2 Country Cabin Assembly Manual revised 3/20/10 Dear Customer, Thank you for your purchase of our Country Cabin. The craftsmanship and detail in this building is unmatched. We are proud to bring this Country Cabin to you from our amish friends and neighbors who build such remarkable products. This manual is designed to simplify the assembly process, however we strongly recommend having an experienced carpenter involved in the project. Please read through the entire manual before starting!! The actual building that was put together for this manual was 8 feet wide and 12 feet deep. This manual can also be used for larger models. It took 2 men, 4 hours, using the air tools shown in the picture, to assemble this cabin. However, it will probably take you a little longer since it will be a new project for you. Take a deep breath and get at it, the satisfaction and enjoyment of this playhouse is only a few hours away. Have Fun!!!!! Remember, it is very important that you have a level site for your building, and that the building floor is perfectly level prior to setting the walls. You have purchased a product that consists of heavy, bulky pieces. With your purchase, you assume full responsibility to have the necessary manpower and/or equipment available to unload the items. You also agree that any damage that happens to the equipment, product, or individuals during the unloading process, or during the entire construction process, is your responsibility, and neither the seller, nor the manufacturer, will be held liable for any such damage. Tools Needed: -screw gun -skill saw -tool bag -impact wrench -tin scissors -caulk and caulk gun -rubber mallet -level -hand saw 3 Air Guns: -1 staple gun for 1-1/4 staples -1 framing gun for 2 nails -1 framing gun for 3 nails -1 roofing gun with 5/8 staples

3 Upon arrival your kit should look like this. Set the kit as close as possible to the assembly location. Step 1: Unpack the Country Cabin and lay parts around floor as shown. Step 2: Open hardware box. Step 3: Butt floor sections together and fasten through plywood strips. Make sure tops of floor joists are flush. Need help? call page 2

4 Step 4: Use staples per strip. Step 5: Place left plywood floor section keeping it flush along outside floor joists. Step 6: Fasten plywood every 8 with staples. Step 7: Repeat steps 5 and 6, for right plywood floor section. Note: It may take more than 1 piece of plywood to finish floor section depending on the size of the building. Need help? call page 3

5 Step 8: Insert tongue and groove boards for porch floor. Follow the nailing pattern of boards already fastened. Step 9: Insert front cedar 1x6. Step 10: Line up 1x6 at corners and fasten with 2 nails. Step 11: Fasten front cedar trim piece underneath 1x6 using 2 nails. Need help? call page 4

6 Step 12: If site hasn t been leveled find highest point and level floor using bricks, block, wolmanized wood or other suitable materials. Step 13: Position left wall keeping 2x4 bottom plate flush with the end of floor, fasten at each end with 3 nails. Step 14: Repeat step 13 on opposite wall. Need help? call page 5

7 Step 15: Slide back wall between end walls. Step 16: Nail end of walls into floor and the top of walls together. Step 17: Set front wall. Step 18: Push front wall tight against side walls. Need help? call page 6

8 Step 19: Nail front and side walls together, and nail front wall into floor. Note: Do not nail 2x4 at door opening into the floor. Step 20: Nail wall sections together and also nail wall bottom plate into floor every 8 around the entire building. Step 21: Nail siding along bottom and up and down cabin corners using 2 galvanized nails. Wall sections are now complete. Need help? call page 7

9 Step 22: Set left side porch railing against wall. Keep siding at the top of railing flush. Railing post at bottom should be 1 from edge of floor. Step 23: Nail bottom 2x4 of the railing into floor. Step 24: Repeat steps 22 and 23 for opposite porch railing. Step 25: Remove temporary 2x4 brace from each side of the front railing section. 10 Step 26: Set front railing between side railing sections. Nail into floor keeping corners tight. Step 27: Push the top in tight against the side rail section and nail into the top plate. Step 28: Center corner braces on 4x4 posts and fasten with 2-1/2 screws. Need help? call page 9

11 Step 29: Center railing on 4x4 post and fasten railing into post using 2-1/2 screws. Porch railing sections now complete. Step 30: Lift loft section and slide above porch in between siding sections. Need help? call page 10

