. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. 4. MAKE ALL ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE POWER OFF AND THE BLADE STOPPED. 5. DO NOT CUT METALS OR CYLINDRICAL STOCK. 6. DO NOT CUT MATERIAL THAT IS WARPED, CRACKED, WITH LOOSE KNOTS, OR IMBEDDED WITH FOREIGN OBJECTS. 7. ADJUST THE UPPER GUARD 1/8" TO 1/4" ABOVE THE WOOD BEING CUT. 8. WHEN USING THE BAND SAW, GIVE IT YOUR COMPLETE ATTENTION AND DO NOT BE DISTRACTED. 9. MAKE A MINIMUM OF BACK OUT CUTS; USE RELIEF CUTS WHEN NEEDED. 10. BE SURE THE MACHINE HAS STOPPED BEFORE BACKING OUT OF A LONG CUT. 11. WHEN SAWING SHARP CURVES, YOU SHOULD FEED THE WORK MORE SLOWLY, MAKE RELIEF CUTS, BACK THE BLADE OUT WHEN THE BLADE BINDS, AND ALWAYS PUSH STRAIGHT FORWARD WHEN TURNING THE STOCK. 12. NEVER ALLOW YOUR HANDS AND FINGERS TO COME CLOSER THAN 4 FROM THE PATH OF THE BLADE AND NEVER DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE BLADE. 13. IF HELP IS NEEDED FOR CUTTING LARGE STOCK, HAVE THE HELPER BALANCE THE WOOD AND NOT CONTROL IT. 14. STOCK MUST BE FIRMLY HELD AND FLAT AGAINST THE TABLE. 15. IF THE BLADE BREAKS WHILE CUTTING, IMMEDIATELY STAND CLEAR, THEN TURN OFF THE SAW. NOTIFY THE INSTRUCTOR. 16. A SOUND OF REGULAR CLICKS MAY INDICATE A CRACKED BLADE OR A BLADE OFF TRACK. TURN OFF THE POWER. ALLOW THE BLADE TO STOP. THEN NOTIFY THE INSTRUCTOR. 17. WHEN CUTTING IS COMPLETED, TURN OFF THE POWER AND DO NOT LEAVE THE MACHINE UNTIL THE BLADE HAS STOPPED. 18. DO NOT REMOVE SCRAP MATERIALS FROM THE TABLE UNTIL THE BLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. PLEASE USE A HAND BRUSH TO REMOVE ALL MATERIAL FROM THE TABLE. 3 P AGE

5 MITER SAW 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION BEFORE USING THE MACHINE. 3. REMOVE ALL JEWELRY AND SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING AND LONG HAIR. 4. MAKE ALL ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE BLADE STOPPED. 5. KEEP HANDS 6" AWAY FROM THE PATH OF THE BLADE. 6. NEVER CROSS YOU ARMS WHEN CUTTING. 7. MAKE SURE THE GUARD IS IN PLACE AND WORKING PROPERLY BEFORE CUTTING. 8. DO NOT CUT CYLINDRICAL STOCK. 9. CROSSCUT AND MITER ONLY. 10. BEFORE CUTTING, HOLD THE STOCK BETWEEN THE STOP AND BLADE. 11. ALLOW THE SAW TO OBTAIN FULL SPEED BEFORE CUTTING. DO NOT CUT TO FAST!!! 12. WHEN CUTTING, HOLD THE HANDLE WITH A FIRM GRIP AND WITH AN EVEN STROKE. 13. RETURN THE SAW TO THE TOP POSITION AFTER EACH CUT. 14. BE SURE THE BLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE LEAVING THE SAW. 15. DO NOT CUT OR ATTEMPT TO STOP THE BLADE WHEN IT IS COASTING. UP-CUT SAW 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION BEFORE USING THIS MACHINE. 3. REMOVE ALL JEWELRY AND SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING AND LONG HAIR. 4. MAKE ALL ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE BLADE STOPPED. 5. ALLOW THE SAW TO OBTAIN FULL SPEED BEFORE CUTTING. 6. MAKE SURE TO KEEP HANDS CLEAR OF THE ORANGE SAFETY ZONES. THE HOLDING CLAMP IS USED TO HOLD THE WORK PIECE DOWN ON THE TABLE. 7. FOR ACCURATE CUTS, MAKE SURE THE SAW TABLE IS CLEAN AND THAT THE WORK PIECE IS PUSHED FIRMLY AGAINST THE FENCE. 4 P AGE

