4 Remove the Box Cover The cover and the box base are made from plastic and joined together by snap fit joints, no fasteners found. 4

5 Remove the Printed Circuit Board Four 1.6x3.5, flat head PHILLIPS 0#, Black Electroless Nickel Plating finished self-tapping screws are threaded into the plastic bosses so as to fasten the Printed Circuit Board. Boss 5

6 Remove the SS Made Metal Part Four patch furnitured flat head M3x2.5, TORX T8, Copper-Nickel finished screws are threaded into the brass inserts so as to fasten the metal part. Insert 6

7 Remove the Inserters Four outer diameter of 4.5mm with overall Length of 2.7mm straight knurled M3 brass inserters are molded into the plastic part, by which the four flat head M3x2.5 screws will be threaded into. 7

18 Fastener Summary In the whole disassembly, we found both the MI HDTV Interactive Set-Top Box and the Remote use three flat head self-tapping screws, one brass threaded inserter and a few snap fit joints to secure the parts. 20 Alternate Solutions Micro Screws alternate solution: PEM can provide all of the three flat head self-tapping screws with different design solutions. PEM has license with Torx, Torx Plus, and Phillips Drive System, RemForm thread profile and has capability to do both Zinc and Nickel plating. 20

21 Alternate Solutions Brass Inserts alternate solution: PEM can provide different sizes and installation brass inserts to meet the application requirement. As a alternate solution, TackSerts shall be a good way to achieve savings in operating cost and improve efficiency in applications. TackSert 21

22 Conclusions and Summary The MI HDTV Interactive Set - Top Box and its remote control are made by Xiaomi Co. in China. Three flat head selftapping screws, one brass insert and a few snap fit joints were found in the device throughout the teardown process. The total fastener quantity is only 20 pieces. All of these fasteners can be manufactured by PEM. Also, the insert can be replaced by PEM engineered TackSert. By replacing the screws the customer can achieve savings through operating cost, improving efficiency in applications and the screws removability will no longer be needed. 22
