1 SPEC / 1.0 APPLICATION This specification describes the minimum requirements for piping systems for the following service: Instrument Air Design Conditions F Operating Conditions F to 180 F Design, Fabrication, Installation, Approval Requirements ASME B31.1 CSA B51 SPEC SPEC SPEC System Approvals Power Piping Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping Code Piping Classification and Identification Identify and paint the piping system according to the requirements indicated on the project drawings or the scope of work. Piping General Requirements Quality Requirements Piping systems are subject to the approval of TSSA, Boilers and Pressure Vessels Safety Division. 2.0 MATERIALS 2" & Smaller Schedule 80 per ASME B3.10, carbon steel ASTM A53 Gr. B, ERW or seamless OR ASTM A10 Gr. B, T & C ends. Pipe Fittings 2 ½ " through 10" Schedule 40 per ASME B3.10, carbon steel ASTM A53 Gr. B, ERW or seamless or ASTM A10 Gr. B, beveled ends 12" through 1" 0.375" thick wall per ASME B3.10, carbon steel ASTM A53 Gr. B, ERW or seamless OR ASTM A10 Gr. B, beveled ends. 2" & Smaller Class 150 malleable iron per ASME B1.3, ASTM A197, threaded and banded or Class 3000 per ASME 1.11, forged carbon steel, ASTM A105, threaded and banded

Do Not Use Wet Sealants. 1/1" thick ring type - inside bolts, non-asbestos, synthetic fibre, nitrile bonding. Dimensions to ASME B1.21. Gasket dope is not permitted. Blue-Gard, Style 3000 by Garlock Klingersil, Style C-4433 NST by Robco Durlon, Style 8500 by Durabla or equal Alloy steel stud bolt to ASTM A193 GR.B7 full length thread, with 2 heavy series hex nuts to ASTM A194 Gr. 2H with Class 2A fit on bolts and 2B fit on nuts. Dimensions to ASME B1.1, B and ASME B Essential variables in accordance with Vale Engineering Specification SPEC All sizes: WP1 or WP3. Note: Alternative welding process shall be approved by Vale, prior to start of work. Lug style butterfly valves with through tapped holes to be used in dead end service or where line blinds are used for maintenance purposes. 2. 4 SPEC / Filters Selection by Vale Instrumentation Department. 3.0 TESTING Testing must be the requirements of ASME B31.1 and PROC-8300 (hydrostatic testing) or SPEC (pneumatic testing only at the discretion of the Engineer) and specific instructions in the scope of work. Test Pressure Duration Additional Requirements 225 PSIG Per Code none 4.0 EXAMINATION AND INSPECTION Examination and inspection must meet the requirements of ASME B31.1 and specific instructions in the scope of work. 100% visual examination for all sizes and thicknesses is required. 5.0 CLEANING Clean systems in accordance with the following procedure. 1. Following completion of hydrostatic testing, drain the test fluid at a rate of flow sufficient to flush debris or foreign materials from the system. 2. When all liquid has been drained from the line, including all pockets or low points, connect the line to the outlet of the instrument air compressor, with air dryers by-passed, and blow-out the line with instrument air. Vent the discharge at a location where no possibility of hazard to personnel exists. Continue this process until air discharging from the line contains no more moisture than at the compressor discharge. Blow-out the lines in sequence from the largest to the smallest. 3. Disconnect the bypass around the instrument air dryer. Blow instrument air through the line at a rate not greater than the capacity of the air dryer until air discharged from the line has a dew point equal to that at dryer outlet..0 APPENDICES Appendix A: Branch Connections
