1 The Lyra Double Double Mounting System Manual The Lyra DDMS is a device for quickly connecting two cylinders together. It is specifically designed for connecting a finder scope to a larger telescope without the need for holes, screws or tools. It also has no parts that can fall off and get lost in the dark. Instructions: Cautions Be careful when releasing springs and bungees as they can fly Hold on to them until the tension is released Quick Installation Instructions Attaching your Lyra with Bungee Pick location on your telescope Snap buckle around telescope tube Fit finder and snap buckle Attaching your Lyra with Springs Pick location on your telescope Pull springs around telescope tube and slip into J-slots Fit finder and slip springs into J-slots Aligning finder or camera Use any combination of the front or rear screws and upper or lower holes Removing your Lyra from your scope Just un snap the buckles or un clip springs from J-slots. Release slowly. We suggest you remove finder first or you can leave the Lyra attached to either your finder or scope. Maintenance No Routine maintenance, other than cleaning. No Lubrication necessary. If the Lyra gets gritty from prolonged salt exposure or blowing sand, just wash it off. You never need to paint your Lyra. It has a baked-on powder coated finish.

3 The Bungee & Rope (Regular Model) The main feature of the Lyra is how quickly it attaches to your equipment.

3 Parts of the Lyra 1 The Main Frame Is in three sections, the lower legs, the upper legs and the spine. 2 The Side Lock Buckles (2) The buckles release by pressing both sides simultaneously. 3 The Bungee & Rope (Regular Model) The main feature of the Lyra is how quickly it attaches to your equipment. It can attach equipment by both one bungee cord and buckles or by four springs or a combination of both. If you are using the bungee option, one side is a bungee and the other side is a rope. They attach by side release buckles. There are holes in the upper legs for the ropes. The rope and bungee are secured by knotting them in the bottom set of holes in the upper legs. The knots should be on the inside.

The tension of the bungee is set by tying a square or reef knot in the two ends of the rope and two ends of the bungee. You will want it to fit snugly to hold your scopes together.

Tie them first and them see how they fit, then remove and adjust accordingly. Repeat until you have it right and there is still enough give in the bungee to be able to buckle it. 4 The Springs (Deluxe Model) One side of the frame has four small holes the other side has four J- slots. Springs are set in the holes and then the J- slots for quick removal. The spring ends do not need to have hooks which can get caught on things. There is also a length of tubing. Cut sections to go over the springs to protect your scopes. 5 The Alignment Screws (4) In the parts bag, you will find four black 1.5 ¼-20 nylon screws and cap nuts. There are eight tapped holes in the upper legs. Select the upper or lower set depending on the diameter of the finder or camera you want to mount. Screw the screws part way in and then screw the cap nuts on the ends. This protects the screw threads and your finder. The screws should be perpendicular to the tube and not tangential. This puts them in compression mode and they will hold their alignment better. ( diagram on next page) Alignment Screws in both Upper and Lower holes

5 The screws should to be perpendicular to the finder and not at an angle 6 The Lower Feet The feet have holes in them for attaching the Lyra with screws. The holes are large enough for # 10 screws. You can easily screw it to the flat side of a square tube Dob. If you are not mounting it that way, you will want to put on the urethane rubber non slip pads. 7 The Rubber Pads (4) In the parts bag, you will find four black dots. They are the stick on non slip urethane pads If you need the pads and are not bolting on the frame, and you have been handling the frame, you should clean the feet with alcohol before sticking on the pads. Peel off the paper backing and stick to the bottom of the feet. The pads keep the Lyra from slipping or marring your telescope 8 The Gun Sight Eyes (2) There are two screw eyes included. You can use them in the second set of upper leg tapped holes on either side or on the bottom, in the two tapped holes in the spine as a gun sight type unity power finder. You can adjust them a little by screwing them in or out. 9 The Wrenches The spine has two holes that are designed to be used as a wrench. The bigger one is 3/8 th and the smaller one is ¼. You never know when a wrench may come in handy. 10 Bending the legs If you need to fit something together but you can t get it to work, you can carefully put the legs in a vise and bend the main frame. If you try to put the frame in the vise and bend the legs, they will tend to bend at the knot holes. Repeated bending of the knot holes may cause breakage. The Lyra is yours and feel free to bend, cut, drill and use it any way that works for you, but it does void the warrantee. The military model is made from 304 stainless steel and can not be drilled, cut or bent by household tools. 11 Use as a simple scope mount with a tripod The spine has a center hole that is tapped for mounting to a photographic tripod. Secure the Lyra to the tripod, then you can quickly buckle a small scope to the Lyra. 12 Spine Holes There are lots of holes in the spine. They fit the universal hole pattern in many of the DynaPod products. How you connect them is only limited by your imagination.
