Shop Drawings: Indicate profiles, sizes, connection attachments, anchorage, size and type of fasteners, and accessories. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 RAILINGS - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. Design, fabricate, and test railing assemblies in accordance with the most stringent requirements of ASTM E 985 and applicable local code. B. Design railing assembly, wall rails, and attachments to resist lateral force of 75 lbs (333 N) at any point without damage or permanent set. Test in accordance with ASTM E 935. C. Allow for expansion and contraction of members and building movement without damage to connections or members. D. Dimensions: See drawings for configurations and heights. E. Provide anchors and other components as required to attach to structure, made of same materials as railing components unless otherwise indicated; where exposed fasteners are unavoidable provide flush countersunk fasteners. Provide welding fittings to join lengths, seal open ends, and conceal exposed mounting bolts and nuts, including but not limited to elbows, T-shapes, splice connectors, flanges, escutcheons, and wall brackets STEEL RAILING SYSTEM A. Steel Tube: ASTM A 500, Grade B cold-formed structural tubing. B. Steel Pipe: ASTM A 53/A 53M, Grade B Schedule 40, black finish. C. Welding Fittings: Factory- or shop-welded from matching pipe or tube; seams continuously welded; joints and seams ground smooth FABRICATION A. Accurately form components to suit specific project conditions and for proper connection to building structure. B. Fit and shop assemble components in largest practical sizes for delivery to site. C. Fabricate components with joints tightly fitted and secured. Provide spigots and sleeves to accommodate site assembly and installation. D. Welded Joints: 1. Exterior Components: Continuously seal joined pieces by intermittent welds and plastic filler. Drill condensate drainage holes at bottom of members at locations that will not encourage water intrusion. 2. Interior Components: Continuously seal joined pieces by intermittent welds and plastic filler. 3. Grind exposed joints flush and smooth with adjacent finish surface. Make exposed joints butt tight, flush, and hairline. Ease exposed edges to small uniform radius. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. 5 2.01 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. Dimension Lumber: Comply with PS 20 and requirements of specified grading agencies. 1. Species: Spruce-Pine-Fir (South), unless otherwise indicated. 2. If no species is specified, provide any species graded by the agency specified; if no grading agency is specified, provide lumber graded by any grading agency meeting the specified requirements. 3. Grading Agency: Any grading agency whose rules are approved by the Board of Review, American Lumber Standard Committee ( and who provides grading service for the species and grade specified; provide lumber stamped with grade mark unless otherwise indicated. B. Lumber fabricated from old growth timber is not permitted DIMENSION LUMBER FOR CONCEALED APPLICATIONS A. Grading Agency: Western Wood Products Association (WWPA). B. Communications and Electrical Room Mounting Boards: PS 1 A-D plywood, or medium density fiberboard; 3/4 inch (19 mm) thick; flame spread index of 25 or less, smoke developed index of 450 or less, when tested in accordance with ASTM E ACCESSORIES A. Fasteners and Anchors: 1. Metal and Finish: Hot-dipped galvanized steel per ASTM A 153/A 153M for high humidity and preservative-treated wood locations, unfinished steel elsewhere. B. Subfloor Glue: Waterproof, water base, air cure type, cartridge dispensed FACTORY WOOD TREATMENT A. Treated Lumber and Plywood: Comply with requirements of AWPA Ul - Use Category System for wood treatments determined by use categories, expected service conditions, and specific applications. 1. Fire-Retardant Treated Wood: Mark each piece of wood with producer's stamp indicating compliance with specified requirements. B. Fire Retardant Treatment: PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION - GENERAL A. Select material sizes to minimize waste. B. Reuse scrap to the greatest extent possible; clearly separate scrap for use on site as accessory components, including: shims, bracing, and blocking. C. Where treated wood is used on interior, provide temporary ventilation during and immediately after installation sufficient to remove indoor air contaminants BLOCKING, NAILERS, AND SUPPORTS A. Provide framing and blocking members as indicated or as required to support finishes, fixtures, specialty items, and trim. B. In metal stud walls, provide continuous blocking around door and window openings for anchorage of frames, securely attached to stud framing. ROUGH CARPENTRY

