2 Measuring with face stop VP gear testing instruments feature a face stop. Finding the reversal point is no longer required. Specimens with a usable end face are placed on the table of the instrument and measured at right-angles without reversal point. The measuring stilts of the VP instruments can be rotated and moved. They are universally suitable for both internal and external profiles with small or large diameters. A setting plug or ring is needed for calibration. The spline or gear profile has to equal the specimen. Features: The measuring results are not reliant on the operator. The measuring results can be processed electronically. Measurements are always carried out at right-angles to the workpiece axis. Different sizes, types and diameters of gears and splines can be measured with one instrument. Measuring helical profiles is possible. Wear of the measuring inserts can be compensated for through calibrations with a setting master. Measurement is possible in any number of planes (VPE only). The instruments can be connected to a computer. 2

4 Gear testing instrument VPO Measured value display Radial measuring points Go gauging Axial measuring planes Inspection process oder The VPO is a simple gear testing machine to determine the diametrical size over two balls in one specific measuring plane. It can be refitted within a few minutes and is particularly suitable for quick measurements of small pieces up to a PCD of 120 mm. The balls are mounted on a movable and a fixed carriage. To change the workpiece, the movable carriage can be retracted using the lever on the front. To display the measuring results both a dial indicator or a digital probe can be used. It can be refitted within a few minutes and is mainly used for quick measurements of pieces with a PCD up to approx. 220 mm. Crowning and tapering can also be measured thanks to the height-adjustable plane. Connecting two probes, the measuring results can be recorded on a PC and allows a dynamic analysis. It is the result of the consistent enhancement of the gear testing machines VPO/VPE. It is especially suitable for large and heavy workpieces. Besides precision and accuracy, importance was attached to functionality, appearance, a sophisticated design and optimal ergonomics. The VPS is easy in use and a very stable tabletop machine for the shop-floor use. Like the gear testing machines VPO and VPE, it is used for size inspections of internal and external profiles both for helical and spur gearing. 7 The VPS does no longer have a plane travel. For longitudinal dynamic measurements it has two stilts that can be moved vertically (75 mm). The workpiece is sitting on a fixed steel plate. Both stilts have fixtures for measuring balls or rolls M2.5 or M4 and Ø3.5. Vertical stilt movement Optionally it is possible to mount the workpiece for size inspections in a floating manner on air bearings. That ensures the double flank contact during the measurement, especially for heavy pieces. Air bearing Upgrade kit X2 axis The flexible carriage is equipped with a reading head, which can establish the position on the glass scale. The true measured size of the workpiece is calculated from the value of the probe X1 and the value of the scale X2. That way it is possible to measure workpieces of different sizes with only one setting master. A flexible setting master can also be used to calibrate various measuring ball sizes. They are locked when the lever is turned anti-clockwise Lever for the vertical movement of the stilts during the longitudinal dynamic measurement. 9 The Software L-Dyn VPE and VPS instruments can be upgraded for dynamic measurements. The travel of the table or the measuring stilts is assigned to one measurement reading and recorded. The workpiece can therefore be measured in several planes and the values evaluated on a PC. The measurement enables the determination of the dimension over balls and the evaluation of the following values: When a measurement is complete the values are marked in colour: Green: Measured value within accepted tolerance Yellow: Measured value within intervention limits Red: Measured value outside accepted tolerance tapering crowning roundness Interfaces for your database and QS-Stat are available. Furthermore, the data can be exported to Excel. It is therefore possible to evaluate several data sets. When a workpiece is measured before and after hardening, the quenching distortion can also be determined. 9