12 Step 31: Slide loft floor towards back of cabin until bottom plate is against top of front railing panel. Step 32: Adjust loft until 1x6 ceiling boards fit down inside porch rails. Step 33: Nail through the top plate of railing. Need help? call page 11

13 Step 34: Go inside cabin and nail up into the loft floor. Step 35: Lay all roof structure pieces (gable ends and rafters) on top of walls and loft. Step 36: Set left gable. Need help? call page 12

14 Step 37: Keep the end of gable flush with end of wall. Step 38: Make sure groove from the gable siding piece fits over tongue on wall siding piece. Note: There is a trim piece that will cover this splice in a later step. Step 39: Fasten gable end to the wall using 3 nails. Step 40: Set opposite gable end by repeating steps Need help? call page 13

15 Step 41: Align rafters directly above 2x4 floor joist and toenail into loft floor. Step 42: Align rafters with marks on back side of cabin and toe-nail into top of back wall. Step 43: Measure total width of cabin at front and back. Adjust gable ends to make measurement the same at both ends. Cut the 1x6 facia to fit from outside edge to outside edge. Step 44: Place facia keeping it 1/8 down from top edge of rafters. Need help? call page 14

16 Step 45: Nail facia into rafters keeping it flush at both ends. Step 46: Install facia and soffit on back side of cabin repeating steps Step 47: Before installing plywood pieces for roof note that each piece has been marked and cut for a specific location. Need help? call page 15

17 Step 48: Begin sheeting roof on the back side of cabin by installing large plywood piece. Note: You may need to trim plywood edge with a skil saw. Step 49: Keep plywood centered on rafter and flush at the end. Fasten at ends using staples. Step 50: Finish bottom plywood row with next piece and continue sheeting back of roof until done. Step 51: Begin front section with big plywood piece. Need help? call page 16

18 Step 52: Continue installing plywood sections until roof is finished. Note: Fasten plywood every 8 using staples. Step 53: Staple drip edge around entire building, overlapping joints 1/4 inch. Cut with tin snips. Step 54: Install shingles as shown on directions of shingle pack, using roofing gun. Need help? call page 17

19 Step 55: Use hand saw to cut out 3 2x4 s in doorways. Step 56: Set door tight against right side and top of frame. Let door slide down 1/4 from top of frame and fasten with 9 black screws (these screws are located at the bottom of the hardware box. Step 57: Slide inside latch handle through hole as shown, fasten into door frame using black screws. Need help? call page 18

20 Step 58: Fit front handle over back piece and fasten handle to door. Angle 2-3 in. screws away from edge of door and run screws into door as shown. Step 59: Line up small latch with bolt and fasten. Step 60: Repeat steps for front door. Step 61: Fasten 1-1/2 cedar trim pieces on inside of loft ceiling using 2 nails. Need help? call page 19

21 Step 62: Measure length needed for outside trim piece, cut and fasten. Keep trim piece centered on gap between gable and wall siding pieces. Step 63: To find length needed for corner trim measure from bottom of soffit to bottom of building. Cut trim accordingly and fasten to back corners as shown. Step 64: Cut side trim piece and apply to both sides of building as shown. Need help? call page 20

22 Step 65: Caulk corner where porch and front wall meet along the entire width of building, using a clear silicone caulk. Step 66: If desired sand all skin contact areas such as railing, posts, etc. Step 67: Place railing on top of vertical 2x4 on left side of loft. Step 68: Fasten railing to vertical 2x4 keeping railing tight against wall. Need help? call page 21

23 Step 69: Use a square to plum far right spindle and fasten into floor with a screw. Space spindles 2-7/8 apart and fasten into loft. Step 70: Place end railing 2x2 and square at top and bottom before fastening. Place railing stability piece above end 2x2 and fasten into rafters. Step 71: Place top step of ladder tight against wall and loft and flush with bottom of top plate 2x4. Fasten the ladder top rung into the wall and loft. Step 72: To install window keep window tight against hinge side and leave a 1/8 gap at the top. Fasten through hinges. Align latch block and fasten. Need help? call page 22

24 Note: Windows to right of loft ladder and to the right of front door should hinge to the right. Window to the left of front door should hinge to the left. Step 73: Peel blue protective film from windows. Step 74: Fasten yellow handles using 2 lag bolts as shown. Your Country Cabin is now complete!!! Need help? call page 23
