2 as Manor Place, comprised of 684 dwellings in 12 blocks. Attached to the rear of the dwellings, arranged round four yards, were 106 workshops. The estate s shops were located at the entrances to the workshop yards. The buildings on the estate which survived the Luftwaffe s bombs during the Blitz bombing raids of World War II were bought by the local government in Many had became ran down and demolished. By the mid 1980 s some of the flats had been occupied by squatters. The local government wanted to demolish what was left of the estate and arranged for evictions with the help of the police. Many were arrested for refusing to leave the flats they had made home. The estate was saved after a long political battle and campaigning by both Pullens tenants and squatters. brief history The Pullens Estate was built by James Pullen, a local builder, who acquired the land and developed it over a 15-year period from 1886 to The first block of 16 flats was built on Penton Place. The residential buildings are four storeys in height, and each unit is three bays wide with an ornate central entrance to a common stairwell. The ranges vary from three to twelve units in length. They are faced with yellow stock brick, the front being enriched with the use of decorative terracotta arches to the door and window openings. The roofs are flat, providing amenity space for the residents. The Pullens Estate Conservation Area was designated on 19 April 2005 under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 following consultation with local residents, ward councillors and the local housing office. The five remaining streets now sit alongside new build apartments erected by private developers. The flats are occupied today by a mixture of local authority tenants and private owners but the local authority however retains the freehold to the estate. The Pullens Yards still provide for specialised small businesses.

4 THE REPAIR CARE SYSTEM - HOW IT WORKS... The Repair Care System is a sustainable method of repairing windows and external timber without the need to gain access. It is a quality approved system with a 10 year guarantee which also extends the life of the paint cycle from 5 to 7 years. The Repair Care Draught-Proofing System With decades of use, periodically the traditional sliding sash windows require repairs, general care and maintenance. Dry Flex system is based on two component expoxy resin which overcome many of the problems associated with the conventional epoxies. The characteristics of Dry Flex RP are just like wood. It s flexible, has excellent adhesion to wood and can be planed, sawn, drilled, routed, nailed and screwed like wood. It allows the original character of the traditional windows to be retained and can be painted with all types of solvent and water based paints and wood stain. It has a proven record for exterior durability. Repair Care Dry seal The Repair Care Dry Seal is a durable alternative to Linseed Oil Putty. Linseed oil putty is widely used for glazing windows and doors. The putty is inherently brittle and generally shrinks away from the glass. The breakdown of putty causes early breakdown of paints and is mainly responsible for open joints and in situ wood decay due to moisture ingress. The Repair Care Dry Seal is an elastic glazing sealant which can be used for puttied windows, bead glazed windows and for perimeter sealing. The Dry Seal is paintable with opaque and translucent wood finishes and is extremely effective against moisture ingress. In the event of the breakage of glass, Dry Seal is easier to renew compared to the removal/renewal of hardened linseed oil putty. The use of Dry Seal instead of linseed oil putty can help to achieve longer paint durability and contributes towards the prevention of insitu wood decay.

6 The Simplex Easy Clean System The Easy Clean System, sometimes referred to as the simplex system, is a very simple way of allowing access to the outside of your sash windows. It is used on upper levels of a property to allow for window cleaning and general maintenance. It is not generally used on ground floors where the window can be accessed from the outside. It consists of 4 different fittings, a cord clutch, a cord plug, a sash fastener and the slotted hinges. The fittings allow you to open the bottom sash like a door, making maintenance and cleaning straightforward. 7 Aftercare Tips All hardwood should be cleaned with clean warm water and left to dry naturally. Vegetation, including potted plants, should be kept away from the woodwork. Any build up of moss, dirt etc should not be allowed to sit on the woodwork for any length of time as this can cause the wood to rot. We DO NOT recommend solvent or abrasive products to be used, these will affect your guarantee. In the event of stubborn stains then a soap or water based cleaner should be applied. Any type of glass cleaner is suitable To keep your locks and adjustments in shape, clean and lightly oil or spray them with a lubricant like WD40 twice a year into all moving parts where metal contact occurs around your doors and windows. This will help them to operate smoothly. Sash windows should always be opened gently and not forced upwards to avoid the lead weights becoming tangled or jammed within the box frame.
