BEN'S COUNTRY WOODSHOP SMALL MISSION TABLE Version 2 Cutting & Drilling Cut 2 top rails out of 1 x 3s. Each will be 8 1/2 long. Drill 1 pocket hole on the inside bottom center. This will connect the center stile. Drill 2 pocket holes on each inside end. These will connect to the outside stiles. Drill 2 pocket holes on the top inside edge. These will connect the top. Cut 2 bottom rails out of 1 x 3s. Each will be 8 1/2 long. Drill 1 pocket hole on the inside top center. This will connect the center stile. Drill 2 pocket holes on each inside end. These will connect to the outside stiles. Cut 4 leg stiles 24 long and 1 1/2 wide. Cut 2 center stiles 14 long and 1 1/2 wide. There will be no pocket holes drilled in these pieces. Page 1 of 6
Cut 2 top aprons out of the 1x3s. These boards will be 10 wide. Drill two pocket holes to connect the apron to the table top. Drill 2 pocket holes on each end to connect the apron to the legs of the side frame. Cut 2 bottom aprons out of the 1x3s. These boards will be 10 wide. Drill 2 pocket holes on each end to connect the apron to the legs of the side frame. If you wish to make the shape at the bottom of the 4 apron pieces, now is the time to do that. I started the curve 2 from each end, so as not to conflict with the pocket holes on the end. I extended it only 1 high because the piece is not very high. There is no right or wrong as to the curve, except that all 4 aprons must have the identical curve. To make them the same, draw and cut the curve on one apron. Use that piece as a pattern for the other 3 pieces. Page 2 of 6
Cut 1 bottom shelf from the 1x12. It will be a 10 square. Drill 2 pocket holes on each side. The shelf will be screwed to the bottom rails and the bottom aprons. If you are ok with the 13 by 11 1/2 table top, cut that from a 1 x 12. If you want a larger table top, that will overhang on all 4 sides of your table, cut a 13 by 13 top from a solid pine panel. There are no pocket holes in the top. Page 3 of 6
BEN'S COUNTRY WOODSHOP SMALL MISSION TABLE Version 2 Assembly Start the assembly by connecting the top rail to the 2 outside stiles. Then connect the center stile to the top rail. Add the bottom rail, connecting it to the center stile and the 2 outside stiles. The side frame for your mission style table is complete. Now repeat the process to assemble the other side frame. Lay one of the side frames on a flat surface, and align the bottom apron so that it is the exact same height as the top of the bottom rail. Clamp the apron in place; double-check for square; and drive the pocket hole screws. Align the top apron so that it is flush with the top of the side frame. Clamp the apron in place; double-check for square; and drive the pocket hole screws. Repeat the process on the other side of the side frame.
With your side frame still on a flat surface, lay your 10 square shelf between the two bottom aprons so that it is level with the aprons as well as the bottom rail. Clamp the shelf in place; double-check for square; and drive the pocket hole screws into the side frame. Flip the table so that one of apron sides is down. Clamp the shelf in place; double-check for square; and drive the pocket hole screws into the bottom apron. Flip and connect the other apron. Lay your second side frame on the flat surface. Align the aprons with the top rail and the bottom shelf with the bottom rail. Clamp the shelf and the aprons in place; double-check for square; and drive the pocket hole screws into the side frame.
Your last step is to connect the top of your table Put your table top on a flat surface. Align the corners of your table with the marks along the underside of your table top. When all is square, drive the pocket screws from the top rails and the top aprons into your table top. Congratulations! Your Mission Table is now complete. Page 6 of 6
