1 3 rd scale Fokker D6 Biplane kit The Fokker D6 biplane is one of the best kept Fokker secrets around. It is a seldom seen model that is a hybrid of the Fokker D7 and Dr1 airplanes. In that, the fuselage is very similar to the Fokker Dr1 and the two wings are the base design for the Fokker D7 wings. This combination makes this model a real gem to fly and handle. The CG is low to the ground and the thick airfoil gives this plane the lift and stability a pilot looks for. With good pilot visibility this plane was known as a pilot s plane during WW1. This model kit is rich in detail and scale fidelity; from the basswood-balsa spars to the scale hinges this kit will offer the builder a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction. Every Fokker D6 left the factory covered in lozenge fabric mostly four color. Some subjects used a combination of four and five color lozenge fabric. Fabric is not included with the kit but when you are ready you can select which lozenge scheme you would like. The kit contains a building and a reference set of plans which call out each part number and include details showing how parts assemble. The Fokker D6 is not a complicated build. The photo instructions ensure easy understanding and related information for builders at all different levels. The firewall can slide forward and backward to accommodate several different engines. Builders of this model have used electric power to radial gas engines. The wings go together like a puzzle; the spar webs are pre-cut and the ribs have tabs so you can build it flat. Both wings are one piece but builders have built the top wing in two pieces. The Fokker D6 assembles and dis-assembles easily. The top wing is remove with eight bolts; the bottom wing drops down and the remaining components will travel well in all different size vehicles; which makes this model easy to take to the field. This kit can be built for the Sunday flier or for the serious competitor, all the detail is there. The Fokker D6 is an excellent flying and ground handling machine. This model will weigh around 40lbs or lighter depending on your building techniques. You will notice that the kit has maintained the original outlines and building styles, such as, the saw-tooth covering, bungee systems, metal hoods, scale hinges and functional cowling. You can choose to build the fuselage with dowels or square sticks. The prototype successfully used dowels which recreates the metal tubing look quite effective.
