18 1. Framing window sill must be sloped min of ½ from front to back 2. Exterior Sheathing to be 1/8 short on framing members on all four sides of windows 3. Install builder approved house wrap on the bottom sill a. 18 wide `strip x width of window plus 28 (12 to 14 overhang on each side) b. Overlap 1 ½ into the window sill, cutting small slit in house wrap to lay on sill. i. Staple 1 from edge on all corners 5. Install builder approved house wrap on window legs a. Legs= Wall thickness + 12 to 14 width by Length of Window +18 (4 overhang on top and 14 overhang on bottom) i. House Wrap starts flush with inside of framed wall ii. Staple 1 from edge on all corners iii.cut arch shape in both legs on bottoms to expose flex tape 4. Install Flex wrap on bottom sill a. Thickness of exterior wall determines width of flex i. 2x4---use 6 flex ii. 2x6---use 9 flex b. Length of tape= width of window + 12 (6 overlap up each window leg) c. Leave ½ to ¾ overhang on the interior side of the framed window sill i. This will be bent up by drywall and trim contractor at later time d. Two men are to install the flex i. One on inside of home- One on outside to ensure there is no buckling in the flex tape 6. Install Window a. Set Window shims minimum of 3 from each corner of window sill i. Window shims must be composite material b. Apply a continuous bead of high grade silicone around top & 2 legs of window flange c. Nail window flange per Manufacturers Recommendations on top and 2 legs d.do NOT caulk or nail bottom flange on single windows i. For Double windows, put 1 nail, a minimum of 6 on each side from the window mull ii. For Triple Windows, follow same procedure WINDOW DETAILS 7. Installation of Exterior Veneer a. (refer to details) 8. Installation of Drywall Contractor must wrap overlap in Flex tape UP- not tucking it under drywall that is install under windows 9. Installation of Trim a. Cut and Install Window sill 1st i. Do NOT install nails through sill b. Cut and install legs i. Legs are acting as nails to hold down sill c. Cut and install head d. Cut and install casing under sill i. Secure Window by nailing through sill INTO casing below 10. NO nails through apron in any other spot D-1