6 JOINTER 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION BEFORE USING THE MACHINE. 3. REMOVE ALL JEWELRY AND SECURE ALL LOOSE CLOTHING AND LONG HAIR. 4. MAKE ALL ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE POWER OFF AND THE KNIVES STOPPED. 5. BE SURE ALL GUARDS ARE IN PLACE AND THE KNIVES COVERED. 6. JOINT ONLY THE EDGE OF A BOARD AND WITH A MAXIMUM CUT OF 1/16" DEEP. 7. DO NOT JOINT THE FACE OF A BOARD OR END GRAIN. 8. THE MINIMUM WIDTH OF A BOARD TO BE JOINTED WITHOUT THE USE OF A PUSH STICK IS 6". 9. THE MINIMUM LENGTH OF A BOARD TO BE JOINTED IS 12". 10. DO NOT JOINT A BOARD THAT IS LESS THAN 2" WIDE. 11. ALWAYS FEED THE STOCK WITH THE GRAIN, NEVER AGAINST THE GRAIN. 12. WHEN JOINTING, KEEP THE LUMBER TIGHT AGAINST THE FENCE AND ON THE TABLE. 13. DO NOT USE TWISTED LUMBER, OR LUMBER THAT HAS LOOSE KNOTS, OR IS IMBEDDED WITH FOREIGN OBJECTS. 14. WHEN JOINTING A BOARD WITH A CROOK OR CROWN, JOINT IT WITH THE TWO ENDS TOUCHING THE TABLE (REMEMBER: RAINBOW DOWN). 15. WHEN JOINTING A BOARD, USE PROPER HAND AND BODY POSITIONING. a. (EXAMPLES: FINGERS MUST NOT POINT DOWN TOWARD KNIVES AND b. ALWAYS PUSH FROM BEHIND THE BOARD FROM RIGHT TO LEFT.) 16. DO NOT JOINT PLYWOOD OR PARTICLE BOARD UNLESS SPECIAL PERMISSION IS GIVEN BY THE INSTRUCTOR. 17. MAKE SURE THE DUST COLLECTOR IS ON WHEN SURFACING. 8. DO NOT PUT YOU FINGERS BETWEEN THE BOARD AND THE EDGE OF THE INFEED OR OUTFEED TABLE. 9. LUMBER THAT IS TWISTED, WITH LOOSE KNOTS, OR IS IMBEDDED WITH FOREIGN OBJECTS MUST NOT BE SURFACED. 10. DO NOT SURFACE LUMBER ACROSS OR AGAINST THE GRAIN. 11. TWO BOARDS AT SIMILAR THICKNESS MAY BE SURFACED SIDE BY SIDE. 12. LONG BOARDS SHOULD BE SUPPORTED AT THE ENDS WHEN SURFACING. 13. ALTERNATE THE FACE OF THE BOARD BEING SURFACED TO ELIMINATE WARPAGE. 14. NEVER LOOK INSIDE THE MACHINE WHEN MACHINE IS RUNNING. 15. SAW BLADE MUST BE SET 1/8" TO 1/4" ABOVE THE WOOD TO BE CUT. 7. NEVER CUT TWISTED LUMBER, WITH LOOSE KNOTS OR IMBEDDED WITH FOREIGN OBJECTS. 8. DO NOT CUT BOARDS THAT ARE LESS THAN 12" LONG. 9. RIP CUT ONLY. DO NOT CROSSCUT. 10. DO NOT CUT CYLINDRICAL STOCK. 11. ALWAYS HAVE PUSH STICK READY BEFORE CUTTING BEGINS. 12. NEVER CUT UNTIL THE SAW HAS ATTAINED FULL SPEED. 13. BE SURE THE FENCE IS LOCKED INTO POSITION BEFORE RIPPING. 14. WHEN CUTTING, GIVE IT ALL OF YOUR ATTENTION AND DO NO BE DISTRACTED. 15. WHEN RIPPING, ONE EDGE OF THE WOOD MUST BE STRAIGHT AND HELD TIGHT AGAINST THE FENCE. YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE FLAT FACE. 16. WHEN CUTTING, USE PROPER HAND AND BODY POSITIONING. 17. PUSH THE WOOD COMPLETELY PAST THE BLADE, SPLITTER, AND GUARD BEFORE RELEASING. 18. NEVER REACH ACROSS THE BLADE. 19. WHEN THE FENCE AND BLADE ARE 6" APART OR LESS A PUSH STICK MUST BE USED. 20. DO NOT RIP LUMBER WHEN THE FENCE AND BLADE ARE CLOSER THAN 1½" OR LESS APART. 21. WHEN A HELPER IS NEEDED TO SUPPORT LONG PANELS OR STOCK, HE MUST ONLY SUPPORT AND NOT TRY TO PUSH OR PULL. 22. MAKE ALL ADJUSTMENTS WITH TABLE AND BIT WITH THE POWER OFF AND THE MACHINE STOPPED. 5. CENTER THE BIT IN THE CHUCK BEFORE TIGHTENING. 6. FREEHAND DRILLING MUST BE CENTER PUNCHED. 7. DO NOT FORCE THE BIT INTO THE STOCK. 8. ALWAYS REMOVE THE CHUCK KEY AFTER TIGHTENING THE CHUCK. 9. MAKE SURE THE SPEED SETTING IS CORRECT FOR THE DRILLING TO BE DONE. 10. POSITION THE TABLE AND ADJUST THE FEED LEVER TO KEEP THE BIT FROM STRIKING THE TABLE. 11. THE STOCK MUST BE CLAMPED TO THE TABLE WHEN DRILLING SMALL, IRREGULAR OR SHAPED PIECES, OR WHEN DRILLING HOLES LARGER THE ½" DIAMETER. 12. CYLINDRICAL STOCK SHOULD BE DRILLED ON A V-BLOCK. 13. BACK THE BIT OUT OF THE WOOD FREQUENTLY TO FREE THE CHIPS WHEN DRILLING DEEP HOLES. 14. WHEN DRILLING IS COMPLETED, TURN OFF THE POWER AND ALLOW THE MACHINE TO STOP BEFORE CLEANING OFF THE TABLE AND LEAVING THE MACHINE. LATHE 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION TO OPERATE THIS MACHINE. 3. REMOVE ALL JEWELRY AND SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING AND HAIR 4. MAKE ALL ADJUSTMENTS TO THE LATHE WHEN TURNED OFF. ALWAYS ROTATE THE WORKPIECE BY HAND BEFORE STARTING TO CHECK CLEARANCE BEFORE BEGGINNING. 5. THE TOOL REST MUST BE ADJUSTED SO THAT THE STOCK IS 1/8 AWAY AND RIGHT AT, OR SLIGHTLY BELOW THE CENTER LINE OF THE STOCK. 6. ALL LATHE TOOLS SHOULD BE HELD ON THE TOOL REST WITH BOTH HANDS. 8 P AGE

