2 Eagles Nest Assembly Manual revised 9/2/05 Dear Customer, Thank you for your purchase of our Eagles Nest. The craftsmanship and detail in this product is unmatched. This manual is designed to simplify the assembly process, however we strongly recommend having a carpenter involved in the project. Please read through the entire manual before starting!! It took 1 man, 3 hours, using the tools listed below, to assemble this unit. However, it will probably take you a little longer since it will be a new project for you. Take a deep breath and get at it, the satisfaction and enjoyment of this play set is only a few hours away. Have Fun!!!!! Remember, it is very important that you have a level site for your Play set. You have purchased a product that consists of heavy, bulky pieces. With your purchase, you assume full responsibility to have the necessary manpower and/or equipment available to unload the items. You also agree that any damage that happens to the equipment, product, or individuals during the unloading process, or during the entire construction process, is your responsibility, and neither the seller, nor the manufacturer, will be held liable for any such damage. TOOLS NEEDED: -7/16,1/2,9/16, and 3/4 deep sockets with 1/2 drive -3/4 wrench -Hammer -Medium vise grip pliers -#2 phillips and square drive screwdrivers or bits -Screw gun -Paint brushes (for touch-up) -utility knife -eight foot step ladder -2ft level -square HELPFUL TOOLS: -Impact wrench with 1/2 drive -Air compressor

3 Step 1 Eagle s Nest Loft kit. Step 2 Separate hardware according to shapes and sizes. Step 3 Take parts out of floor and base, and separate different parts. Step 4 Set base and floor on side making sure attachment holes line up for posts. Step 5 The front of the floor has three post holes on a four foot side. The middle hole is for a half post, and does not have any attachment holes at base. Step 6 Insert two 90 1/2 posts in front corners. Insert 107 posts in four back holes, turn recessed holes towards inside. Step 7 Insert 1/2 x 5 carriage bolts through base into posts. Step 8 Lift base and insert 1/2 x5 carriage bolts. Step 9 Insert bolts through floor into posts. Need help? call page 3

4 Step 10 Secure bolts with 1/2 washers, then lock nuts, and then nuts. Step 11 Stand set up on base. Step 12 Install half post in front. Secure with two 1/2 x5 carriage bolts. Step 13 Level base, checking front to back and side to side. Step 14 Square corners and tighten nuts on posts before installing 17 braces. Step 15 Secure 17 braces, with 3/8 x4 lag bolts; squarely underneath floor and against posts at each corner of the play set. Step 16 Secure top of braces with #10x3 1/2 screws through floor into braces at 1 1/2 and 3 above where they meet. Step 17 Position 5 rung ladder at back right side opening. Step 18 Secure 5 rung ladder with two 3/8 x4 lag bolts through top holes in ladder. Top rung should be flush with deck.

5 Step 19 Install fences between posts according to sizes. Do not install fences at right side back, and front side right openings. Step 20 Secure each fence with six #8x2 screws, place at top,middle, and bottom through both sides of fence into 4x4 posts. Step 21 Opening at front side right is for Super Scoop Slide. Step 22 Install 2x4 for tarp frame at back side of rear post center 2x4 lining pre-drilled holes to center of posts. Install under chipped top end of posts. Step 23 Install 2x4 at front side of middle posts. Secure with #10x3 1/2 screws, two at each side. Step 24 Install 39 3/4 2x4s between the ends of the 2x4s. Secure with two #10x3 1/2 screws at four corners of tarp frame. Step 25 Install 4x4x33 chipped side flush with bottom of 2x4 in center of tarp frame, at front and back. This is for the ridge beam supports. Step 26 Secure ridge beam supports with two 2x4x9 braces. Keep rounded sides down. Step 27 Check ridge beam supports with square. Need help? call page 5

6 Step 28 Secure corners of tarp frame with four 2x4x9 3/4 braces, keeping them flush with top of tarp frame. Step 29 Secure ridge beam between supports with two #10x3 1/2 screws at both ends from top, down into supports Step 30 Insert 1x2x31 strips through ends of tarp. Step 31 Drape tarp over ridge beam and ends of tarp frame. Step 32 Roll ends of tarp under 2x4s at both sides, and secure with three #8x2 screws. Step 33 Check to make sure all parts are secured correctly. Check under floor for any protruding screws or nails and remove any sharp objects. Step 34 Center Super Scoop Slide at front opening. Step 35 Secure slide with three 5/16 x1 1/4 lag bolts with 3/8 washers. Need help? call page 6

8 I n s t r u c t i o n s f o r p a i n t t o u c h u p o n a P i n n a c l e P l a y s e t A major benefit of purchasing a painted playset is that damage to the set via a pocket knife, etc. can be rectified with caulk and touch up paint. This also applies to the splitting and checking found in all outdoor wood products made from cedar, redwood, pine, etc. The splits seen in larger dimensional lumber are also known as checks and are more of a cosmetic concern than a structural concern. These generally occur in large lumber such as 4x4 s and 4x6 s. We have constructed this manual to assist you in repairing damages, general touch up associated with a painted set, and in filling checks that are less than 1/4 wide. Tools Needed - Paint scraper or putty knife - Touch-up paint - Sanding pad with 80 grit sandpaper - Paintbrush or small roller - Caulking gun with tube of acrylic latex caulk (fast drying non shrinking formulas work best)

9 Step 1: After cleaning the surface, slowly apply caulking into the check of the wood from one end to the other. The caulking should penetrate into the check and fill it up leaving little excess on the outside of the wood. Step 2: Remove excess caulking from wood with putty knife or scraper leaving a smooth surface over the check... Step 2 cont... leaving minimal excess caulk. Step 3: Allow caulking to dry according to manufacturers recommendation. If the repaired surface of the caulking seems to have shrunk into the check, apply a second coat of caulk and allow time to dry. Step 4: When caulking has dried, sand surface lightly with sanding pad to remove excess caulk. The acrylic latex paint we use tends to stay soft and pliable. Sand with light quick strokes, being careful not to remove original coat of paint. Step 5: When applying touch-up paint to wood, apply a thick coat of paint to cover area, smooth out with brush or roller and allow time to dry (generally less than 6 hours). The touch-up paint will work as a primer and a topcoat. Apply a second coat of paint after the first coat has dried. The second coat of paint is essential to provide long lasting protection and restore the repaired area to the same luster as the original paint.
