1 #11179 Wellington ARBOR Assembly INSTRUCTIONS TOOLS NEEDED Tape Measure Variable Speed Drill with #2 Phillips Bit (recommended) or Phillips Screwdriver Hammer or Mallet ARBOR SIDE PANEL ASSEMBLY (Refer to Drawing 1) (Make 2) On clean flat surface lay one 2 x 2 x 88 left post with the side with the eight routed holes facing up and the screw pilot holes facing you. Starting at the bottom of the post, insert one ⅞ x 1½ x 27½ outside cross rail (2 holes in one side) in the bottom hole. In the next two holes up from the bottom, insert two ⅞ x 1½ x 27½ inside cross rails (4 holes in one side, 2 holes in the other) with the 4 holed sides facing one another. Leaving the next two holes empty, insert two more ⅞ x 1½ x 27½ inside cross rails with the 4 holed sides facing one another. Insert a second ⅞ x 1½ x 27½ outside cross rail in the last hole. Using four of the 1 x 1 x 26½ rails, slide each through the outer most 1 x 1 holes in two inside rails and into the outside rail. (Refer to Drawing 2) Insert two ⅞ x 1½ x 27½ middle rails into the two remaining holes in the post, sliding the free end of each 1 x 1 x 26 rail into the middle rail. Set one 2 x 2 x 88 right post on top of the previous assembly and insert each rail into the routed holes. Flex the two inside cross rails to slide two 1 x 1 x 16 ¾ rails into the open holes. Do this on both the top and bottom of the side panel. Similarly, flex the two middle rails to slide two 1 x 1 x 12¾. Make sure all parts are inserted completely into both posts and fasten with ¾ screws. Snap screw caps over screw heads. ARBOR TOP ASSEMBLY (Refer to Drawing 3) Lay both side panels on there edge approximately 50" apart, with screw heads facing out and routed holes for corner braces facing in. Insert one of the 7/8 x 1 ½ x 18 corner brace pieces into the bottom side of the 1 ½ x 4 x 72 top rail. Working with the side closest to you, slide the 1 ½ x 4 x 72 top rail into the 4" slot on the top of the post. As you slide the top rail into its hole in the post, insert the corner brace into the 7/8 x 1 ½ hole routed in the post. Do the same procedure for opposite end of 72" rail. Flip arbor over and repeat for other 72" rail. The measurement from the longest peak of top rail to the outside of the 2 x 2 leg should be 9. Make sure measurement of top rail is correct on both sides. Using 1 ¼ screws fasten corner braces, top rail and side panels together, snap screw caps over screw heads. Lay the 7/8 x 1 ½ x 41 top cross rails into place on top of the top rails, using the pilot holes for screws as your guide. 2 FINISHING TOUCHES Apply glue to the inside edges of the 5 3/8 end caps and push them onto the ends of the 72" rails; do not slide from ends. Apply glue to inside edges of the 2 x 2 post caps for arbor posts; the arrowhead caps for on top of 1 x 1 square rails and the 7/8 x 1 ½ end caps for top cross rails on arbor top. 6 2 sq. post arbor ground anchor Assembly & installation Instructions Parts List: Description Qty 16 L-channel Ground Anchor 4 1 Self-tapping White-head Screws 8 Option 1 (soft ground) Slide one 16 steel L-channel ground anchor into bottom of each post. Slide ground anchor up to bottom cross rail. Using two 1 selftapping white-head screws per post, screw post to ground anchor (figure 1). When fastening, use one screw per side where ground anchor meets post. For added support fasten screws with at least two inches vertically between them. Option 2 (hard ground) Measure distances between posts and mark ground accordingly. Pound 16 steel L-channel ground anchors into ground according to measurements and basic layout (figure 2), leaving about 4 inches of ground anchor exposed. When pounding into ground, use block of wood to prevent ground anchor from bending. Slide arbor over ground anchors. Using two 1 self-tapping white-head screws per post screw post to ground anchor (figure 1). When fastening, use one screw per side where ground anchor meets post. For added support fasten screws with at least two inches vertically between them. Dig holes 12 deep according to measurements and basic layout (figure 2). Fill with cement and place 16 steel L-channel ground anchors in wet cement. Be sure that ground anchors are straight and in accordance with measurements of arbor posts. Allow cement to dry. NOTE: There is very little room for error with this installation method. Slide arbor over ground anchors. Using two 1 self-tapping white-head screws per post screw post to ground anchor (figure 1). When fastening, use one screw per side where ground anchor meets post. For added support fasten screws with at least two inches vertically between them.
