The instructions are split into three sections: USTOM SZNG, PGE 3, Recess nstallation, Page 5, and Surface nstallation, PGE 10. etermine which you need before starting. The Milano is available using different size and styled -Screen assettes. The illustrations shown in these instructions are intended for instructional use. Please note that all deductions should be made from the original net opening dimensions. 3 Milano MM installton instructions PGE 3 USTOM SZNG USTOM SZNG 1 utting the assette To custom size the already partially assembled -Screen assette ssembly, take the height of the net screen opening and subtract 3/8 (9.5mm), this will become your overall cut dimension. This deduction provides an allowance for the S-assette End ap that you will install in STEP 4. Now measuring from the outside of the one already installed S-assette End ap mark the place where you will cut the -Screen assette ssembly. Firmly hold the -Screen assette ssembly (with Pull ar) and cut to size (including the screen fabric). Hold upright and tap away the metal shavings. Now just the Pull ar of the -Screen assette ssembly needs to be trimmed down a little more. Slide the Pull ar a few inches away from the screen fabric, measure and then cut so that the aluminum Pull ar (without plastic end caps) is a total of 2-3/16 (56mm) shorter than the height of the net screen opening. rimp 2 utting the Top, bottom and side magnetic profiles Using the original Net Opening imension as the starting point cut these profiles to the following lengths: -ottom Guide Rail: (W) - 2-5/16" = -Top Guide Rail: (W) - 2-5/16" = -Side Rail with Magnet (H) - 0" = fter cutting the -ottom Guide Rail and -Top Guide Rail, use pliers to crimp the M-nsect Pile/Weather Strip in place [see picture at left] so that it does not move in the holding channels. 3 nsect Pile / Weather Strip Recess Mount pplications : The M-nsect Pile/Weather Strip is already installed in the channel located on the rear of the assette. Surface Mount pplications : Remove the M-nsect Pile/Weatherstrip from the channel at the top back of the -Screen assette. Then slide the runners on the bottom of two (2) L-Surface Mount lips into the same channel. Note: the position of the L-Surface Mount lips can be adjusted at any time once installed in the channel. 4 Milano MM installton instructions PGE 4 USTOM SZNG 4 End ap ssembly ONT. The Q-rake, R-ushing and S-assette End ap come pre-assembled. Q R S Make sure that the long tooth on the R-ushing and Q-rake line up with one of the slots inside the Screen Tube. oth the Q-rake and the R-ushing must be fully inserted into the Screen Tube before the S-End ap can be properly seated. Slip the R-ushing down the coiled spring to the Q-rake. On the open end of the -Screen assette, insert the Q-rake with R-ushing into the center of the Screen Tube, aligning the long tooth on both as noted above. Next, match up the large pin on the top of the S-End ap to the corresponding hole at the top of the -Screen assette Housing. Tap evenly with a soft mallet until the assembly fits snugly. 5 Pull ar End aps The -Screen assette ssembly can be installed on either side of the door. The side that you select will determine if you install the right or left handed version of the ottom and Top Pull ar End aps [3.1]. Note: nstall the shorter L-Pull ar ottom End ap at the bottom and the taller M-Pull ar Top End ap at the top (see step 3 of Recess nstallation or Surface nstallation section). Each End ap will have either the letter or R or L to indicate right or left. nsert the M-Top Pull ar End ap and L-ottom Pull ar End ap into the ends of the Pull ar and tap in place using a soft mallet.

