People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare to make a roof frame and panels to fit to a vehicle in the coachbuilding industry; measure and mark out the roof frame and panels; lay out, and assemble the roof frame, and fit roof frame to the vehicle; and cut and fit panels to the vehicle. These requirements include but are not limited to company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative Suitable tools and equipment means industry approved tools and equipment that are recognised within the industry as being the most suited to complete the task in a professional and competent manner with due regard to safe working practices. 4 Engineering approvals Modifications and/or repairs to heavy vehicle structures may require engineer s design. Completed modifications and/or repairs in this standard must also be certified by a Heavy Vehicle Specialist Inspector as meeting Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Prepare to make a roof frame and panels to fit to a vehicle in the coachbuilding industry. 1.1 Customer requirements are verified and checked in accordance with company 1.2 Any required engineering approvals are identified in accordance with legislative 1.3 Loading and roll-over requirements of the roof are identified in accordance with legislative 1.4 Type of roof frame is identified in accordance with company square cornered, curved cants, over-cab. 1.5 Suitable tools and equipment for making roof panels and frames are selected in accordance with company may include but is not limited to hand tools, welding equipment, drills, clamps, alignment and measuring systems, metal cutting equipment, fastening systems, markers, stands. 1.6 Materials used to make the roof frame and panels are selected and procured in accordance with company may include but is not limited to mild steel, high strength steel, ultra-high strength steel, galvanised steel, aluminium, composite.