In walls, provide blocking attached to studs as backing and support for wall-mounted items, unless item can be securely fastened to two or more studs or other method of support is explicitly indicated. D. Where ceiling-mounting is indicated, provide blocking and supplementary supports above ceiling, unless other method of support is explicitly indicated. E. Specifically, provide the following non-structural framing and blocking: 1. Cabinets and shelf supports. 2. Wall brackets. 3. Handrails. 4. Grab bars. 5. Towel and bath accessories. 6. Wall-mounted door stops. 7. Chalkboards and marker boards. 8. Wall paneling and trim. 9. Joints of rigid wall coverings that occur between studs. 10. Other locations, as noted on drawings INSTALLATION OF CONSTRUCTION PANELS A. Communications and Electrical Room Mounting Boards: Secure with screws to studs with edges over firm bearing; space fasteners at maximum 24 inches (610 mm) on center on all edges and into studs in field of board CLEANING 1. Where boards are indicated as full floor-to-ceiling height, install with long edge of board parallel to studs. 2. Install adjacent boards without gaps. A. Do not leave any wood, shavings, sawdust, etc. on the ground or buried in fill. B. Prevent sawdust and wood shavings from entering the storm drainage system. END OF SECTION ROUGH CARPENTRY

Coordinate the work with plumbing rough-in, electrical rough-in, and installation of associated and adjacent components DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Protect work from moisture damage. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS - GENERAL A. Unless otherwise indicated provide products of quality specified by AWI Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated for Premium grade. 9 A. Softwood Lumber: White Pine, Poplar, or Lodgepole Pine species, maximum moisture content of 6 percent; with vertical grain, ACCESSORIES A. Glass: Type as specified in Section B. Wood Filler: Solvent base, tinted to match surface finish color HARDWARE A. Hardware: Comply with BHMA Al B. Sliding Glass Window: Aluminum or stainless steel track top and bottom. Provide ball bearing rollers for sliding components. Provide keyed cam lock and finger pulls FABRICATION A. Shop assemble work for delivery to site, permitting passage through building openings. B. When necessary to cut and fit on site, provide materials with ample allowance for cutting. Provide trim for scribing and site cutting SHOP FINISHING A. Sand work smooth and set exposed nails and screws. B. Apply wood filler in exposed nail and screw indentations. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Verify adequacy of backing and support framing INSTALLATION A. Set and secure materials and components in place, plumb and level. B. Carefully scribe work abutting other components, with maximum gaps of 1/32 inch (1 mm). Do not use additional overlay trim to conceal larger gaps PREPARATION FOR SITE FINISHING A. Set exposed fasteners. Apply wood filler in exposed fastener indentations. Sand work smooth TOLERANCES FINISH CARPENTRY

Samples: Submit actual samples of architectural cabinet construction, minimum 8 inches (200 mm) square, illustrating proposed cabinet substrate and finish. E. Samples: Submit actual sample items of proposed pulls, hinges, shelf standards, and locksets, demonstrating hardware design, quality, and finish QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Perform cabinet construction in accordance with AWI/AWMAC Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Custom quality, unless other quality is indicated for specific items DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Protect units from moisture damage FIELD CONDITIONS A. During and after installation of custom cabinets, maintain temperature and humidity conditions in building spaces at same levels planned for occupancy. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 LUMBER MATERIALS A. Hardwood Lumber: NHLA; Graded in accordance with AWI/AWMAC Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Grade Il/Custom; average moisture content of 5-10 percent; species as follows: 1. Exposed Surfaces: Species Birch, stain to match doors. 2. Semi-Exposed Surfaces: Species Birch. 