7 Milano MM installton instructions PGE 7 REESS NSTLLTON For a left-handed install, flip the Screen assette and replace the End aps with the left-oriented End aps from the Screen ccessory Kit The Screen assette The -Screen assette ssembly can be installed on either the right or left side of the door jamb. The Screen assette comes from the factory for right-handed installation. For a left-handed install, flip the Screen assette vertically, remove and discard the right-oriented Pull ar End aps and replace with the left-oriented Pull ar End aps [3.1] from the Screen ccessory Kit. Remember, for either orientation, the taller Pull ar End ap must always be at the top, and the rounded side of the assette should always face outwards. nstalling the assette Using the -#8 x 1"(25mm) Phillips Panhead Screws, install the H-Recess Mounting lips 16" from the top and bottom of the door opening [4.1]. Note that the front of -ottom Guide Rail has indented grooves and the the front flange of the -Side Rail is shorter than the back Position Side RL WTH MGNET ngle the -Side Rail with Magnet behind and over the -ottom Guide Rail, so that the -ottom Rail is positioned inside the flanges of the -Side Rail [7.1]. -Top Guide Rail also positions inside the flanges of the -Side Rail [7.2]. On the recess install, the back of the -Side Rail fits flush against the inside of the door jamb as shown, with the tallest flange of the Side Rail on the inside F E Profiles of ottom Guide Rail and Threshold Transition optional threshold transition for recess mount only (ordered separately) efore screwing down the -ottom Guide Rail, you may choose to install the E-Threshold Transition (with F-Threshold Transition End aps) [6.3]. This part is optional; it protects the bottom guide rail and it is also a nice aesthetic feature. The Transition may be installed toward the interior or exterior of the home. To install, cut the Transition to the door opening width, less 4-1/4 (114mm) for Single oor Screens. nsert the F-Threshold Transition End aps, slide the lip of the Transition under the ottom Guide Rail and secure both profiles with three (3) -#8 x 1 (25mm) Phillips Panhead Screws. Position screws 6 inches in from each end and center the middle one.

9 Milano MM installton instructions PGE 9 REESS NSTLLTON 7 Secure The Rails With Screws Secure the -ottom Guide Rail, -Top Guide Rail and -Side Rail with Magnet with three -#8 x 1"(25mm) Phillips Panhead Screws each. Position screws 6 inches (150mm) in from each end and center the middle one. When installing the ottom and Top Guide Rail, use the convenient Pile Opener included with this kit, to temporarily separate the two insect piles. This will make for easier viewing and installation of the screws. Slide two -N-Surface Mount lips into the groove on the rear of the Screen assette before proceeding [4.1]. Position the Screen assette, and use - #8 x 1"(25mm) Phillips Panhead Screws to secure N-Surface Mount lips to the opening [4.2]. 4.2 Surface nstallation

13 Milano MM installton instructions PGE 13 SURFE NSTLLTON nstalling the Top and ottom Guide Rails Slide the -ottom Guide Rail fully onto the tab on the -Screen assette End ap [5.1]. NOTE: The ottom and Top Rails each have decorative grooves on one side. This groove should face the outside [5.2]. Slide the -Top Guide Rail onto the tab of the -Screen assette ssembly [5.3] EORTVE GROOVES Slide -ottom Guide Rail inside the flanges of -Side Rail. Note that the front of -ottom Guide Rail has indented grooves and the the front flange of the -Side Rail is shorter than the back Position Side RL WTH MGNET ngle the -Side Rail with Magnet behind and over the -ottom Guide Rail, so that the -ottom Rail is positioned inside the flanges of the -Side Rail [6.1]. -Top Guide Rail also positions inside the flanges of the -Side Rail [6.2]. On the surface installation, the taller flange of the -Side Rail is set flush to the outside of the door jamb. 6.2

14 O O Milano MM installton instructions PGE 14 SURFE NSTLLTON 7 Secure The Rails With Screws -Top Guide Rail Using the ecorative Trim Groove [7.2] as a guide, staying above the glide platforms inside the Top Guide Rail, drill 1/8 (3mm) holes at a location 4 in from each end and through both sides of the Top Guide Rail. rill 2 holes for single screens. Secure the Top Guide Rail to the entry with 0-1/8 (3mm) x 1-3/4 (44mm) Surface Mount Screws. o not overtighten. -ottom Guide Rail Using the ecorative Trim Groove [5.2 - PGE 13] as a guide (staying underneath the glide platforms inside the ottom Guide Rail), drill 1/8 (3mm) holes evenly spaced through both sides of the ottom Guide Rail. rill 3 holes for single screens. Secure the rail to the entry with O-1/8 (3mm) x 1-3/4 (44mm) Surface Mount Screws. o not over tighten. f the -ottom Guide Rail will be positioned where it is susceptible to being stepped upon, kicked or otherwise bent, then add structural support for the - ottom Guide Rail to rest upon. 1/2 x 1/2 L shaped aluminum extrusion is recommended. This or another support material may be purchased at a local hardware store. O O Pile Opener O G 8 djusting the Handles djust the G-Handle heights by loosening the llen-head Set Screw, move the G-Handle as desired and retighten screw.

