Remove the wood baluster sections being sure to remove any glue, debris and nails. (For stairway remodel only) the baluster locations, attach ball adaptor and round or rectangular socket to handrail and threaded disc to tread (or hanger bolt to kneewall). the space between the ball adaptor and threaded disc (or ball adaptor and top of hanger bolt for kneewall). Transfer this measurement to the iron baluster from the pin shoulder down the baluster. Trim each iron baluster from the bottom. the ball adapotor to the side and insert iron baluster pin top. Slide the base collar (or threaded ball adaptor for kneewall) onto the baluster bottom. baluster and collar over threaded disc (for kneewall align baluster and threaded ball adaptor over hanger bolt). Turn baluster to secure. Tighten set screws. 12 STANDARD IRON INSTALLATION! The steps below assume the handrail height is already determined and the handrail and treads are already predrilled to accept the iron balusters Step 1: Mark and trim each baluster from the bottom. Step 2: For rake balusters, drill a hole perpendicular through the top pin on every 6th baluster. For balcony balusters, drill the hole at an angle. Step 3: Countersink the hole to accept the screw head. Step 4: Apply construction adhesive in the predrilled holes in each tread. With a bottom base on each baluster, place all balusters in position on the treads. *Below left are alternate methods for securing iron balusters to the treads. Baluster Tread Baluster Tread Block Illustration A Illustration B * For a more secure baluster installation, drill through the bottom of the balusters & secure the baluster to the tread using a flat head screw (see ill. A). A stronger method is to place a 1¼ block beneath the tread. Drill through the tread & partially through the block to accept the baluster (see ill. B). The latter method will change the takeoff by requiring the addition of about 2 to the normal required baluster length. Step 5: Apply construction adhesive in the predrilled holes in the handrail. Position the handrail on top of the balusters. If top bases are being used, place one on each baluster before placing the handrail on top. Step 6: Securely attach every 6th baluster to the handrail using a flat self-tapping screw. Smooth the screw head with emery paper, then spot putty for painting. Step 7: Using an allen wrench secure each top base against the rail and each bottom base against the tread. Epoxy Adhesive Kits We offer the following Contractor (LI-3701, LI-3702 & LI-3703) and Job-Lot (LI-3704, LI-3705 & LI-3706) Epoxy Adhesive kits for installing our Balustrades. LI-3704 Job-Lot Kit includes Built-in Dispensing System, 5 oz. Adhesive Cartridge and nozzle. (Open work time is 6 minutes) LI-3701 Contractor Epoxy Adhesive (Open work time is 18 minutes) LI-3702 Contractor Injector Tool LI-3703 Contractor Epoxy Adhesive Mixing Nozzle LI-3706 Extra Nozzle for LI-3704 & LI-3705 LI-3705 Job-Lot Kit includes 5 oz.