3. Concealed Surfaces: Species Maple, birch, or fir PANEL MATERIALS A. Veneer Faced Plywood Finish: HPVA HP-1; graded in accordance with AWI/AWMAC Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, core of veneer (wood plies), lumber, or plywood; type of glue recommended for specific application; thickness as required; face veneer as follows: 1. The mail sorter shall be capable of adjustment in one inch increments ACCESSORIES A. Adhesive: Type recommended by AWI/AWMAC to suit application. B. Fasteners: Size and type to suit application. C. Bolts, Nuts, Washers, Lags, Pins, and Screws: Of size and type to suit application; galvanized or chrome-plated finish in concealed locations and stainless steel, or chrome-plated finish in exposed locations. Drawer and Door Pulls: "U" shaped wire pull, steel with satin finish, 4 inch centers ("U" shaped wire pull, steel with satin finish, 100 mm centers). D. All cabinets shall be plastic laminated with melamine interiors, unless otherwise noted or indicated. B. Cabinet Doors and Drawer Fronts: Flush style. C. Drawer Construction Technique: Dovetail joints. D. Assembly: Shop assemble cabinets for delivery to site in units easily handled and to permit passage through building openings. E. 15 F. Plastic Laminate: Apply plastic laminate finish in full uninterrupted sheets consistent with manufactured sizes. Fit corners and joints hairline; secure with concealed fasteners. Slightly bevel arises. Locate counter butt joints minimum 2 feet (600 mm) from sink cut-outs. G. Mechanically fasten back splash to countertops with steel brackets at 16 inches (400 mm) on center. H. Provide cutouts for plumbing fixtures. Verify locations of cutouts from on-site dimensions. Seal cut edges FACTORY FINISHING A. Sand work smooth and set exposed nails and screws. B. On items to receive transparent finishes, use wood filler matching or blending with surrounding surfaces and of types recommended for applied finishes. C. Finish work in accordance with AWI/AWMAC Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Section 1500, As scheduled. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Verify adequacy of backing and support framing. B. Verify location and sizes of utility rough-in associated with work of this section INSTALLATION A. Set and secure custom cabinets in place, assuring that they are rigid, plumb, and level. B. Use fixture attachments in concealed locations for wall mounted components. C. Use concealed joint fasteners to align and secure adjoining cabinet units. D. Secure cabinets to floor using appropriate angles and anchorages. E. Countersink anchorage devices at exposed locations. Conceal with solid wood plugs of species to match surrounding wood; finish flush with surrounding surfaces ADJUSTING A. Adjust installed work. B. 18 1.05 FIELD CONDITIONS A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 COUNTERTOP ASSEMBLIES A. Plastic Laminate Countertops: High pressure decorative laminate sheet bonded to substrate. 1. Laminate Sheet, Unless Otherwise Indicated: NEMA LD 3 Grade HGS, inch (HGS, 1.2 mm) nominal thickness. a. NSF approved for food contact. b. Wear Resistance: In addition to specified grade, comply with NEMA LD 3 High Wear Grade requirements for wear resistance. c. Laminate Core Color: Same as decorative surface. d. Finish: Matte or suede, gloss rating of 5 to 20. e. Surface Color and Pattern: To be selected from manufacturer's full line. f. Solid Surfacing Sheet and Plastic Resin Castings: Complying with ISSFA-2 and NEMA LD 3; acrylic or polyester resin, mineral filler, and pigments; homogenous, non-porous and capable of being worked and repaired using standard woodworking tools; no surface coating; color and pattern consistent throughout thickness. a. Stainless Steel Countertops: ASTM A 666 Type 304 stainless steel sheet; 16 gage, 0.06 inch (1.5 mm) nominal sheet thickness. 1. Finish: 4B satin brushed finish. 2. Exposed Edge Shape: Bullnose with return; 5/8 inch (16 mm) radius, return to face of case. 3. Back and End Splashes: Same material; welded 1/4 inch (6 mm) radius coved joint to countertop; square top edge with 1 inch (25 mm) wide top surface and minimum 1/2 inch (12 mm) turndown; 4. Splash Dimensions: 4 inch (100 mm) high by 1 inch (25 mm) thick, unless otherwise indicated ACCESSORY MATERIALS A. Plywood for Supporting Substrate: PS 1 Exterior Grade, A-C veneer grade, minimum 5-ply; minimum 3/4 inch (19 mm) thick; join lengths using metal splines. B. Adhesives: Chemical resistant waterproof adhesive as recommended by manufacturer of materials being joined. C. Grommets: Color to match counter FABRICATION A. Fabricate tops and splashes in the largest sections practicable, with top surface of joints flush. 1. Join lengths of tops using best method recommended by manufacturer. 2. Prepare all cutouts accurately to size; replace tops having improperly dimensioned or unnecessary cutouts or fixture holes. B. Provide back/end splash wherever counter edge abuts vertical surface unless otherwise indicated. COUNTERTOPS