15 Milano MM installton instructions PGE 15 TROULE SHOOTNG GUE THE OOR S OTTOM THRESHOL SLOPES STEEPLY: The ottom Guide will not work properly installed at an angle. Use wedge shims to adjust the ottom Guide until level. SREEN S TORN OR MGE: Replace the mesh using a Screen Refill Kit. THE LOSNG MGNETS O NOT FULLY SEL OR THE SREEN OES NOT LOSE EVENLY: lean the Magnets using mild soap and water. clean any debris from inside the ottom Guide. ebris can interfere with closing and smooth screen operation. open the screen and check that the magnet that is located in the Pull ar aligns with the magnetic strip in the -ual-mount Side Rail with Magnet. To alter the alignment remove the M-#8 x 1 (25mm) Phillips Panhead Screws for the center of the -ual-mount Side Rail. Flex the center of the -ual-mount Side Rail 1/8" - 3/16" (3mm-4mm) toward the outside and then reinstall the M-#8 x 1 (25mm) Phillips Panhead Screws.? NSTLLTON QUESTONS? MSSNG PRTS? 16 NSTLLTON ULLETN for THRESHOL/SLL PPLTONS There are multitudes of door threshold/sill designs and these must be considered before you install your Retractable Screen. For a proper installation it is important to have or create a level and stable surface for mounting the bottom guide of the retractable screen. efore beginning, identify the exact location where the Screen assette will be installed, because this will influence the position of the ottom Guide. The following are some of the more typical threshold/sill designs and solutions for dealing with these instances. Traditional Retractable Screen with Smooth Fabric Flat Threshold 1 flat threshold/sill for traditional screen nstructions: lean the surface and then mount the Retractable Screen ottom Guide directly to the threshold/sill. Platform Transition (or similar) Flat Threshold with Screen Track 1 flat threshold/sill with screen track nstructions: To span over an existing screen track and make a flat and stable surface, install material such as the Genius Platform Transition [Part #: X-X]. 18 NSTLLTON ULLETN for THRESHOL/SLL PPLTONS 3 Existing oor Track Genius ottom Guide Shims Existing oor Screen Track E1 sliding patio door Thresholds with SREEN TRK nstructions: Many Patio oors have a Screen Track [E1] that will now be obsolete with the installation of your Retractable Screen. For all Genius smooth screen fabric systems (non-pleated screens), there are instances where resting the ottom Guide above the existing screen track is the desirable method. f needed, add shims to create a stable, level surface for mounting the Guide. E2 f however, the existing door s Screen Track is removable, take out the Track by hand or with any type of pliers [E2]. Existing oor Track Genius ottom Guide Shims E3 Then add non-degradable shim material (plastic, nylon or similar) [E3] so that you create a flat and stable surface for the Retractable Screen ottom Guide Rail. 19 NSTLLTON ULLETN for TOP & SE GUE RLS 4 NSTLLTON ULLETN for TOP N SE GUE RLS Existing Side oor Frame Shims to Flatten nstall Surface 1 EXSTNG SE RL PREPRTON with SHMS nstructions: Since there are multitudes of door master frame designs, all surfaces where you will be mounting the screen must be considered before you install the retractable screen. n the case of the side rails, again, existing door frames may have multiple channels, or flanges of different heights, that make for a surface too uneven for efficient installation of your new screen. n this case, you will need to shim this channel or channels to the height of the tallest flange in the existing side door frame. t is recommended you order or find shims made of a non-degradable material (plastic or nylon, for example) that can be fitted into the channel(s), of sufficient length to assure a flat and vertically plumb surface for the new side rail.