10 DISK / VERTICAL BELT SANDER 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION BEFORE USING THIS SANDER. 3. REMOVE ALL JEWELRY AND SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING AND LONG HAIR. 4. ALLOW THE SANDER TO OBTAIN FULL SPEED BEFORE USING. 5. SAND ONLY ON THE DOWNSTROKE SIDE OF THE DISK. 6. MAKE ALL ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE POWER OFF AND SANDER STOPPED. 7. BEFORE TURNING THE SANDER ON, CHECK FOR ANY TORN OR LOOSE PAPER. 8. NEVER SAND STOCK THAT ALLOWS YOU TO COME CLOSER THAN 4" FROM THE ABRASIVE DISK. 9. DO NOT FORCE STOCK AGAINST THE SANDING DISK. 10. NEVER SAND STOCK THAT MAY JAM BETWEEN THE TABLE AND DISK. 11. HOLD THE STOCK FIRMLY ON THE TABLE WHEN SANDING. 12. DO NOT SAND STOCK ON JUST ONE SECTION OF THE DISK. MOVE THE STOCK FROM SIDE TO SIDE TO PREVENT THE ABRASIVE FROM BURNING AND RIPPING. 13. BEFORE LEAVING THE SANDER, TURN OFF THE POWER AND ALLOW IT TO STOP. 14. ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE SANDER MAY BE USED AT A TIME. SPINDLE SANDER 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION BEFORE OPERATING THIS MACHINE. 3. REMOVE ALL JEWELRY AND SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING AND LONG HAIR. 4. ALWAYS USE THE CORRECT TABLE INSERT PLATE FOR THE SPINDLE USED. 5. MAKE SURE THE TABLE IS LOCKED INTO POSITION. 6. IF THE SANDING SLEEVE IS TORN, REPLACE IT BEFORE USING. 7. HOLD THE STOCK FIRMLY ON THE TABLE WHEN SANDING. 8. DO NOT FORCE THE STOCK INTO THE SPINDLE. 9. DO NOT SAND INSIDE FULL CIRCLE HOLES WITHOUT INSTRUCTOR S APPROVAL. 10. ALWAYS KEEP THE TABLE CLEAR FROM ITEMS NOT BEING SANDED. 11. AFTER SANDING, TURN OFF THE POWER AND ALLOW THE SANDER TO STOP BEFORE LEAVING. 9 P AGE

11 PNEUMATIC NAIL/STAPLE GUNS 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION BEFORE USING THE PNEUMATIC GUNS. 3. DO NOT BE DISTRACTED WHEN USING THE GUNS. 4. ALWAYS USE THE PROPER GUN WITH THE CORRECT NAILS OR STAPLES FOR THE JOB TO BE DONE. 5. WHEN CONNECTING THE GUN TO THE AIR HOSE, ALWAYS POINT THE GUN DOWNWARD AND AWAY FROM PEOPLE. 6. ONLY FIRE THE GUN ON APPROVED MATERIAL. 7. KEEP YOU FREE HAND AWAY FROM THE NAILING AREA. 8. HOLD THE GUN FIRMLY ON THE MATERIAL BEFORE FIRING. 9. WHEN NAILING IS COMPLETED DISCONNECT THE GUN FROM THE AIR HOSE. COMPRESSED AIR 1. OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR S PERMISSION TO USE COMPRESSED AIR. 3. REMOVE JEWELRY AND SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING AND LONG HAIR. 4. DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN OFF YOUR CLOTHING. 5. DISCONNECT TOOLS WHEN NOT IN USE. 6. REPORT ANY CRACKS IN THE HOSE OR AIR LEAKS. 7. ROLL UP HOSES AND PUT THEM AWAY AFTER USE. 10 P AGE

KEEP THE ROUTER BIT AWAY FROM MATERIAL WHEN TURNING ON THE POWER. 8. ROUTER COUNTER CLOCKWISE AND ALWAYS ROUTE END GRAIN FIRST. 9. WHEN ROUTING, HOLD THE ROUTER FIRMLY ON THE MATERIAL. 10.
