1 2018 StairCraft Awards Aesthetic value: Free-standing quadruple stacked curved stairways elegantly designed with reclaimed oak salvaged from historic barns to be the focal point of an engineering feat with the intent of an inviting entry. Stair safety: Code compliant stairway and balustrade with a continuous graspable rail from the basement unremittent to the fourth floor with a consistent and extremely comfortable walk-line constructed to meet Kentucky Residential Code. Quality of workmanship: Diligent design melded with unsurpassed craftsmanship and seamless installation created with the illusion as if the house were built around the quadruple stairway system, assembled with a tolerance of less than 1/32. Technical challenge: Despite being double open, 60 wide and freestanding, with only two attachment points and a 220-degree rotation this stair possesses great structural reliability while maintaining its ever so graceful appearance. 2 2018 StairCraft Awards Aesthetic value: This beautiful elliptical stairway features American black walnut bowed treads with Hoduran mahogany handrails Stair safety: Creating a code compliant walk line throughout the elliptical staircase and a guardrail with the minimal use of newels while still conforming with required load requirements. Quality of workmanship: Exceptional artisanship used in color matching the walnut treads, and preparing the solid Mahogany blocks for the banister. Precision assembly and installation was required to meet all the prefabricated trim components used in the foyer. Technical challenge: Coordinating with the carpentry contractor to assure proper framing of the elliptical outside wall with a radius return by the first four risers proved challenging. Entry 26

3 Aesthetic value: The drama of a continuous 6 story well opening can be breathtaking. Comimnged lower traditional stairs with an upper penthouse mono beam modern stair screams Ying & Yang is alive and well. Stair safety: We designed with 11 + runs and 6 ½ shallow risers for a more gradual pitch climb. All the local municipality codes were followed. Quality of workmanship: Designed helical mid-landing corners to keep drama flowing on profiled curb stringers and custom forged panel work. Forged with bronze top rail & custom bronze castings all continuous with no vertical newels or stanchions. Technical challenge: The design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of entire 6 story stair project required immense amounts of planning and coordination over a 4 year time period. 4 Aesthetic value: No detail was overlooked in this stair and all elements tie together. Similar designs can be found in the handrail, curb stringer cap and paneling, wall stringer, fascia and the custom turned post. Stair safety: LED stringer lighting was planned at every other tread to provide added safety when walking the dark stained stair. Additional scrolls were welded into the baluster panels to reduce open spaces. Quality of workmanship: This stair is crafted entirely from 6/4 rift sawn white oak, with matching sliced veneer used in the side stringer paneling, and all was prefinished to match the wood flooring. Technical challenge: Floating landing is held down one rise to eliminate a landing in the stair. Climbing volute in the handrail ends in bishop cut post cap with parallel descending curb stringer that wraps into the post. Entry 30

Ebony stained white oak paired with clean white pallet Stair safety: Path of walk, grip able stock rail at a comfortable height Quality of workmanship: High end solid block hand wreathed rail parts and curb wall moldings Technical challenge: Helical curb wall, getting trim details to align with baseboards and wainscot details, no flex moldings used Entry 58
